I hate to pick on the kid -- because he plays hard and has said all the right things -- but Devin Askew (or the void where he plays) is the primary reason this team sucks.

We can talk about Sarr being a huge gash, Brooks' weak hands and inconsistency, Jackson's foul troubles, BJ Boston being hugely underwhelming , Cal's horrible sub patterns and personnel strategy all/air (triggered!!! for me) etc etc etc... but you need a PG that can make shit 'go' and we basically have poor man's Saul Smith back there running things.

His (+/-) numbers are horrendous, but what really kills this team is his indecisiveness and inability to do 'anything' on the floor. He's simply a vacant body who simply brings the ball up and whips it around. He doesn't really initiate anything, half-heartedly probes. He has zero confidence to make plays and I feel awful for him, whether it's of his own doing or Cal's. I'd be more than fine with him shooting 38' threes or driving the ball into 3-4 people, at least he was making the defense read/react. But it's 4v5 when he's out there now.

He doesn't break anyone down off the dribble, so everyone else plays straight up. The defense rarely has to send help, leaving everyone smothered. For Sarr, the defense can recover the high ball screen because Askew can't (or won't) turn the corner and won't shoot over the top. For Jackson, Askew can't (or won't) straight-line drive his guy so there's few opportunities for lobs. For Boston, Askew still can't (or won't) beat his guy to open up the wing for open jumpers.

Dykes said it several times last night that we don't have a PG that can break anyone down. If you can't get by guy # 1, the defense domino effect doesn't happen and everything is difficult for everyone. Nothing comes easy and everything is a grind.

If your primary ball handler struggles to do anything well and won't make legitimate intentional basketball plays to 1) attack 2) shoot 3) create, he can't (and won't) make his teammates successful. Bless his heart but that's where we're at. And that's with me hating Cal with a fury and doing absolutely nothing to help this team by his gross mismanagement/ego.

:sigh:

100% true. Askew is the typical freshman point that should be getting 8-10 minutes as a backup while figuring out and getting comfortable in the system. Having him running the team and getting 30+ mpg is absurd.

Cal living in his trust tree with yes men and sycophants is what helped get us here. He needs to see BJW out in the open, and not through Twitter or a radio show to understand the frustration isn't limited to the fringe of the fan base. Plus, I want him to feel as embarrassed and pissed as we do, as it truly doesn't seem like he gives a shit right now.

Working out again shorts:

Started my membership 6 weeks ago and got one workout in before covid quarantine for two weeks with the son.

Really getting back into a groove the last 4 weeks though. Averaging a loss of 2 lbs per week on that time, right on my goal.

Didnt lose anything last week, broke the plateau yesterday at weigh in though

Been going really light weight and only using the machines... until this week. Mixed in some dumbells and more weight.

I remember the days working the desk at Versailles Athletic Club (VAC) all the old farts like myself blowing their knee or getting tendinitis in their elbows from trying to pick up where they left off when they come back. Hopefully my tendons continue to hold up.

Switched from the treadmill to the bike this week, been good so far. Still building confidence for the stair mill.

This is the first time in life my schedule has allowed for AM workouts and I'm a huge fan.

A lot of times, firing an assistant coach or two is just window dressing. The head man steps out of the way and lets the hammer drop on the guy behind him. Sometimes the next coach is an improvement, but sometimes not. One thing is certain, though, is it keeps your head coach on high alert that he'd better improve, or it's his ass on the chopping block the next time.

Cal feels NONE of that job pressure, and it's a damn shame. He doesn't even have to pretend to shake up his coaching staff in order to improve. That level of job security is really something.

- I had also tweeted about Askew's age, and had also been corrected by Cricket. Point stands that whatever his age, he wasn't/isn't ready to have the reigns. And Cal should have recognized that and brought in an established PG. Heck, look at what that little grad transfer running things at Michigan right now. 5-11, but had already proven he could score at the D-1 level, and is now averaging 8/5 a game, shooting 47 percent from 3 and with a 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. I know that Sisk already hinted that the Carr kid from Minnesota might be a transfer option, and that's exactly what was needed this year and will be needed next year at the 1. Because has much as I like Hickman, he's not ready either.

- I remembered the game, but instead of watching I got to watch two episodes of "Perry Mason" and two episodes of "The Red Skelton Show" while attempting to keep my mom from getting out of bed and wandering around the house. A much more enjoyable experience than UK basketball, honestly.

- The Schultz/Rhodes due on the UK baseball team seem like a couple of studs. But still....this team is fattening up on cupcakes. Let's see if Mingione can win any SEC series. I know who cares about college baseballsucka, but I've found it a pleasant diversion this year, and have been watching more the past few seasons.

- March 3rd is, I believe, the day when Jim Spanarkel and Dan Bonner crawl out of the caves they've been living in for the past 11 months and start to re-engage with the world.

Askew has potential, just look at him in desperation mode working on instinct. He gets to the rim with relative ease. Completely different player than scared to make a mistake because the lunatic on the sidelines is overmanaging him.

Also has a nice shot, seems like a solid leader, good kid. Stick around a few years and let's see what happens.

We’re an entire year into this pandemic and every single day when I go walk at lunch I see someone try to open the County Clerk’s office and then stand there in complete confusion when they read the multiple signs that say the building is closed.

Now whether you agree with it being closed or not its probably wise to make sure a place is open before making a special trip. ESPECIALLY a government agency.

Biggie Doc randos.....

- nobody has ever sounded fatter when they talk than him. even in casual conversation, the dude is mouthbreathing and gasping for air.

- listened to ready to die in black mike's car on the way to school every single day sophomore year.

- in case you were wondering, The Official Site - COOGI Authentic Sweaters is still in business. cheapest sweater is $400. and don't even try to buy the OG 50 Special Anniversary Release. sold out.

- can't believe, well before the digital age we live in now, how much footage there is of him rapping on the corner. just sitting around with his boys, busting out rhymes. reminds me of bbdk, but sober.

- the REAL "biggie smallz."

Yeah, listening to caller after caller last night on the postgame say stuff like "Cal needs Mitch to give him a wake up call," "I think next year if this is the same, he should go." And Matt just re-explained to each of them. "There's no wake up call. There's no firing an assistant. No. Kentucky can never fire Cal." Like they couldn't wrap their minds around how stupid this contract is.

Cal has no motivation to do anything differently or better except for personal pride, which I'm starting to doubt he has. Actually, if anything he has 50 million dollars of motivation to suck so hard that we actually do pay him to gtfo.

Where's the mailbag SAE mentioned where Tucker implied that Cal wanted to leave? Can't find it anywhere.

yea well Orlando wasn't good with computers so...

He is about to be turned off by 90% of the fanbase if he does jackshit this off season.

Releasing Atkins and letting Green go like most people expect will free up enough cap space to make some moves. I don’t think they need to plug every hole at once, honestly I’d almost rather see the Bengals go all in on the offense this year. Make it fun. You’re not winning the division next year anyway. Build around Burrow, address the defense when you can.

Cal has "been turned off" by a portion of the fanbase. And if his contract wasn't so lucrative, Kyle wonders if he wouldn't "give those folks double-barreled birds on the way out of town this summer."

Healthy, normal stuff from the $9M man.

So we’re speculating on something Kyle Tucker wonders about?

OK

And, for the record, a portion of our fanbase can certainly F off.
