- I mean it sounds cool and all to hate on the assistants, but do you all have some tmfh type insight that the rest of us don’t? Duke has a damn bench full of dorks that make Justus look like a gd rockstar. And for all we know Barbee is landing every recruit?

.

Here’s my insight... He’s batting .0000000000000 when he goes head to head against Duke. Oh, and Vernon Carey just committee to Duke last week so the Duke ass kicking doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon.

I don’t need to know nor care who is the lead recruiter on the kids we’ve whiffed on. Justus was first hired as an alanaytics wonder boy and then promoted so we could have this “cool/young assistant” as our primary recruiting assistant. How’s all that working out? Failure.

Also, when he was promoted Robes was demoted to this role where he can’t talk to the players during games bc of this silly NCAA rule. Cal has said many times in the past how invaluable Robes is when it comes to X&O’s. His cool and calm demeanor and tact resonated with kids. And now he can’t talk to the players during games when Cal is losing his mind?

Justus is severely under qualified to be an assistant at the University of Kentucky. Period.

I think Justus was the lead recruiter on Maxey/Whitney. Doesn’t mean Richie is wrong, btw.

Barbee, though, I seriously don’t know what he does. I’m sure someone will immediately pull out an article that is evidence to the contrary but I can’t remember one major recruitment that he is credited for.

About the only time I hear him mentioned is when we are getting killed, Cal goes to “Barbee’s“ zone out of frustration, then immediately comes out of it the first time the other team makes a shot.

...oh well, some of you are taking the negativity a little far, but hey, I guess that’s what happens when you lose to a mediocre team in the Garden after playing cupcakes for a month then give the fanbase a week to chew on it. Shew wee, it would’ve really salty around here but for the awesomeness of Josh Allen.

I'd love to hear these Justus vs Duke battles because I can't think of one time Justus was the lead on a Duke vs UK kid.

Last year his main dudes were Quickley and Johnson.

Also, Robes was demoted because he hates recruiting and it's a disadvantage to have an assistant coach that doesn't recruit. If you don't think he's coaching from the bench I don't know what to tell you. He sits in the exact same spot.

Wu-Tang, we'd like you to perform some songs at this guys desk.

1995 - F*** you

2018 -

Hump Day:

-NYC was awesome as always -- no better place to be in December. Anth covered most, but a few highlights
  • SantaCon NYC was unlike anything I've ever seen. Lost count of how many fights, arrests, girls passed out on the sidewalk, normal people sleeping in doorways, blood, tears, etc. It was like the end of the world, right in Midtown. Lost a little respect for Chad, as it's long been one of his favorite days of the year.
  • Minetta Tavern was worth the hype, and then some. What a classic place, everything about it was perfect
  • Prince St Pizza :boom:
  • Scored 4 Free Tix at Demsey's the day before the game -- Lower Level, 12th Row. Place is a madhouse for UK events just as every 'home' bar where we travel, but it's so cool to have that spot a block from MSG
  • MSG is the best place to watch a game, and it's not even close. Such an intimate place for it's size, and the lighting is unlike any other arena I can think of.
  • Don't think I've ever seen a meaningful halfcourt shot in person, truly a wild moment -- what a shame that it was wasted.
  • Waitress was great. Sara Bareilles came out to close the show, not sure I've seen many rooms of lassies go more bonkers. Just something special about a date night on Broadway, it's always awesome -- always make it our last night, as it's the perfect relaxing way to end a trip once we hit that wall about midway through the evening.

-Made Tomlin a $50 bet that we wouldn't fall out of the Top 25 by February, which is all but a certainty at this point, and likely before Jan 1. :weary: Anyone like to buy a share?

-3 eps into Wild Wild Country -- why hasn't there been more hype around here/elsewhere for that...? Or maybe I just missed it, idk. Anyways, what an incredible story.

-Nova has won 2 of the last 3 national championships, including the one 7 months ago. We can chill with those comps for awhile.

-Curling in Louisville anyone?

-Not having a midweek game :uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi::uzi:

 Well get off cat paw and quit defending our dumbass assistants.

Cal said it again yesterday, in his own words, but he’s scared to death of getting caught up in the fbi stuff. He doesn’t recruit those guys anymore.

What guys doesn't he recruit any more? He was all in on Zion, Reddish, Barrett, Carey, Wiseman, Bamba, etc.

