Merry Christmas, dinks.

I checked out hard on Christmas when I was 9 and my dad told me to put the tree up myself if I wanted one and I’ve been pretty meh on it since.

Christmas now with 1, 3, and 5 year olds - holy shit. Total game changer. Today was pretty magical and I actually appreciated having my in-laws over for Christmas Eve and all of Christmas Day because my kids absolutely loved having them here and they kept them distracted for our Moscow mule breaks.

Cheers, GYERO. Some of us grew up to be pretty outstanding adults!

Friend brought over some Stagg last night (she’s a booze rep). She delivered it to a hugely popular bar....

....and they didn’t want it. :joy::joy:

In their defense, that bar does a TON of business, but it’s a very casual beer/courtyard/Biergarten type place, so the “prestige” of having it on the shelf would have been lost on them. Oh well.

They sold it back to her for 70 bucks.

UPDATE - After 3 effing hours (not kidding) a winner was me, but only after mom got home and convinced him I was serious. Little shithead is the most stubborn person I have ever known. It’s actually admirable in a way.

Also, Merry Christmas. I got a lot of booze and FIFA 19.

Bravo. I think some here underestimate the will a young asshole can have.

-Man, that win did wonders for my Christmas weekend. In a great mood the whole time. Not just beating UNC, because that's always great, it's the way it went down. They had just waxed the #1 team and we controlled them basically the entire game. Looked great on both ends of the floor. Finally showed us a brief glimpse of the team we all thought we were getting.

-Couple days rest before the next whirlwind. o_O

-I'm done cooking for large groups for a bit. Shew. Felt like I had run a marathon at the end of yesterday.

-New sound bar for Xmas to make up for TCL's crappy speakers. Major upgrade.

-Over winter starting next week, even with it being mild. Just happy my bball Cats are going to get me through.

-Vegas for conference tourney week is still a long shot but making up ground.

-Brutal story in Lou with that police office killed in the crash. We were just a few minutes behind it.

Love Christmas, but glad it’s over. So much damn work it’s crazy. The garbage mountain of cardboard boxes and wrapping paper in my garage is absolutely staggering. I’m with Clark, Christmas Eve feels like the bigger holiday. Something very warm and magical about it, imo.

My 7 year old has recently become hooked on basketball. Got him a goal for Christmas and he’s spent hours every day out there shooting. Also randomly picked the wizards as his team and John wall as his favorite player. He didn’t even know he went to Kentucky, as Wall had been in the nba for 2 years by the time he was born. I’m more of a DBook guy but I’m glad he picked a former cat, regardless. Got him a Wall tee and jersey for Xmas. Dude was stoked.

Back in the office today. It’s amazing how much work I get done when most people are off.

The week between Christmas and new years is really underrated. Work schedule is typically light, great sports on tv, return the useless stuff you get for Xmas. Got some peppered jelly from my aunt that might be my gift of the year that I’m going to enjoy with some Ritz this weekend. Really looking forward to the Saturday slate of football and watching MY wildcats continue to gel against in state rival Louisville. Happy new year

Leave it to GYERO to be a dickhead about a dude's nostalgia mug.

All tongue--in-cheek, Hank. I gave it a 9/10 while weaving in the always-popular block K debate.

I wasn't hating on it, I was interested enough to analyze and comment on the craftsmanship and the details. You know, finer things and such.

I figured a vet like you, of all people, would be sharp enough to understand it was a tribute.

- Cal is 6-3 against North Carolina.

- Can Nick Richards become something? He’s definitely bouncier this year. He’s always had an underrated touch (see FT shooting).

- I think Cal starts ownership of another Louisville coach this Saturday. Somebody please text me how the game ends, tho. Also- the scores of the two CFB playoff games. tia.

- Working this week is not ideal but you can get things done and come and go as you please, which is nice.

- If you’ve never been to NYC, don’t talk to me. Hayseeds.

-Taking off the final few weeks of the year sounds great in theory, but I'm usually happy to get back to work/routine after the travel marathon that is my Christmas. As previously mentioned, it's about as easy as 'work' gets over this next week. Plus, covering the office while everyone else sits around doing nothing to close out the year earns me all the good will I need for my frequent time off the rest of the year.

