I think this team, at this point, is legitimately in danger of missing the tournament.

I also think it is stupid to count out Cal or one of his teams in December. We've seen it too many times.

I also think comparisons to Bobby Knight are absurd. If Maye's shot doesn't go in or if PJ hits a couple of FTs we are coming off of back to back F4s.

I am definitely taking a "Show Me" approach with this team. I think it is way to early to give up on the season. But I have ZERO confidence about the game tomorrow.

In the "hope I'm drastically wrong about this" department...

I don't think Cal has the humility to honestly identify his shortcomings and change them. He's not Bobby Knight, by any means, but expecting him to totally revamp the way he coaches the game and how he sells the program to recruits is a fool's errand.

He'll still get good recruits and we'll still be a top 20ish type team and we'll still be frustrating in December and dangerous in March, because for his issues, his teams here have ALWAYS played their best ball late in the season. That's a definite credit to him and how quickly he turns a bunch of players into a team.

But if you're expecting a K-esque recruiting resurgence or him to all of the sudden start running small ball and recruiting specifically to that system, you're going to be disappointed. Cal's gonna sell this program as the quickest way to the NBA and when recruits start realizing the ball we play in Lexington is nothing like what they play in the NBA, we're only gonna land kids who think they'll be ready for the league after one year, not the ones who actually are. (That's already starting FWIW).

It's change your recruiting energy/strategy/personnel, change your style of ball, or change the types of kids you go after. And honestly, I'm not sure Cal's willing to do any of those three. That's a recipe for a slow decline, IMO.

Merry Christmas!

Brutal, but I can't disagree with a word of it.

Surprised Richie hasn't brought up how well Mitchell's team has done this year, to add insult to injury.

He's got those girls playing pretty good ball and seemingly righted the ship.

Some of you guys just need to introduce Cal's people to Smokin' Pat. We have to get back to paying whatever the market rate is to land the elite recruits who are now collectively choosing to go to Duke (?!) or whatever the random of the year is (LSU, Washington, Oregon, etc). The right accountant should be able to help us provide shields at least as good as the competition.

Maybe we need our own Auburn lawyer guy, too.

That plus the previously documented need for an assistant overhaul should get us squared away. Then we can go back to pretending we run DDM or whatever he wants to call it on that day.

if you really think about it, the “calipari teams always play their best in March” is kind of a myth, too. 2011 and 2014. Maybe 2017. MAYBE.

Wow!! What a great March that one was!!! Truly inspirational to watch the Huskies repeatedly murder us in the paint!

Thanks, dipshit, I almost forgot about that one...or the other Husky ass raping.

It's gd Christmas and Bowl Season. Act like it.

We have had some unbelievably opportune chances that we completely fumbled away like total retards. That's really gonna haunt Cal and this fan base (assuming we don't get #2 before Cal leaves, which doesn't seem likely at this point in his career). Cheers!

The whole Dean Smith lecturing Robey was the story I remember that really got the old man’s blood boiling. That and the fact Smith owned us really chapped his ass.

Not mention he just got a transfer from the number #1 guard from the 17 class. Transferring from Texas. Maybe Cal needs to take notes on how to rebuild a shitstain program with a quickness.

Of course it's 8 years too late.
They owed him a lot of money still though. I would imagine the long game from the Reds perspective is hope those 3 guys play well enough to be valuable in July at the trade deadline. Hoping to ultimately dump Bailey's salary, and flip two prospects into 3-4 later this summer. If that works out its a great move... if not- they probably just went from 5th to 4th in the Central and took on more money for nothing.