-Bottle of Blade & Bow, Original NES, Remote Control Car, socks, 4 figure cash haul. #profit

^ Uncle gets everyone a 'toy' each year, which is immediately put into play for gambol purposes. Last year it was remote control helicopters, this year cars. Instead of the usual Mario Kart, we took to the driveway/street with those w/ a little obstacle course/races for a real life version. Worshipped those things as a kid, and they're just as fun today.

-Have watched most of Louisville's games, and they're surprisingly good & deep. Lotta 'basketball players' -- I expect a good one. Cats by 5 late.

-TSA appt today for Global Entry -- have put that sucker off for like 4 years now -----> any kind of appointment is basically torture for me, even ones that benefit me. Next up is updating my eyeglasses prescription, which is about 2.5 years past due. :grimace:

-Wedding is going to be a shit show, actually pretty damn excited about it -- not very often anymore we get the whole gang together.

-Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

4 figure cash haul? God bless man. I get fewer and fewer gifts each year, which is fine. New smathers and Branson accessories, down vest, 3 figure cash haul, cutting board, and a gift card. That’s about it. Still #blessed, tho

-grinding away with the other working stiffs. As brax said...relatively slow week email/phone wise. Tying up some loose ends.

-we've been "buying ourselves couples gifts" family trips/housewares and such for a bit now...which usually leads to "honey I've picked up a few things for you" which leads to a last minute scramble. This year I made her go to the Jeweler and show my a few things she likes...and asked her to make herself scarce whilst I purchased the gift. It works for us...she will never buy anything "fine" for herself (always other things: trips, projects higher on the priority list) and she deserves something fine/pretty.

BBdK goes thru a relationship cycle.

First 3 years: break up December 19th and avoid gifts altogether
Next 2 years: “let’s be cute and set a $50 limit”
Thereafter: forgo the futility of buying each other gifts completely

Laura (oops I mean Marge) and I agreed that our trip to Paris was our gift to each other. Of course, she wrapped her gifts last week and I noticed that I was getting presents from the kids, the cats and Santa. Touch. I had to scramble.

Her last present arrived on Christmas Eve. Thank you, Amazon. The cats did't get her shit, tho.

We draw names in my family and on her side. I got booze and nice glasses from each side... A bottle of Woodford, a bottle of Woodford Double Oaked, a bottle of Patron Silver, Kentucky Derby Shot Glasses, a Woodford Reserve bourbon glass and a set of four monogrammed (WS - not Wodie Sloot) bourbon glasses.

Hopefully, I too will get an ascot after Mr. Rudd explains to my wife how wonderful they are on Saturday night.

- Best Christmas gift: sleep last night on call. Get to run all the errands today. #blessed

- Trip to Tahoe, Dick's gift card, amazon echo, brother made me a cutting board from scratch, luggage tags, and some UK gear; nothing major. I've essentially asked everyone to stop buying for me as two of my younger brothers are in the post-grad poor phase of life and my other brother has 2 young kids. Oh well, they enjoy giving.

- Got the entire family tickets to see Book of Mormon in Nashville. Not sure how Mom and Dad will feel about it, but...oh well. Family time!

- Took pics of the lass's dogs, sent them to a dude in the Philippines on etsy who redid them digitally to look like pencil/graphite in black/white. Quick trip to FedEx to print on a 16x20. Bought gold modern frames she adores on wayfair. Total maybe $100...endless praise. Best money I've spent in awhile.

- Her family/siblings decided against individual gifts awhile ago except for the little ones, so everyone spends $150 or so on one gift and do a sort of white elephant game with the 8-10 or so people. I guess her sister wasn't a real big fan of the game, so her and her husband basically just bought something they'be been wanting for awhile and picked their own gift when it came time to draw. There was some obvious tension in the room, I guess this couple has pulled this sorta thing before and annoyed the family. So I'm up second to last, say touch it and take one of their gifts (nice carving knife and a couple other kitchen things), and immediately regretted that decision. There were like 2-3 awkward stares from the parents and sister, and her two brothers trying to hold in hysterical laughter that their sister was so visibly butthurt about her own gift being taken. Whoops.

Even an hour after the exchange we were eating dessert and I look over and her sister is admiring the carving knife. Got a few "Thank you" texts from her brothers after we left. Glad I could divide up the family on Christmas.

I brought $150 of Omaha Steaks (great gift btw); big hit.

Tickets to Book Of Mormon. :joy::joy:

Friendly warning — I’d be VERY careful about who you give those to. I mean, one of the very first show tunes in the play is “F*** You, God.”

Anth, do you use the built in Roku with TCL? I picked a 4 series up a few weeks ago on the cheap. The damn thing loses network connection every time I turn it off. Seems to be a known problem and latest update supposed to fix, didn’t work.

I've already seen it. Never laughed that hard in my life. My brothers and their SO are very excited.

Lot of South Park watching growing up. Family dinners when I came back from college were sometimes complete spoken in quotes from South Park. My parents know what they're getting into...

The shows are week and weekend of the SECT in Nashville if anyone is trying to get a little culture into their life.

My wife and I exchange one big present and a bunch of stocking stuffers. This year, she went to NYC to visit some babies a week before Christmas (“no thanks” for dad on that one), and I got the best waffle maker money can buy, which is a pretty selfless gift, IMO. Besides that, I got her a pack of “nice” pens and dotgrid notebook for her sewing/quilting and some clips. NBD. (As previously mentioned, I do not consider Mario Party to be a sanctioned gift for dad.)

We have a fun Christmas morning dynamic (when in-laws stay with us) where her family draws names for the adults (her parents plus three daughters and two husbands) and on my side of the family my mom goes apeshit buying us anything we happen to mention throughout the year and gives us each a check for a few hundred dollars. So that’s always fun when we give my parents and brother their nice big gifts and my in-laws get the mug with our kids faces on it or whatever.

-we started drawing names(with 3 suggestions for desired gifts under $50)for adults on my side after mom passed. Pap and kids baby->college still get gifts from all. This year my wifes side had a nice meal at Coles in lieu of gifts...only 5 of us, twas lovely.

-the reality for me and most of this thread is that we've reached an age that we want/need something were gonna get it for ourselves. No sense in spending time/money for stuff we dont want or need. *Really* don't want anyone spending *real* money on me...as pti noted above, im a picky bastard and have very specific taste in everything.

-older brother's new gal brought tameles and flan to christmas eve get together. Solid addition to our usual waspy fare.

Having no gift exchange with your spouse, I mean, I can't recommend that enough. :fire: Talk about a pointless exercise.
My girl and I "gifted" one another a week on the beach in the Riviera Maya in November. Even better, we did it over our anniversary, so it covered that as well. Best Anniversary/Christmas gift exchange ever, we plan to do it again next year.

-sous vide w/ accoutrements , ceramic burr coffee grinder, french press, new hunting themed poxket square, suede cleaner, fine bar-soaps and an ascot...yep, you read that right m-fers. Ascot.
What grinder? Barazza Sette?

- I got nothing for Christmas, and I couldn’t be happier. That said the Classic NES with Metroid and Zelda has been a lot of fun and my kids might get a chance at it in a few months!

- prepared the Prime Rib for my family’s get together at my moms to help take the burden off my parents who are going through a lot with my Step Fathers dementia setting in.

- Also got a call yday from my sister in Florida that they are flying up because my open invitation to host my adopted fathers family Xmas, after 4 years running, has finally been accepted. When he passed, and then his sister too only 6 months later, a real divide in the family has caused us to not see each other in almost 8 years. So a few years back I started an invitation every year which so far it’s been declined until yday.

My wife’s anxiety is at a peak considering what sent us into a divide. Oh well, can’t wait!

- To win the SEC this year we need 12-4 and maybe just 11-5. Really looking forward to an extremely challenging conference schedule the next few months.

Yeah, we started with the let’s not do gifts this year because of the wedding...which then evolved into “I was hoping you could pay for Part of the videographer as my gift....which ended up being more than any previous Christmas gift ever! And you know my feelings about the videographer.

In return, for my gift she’s paying for a honeymoon activity that I didn’t even really want to do.

Reminds me of when I gave my sister a dartboard for Christmas.

I did get a nice crystal decanter from my future brother/sister in law.