He missed out on all of them. I don't think it is the assistants' fault, I think it is on him. The assistants did the ground work and got us in to the final 2 or 3 (usually) but Cal hasn't been able to close. That isn't Justus or Barbee's job (or Payne, why does he get a free pass?). It is the head coach's job. Sometimes it has been out of his control (Memphis hiring Penny), but I think it is obvious that he needs to change up his approach some.

That being said, we do already have 2 top 10 guys signed for next year with the real possibility of at least 2 more.

I think Cal's demise has been greatly exaggerated, but he does need to get shit right sooner than later.

A couple of these current assholes knocking down an open shot or two and maybe playing a little defense would definitely help.

Unless I simply don't realize that next year's "Top 10" guys are on the level of Wall/Cousins/Davis, etc., I'll expect the same miserable basketball team next December.

Thanks for the heads up, Willy.

What about build a F'n basketball team that can win in the regular season? I have no idea why that is all of the sudden a big ask for the University of Kentucky, or a desire that makes a UK fan less of one.

What a ridiculous state of affairs. Good grief.

^Yep. We marketed so heavily on ending poverty and reaching dreams that we made it taboo or unacceptable to actually stick around, develop as a player and become an experienced contributor.

Well... add in the fact that NBA salaries are so ridiculous that even the marginal chance at a contract means you have to get out.

The joel justus sucks is a lazy take on our recruiting problems. I dont read GYERO for that.

For those of you that missed the leach report Jon Hood is also terrible on breaking down the game.

Watched a homeless man pull a milk shake out of a LA CVS trash can and enjoy right from the straw. Life. Enjoy the ride.

Getting excited about this football game.

-Meh, everyone(rightfully so) is fawning over Nova right now and just pointing out they're not infallible. For playing such a great offensive scheme they wanted Travis(the flow killer) as bad as we did. Wright went out and grabbed a 5* stud PG and he's having trouble keeping him happy. Wright, like Donovan, struck gold with a few classes of overlooked guys and capitalized on it. Everyone is currently freaking out about elite talent, think the BBN would be ok with the last 6 classes ranked: 27th(Arcidiaccano, Ochefu), 36th(Jenkins, Hart), 48(Bridges, Booth), 29th(Ragu, Brunson), 45th(Spellman), 28th(Samuels, Roundtree)? Lolz.

-This is all Cal. Not allowing the blame to go elsewhere. Win the next 3 and lock down McDaniels/Hurt you fat wop. While you're at it fix Green and Herro and guard the 3.

-I thought WWC really fell off after a great start. Not sure I even finished the last episode.

-Yeah, unless we can lock down 2 future perennial NBA all stars in this class I'm not even going to tune in next year. It's December, he has plenty of time to worry about 19 class, I'm worried about 19 tourney.

-Following football recruiting more, not a good idea.

-Family just asked me to make cannoli again this year for the fancy paper plate Christmas. Nice 3 day heads up.

Hey, you're welcome.

I think we pretty much agree. I pointed out that Cal is still recruiting those top tier guys, just not getting them - and I don't think it is the assistants' fault. He needs to change it up and start landing those guys again.

But if we land 4 top 10 guys next year, it would be pretty stupid to whine about recruiting. We haven't yet, so we should feel free to whine away.

Regardless, I agree that there is zero reason UK should be losing to teams like Seton Hall. Wall/Cousins/Davis or not, there is way too much talent on this team to be this shitty. Up until Camby, Cal kept climbing the ladder by coaching up mediocre players into good teams. He needs to rediscover that magic and turn this collection of McDAA's in to a great team.

Stop worrying about generational poverty for a little while and start teaching moving without the ball and how to defend the touching pick and roll.

If I was homeless and I found a still frosty shake in a dumpster, you bet your sweet ass I'd finish it right there.

That's trash can gold, you guys.

No, there's not. That's the whole point of this FARRR JUSTUS discussion. We have trash. Duke just took allll of our players. Keldon Johnson is the closest to a OAD typical Cal circa 2011 Badass, and he's barely that. Maybe. Everybody is pure trash in terms of Cal standards. We can either get better players or make our players stay 3-4 years. That's what UNC and Duke did back when they weren't getting the recruits we were. You either get OADs or you develop your guys, but getting not OAD guys and letting them leave after a year is a disaster.

See? Quade is a 4 year dude and has the potential be a very good college player, but he has ZERO desire to stick around actually do that here. We have a team very similar to an early 2010’s UNC that if they stick around will be great in a couple of years but Cal has created this atmosphere that if you’re not gone after year 1, you’re a bum. Now watch Quade go have a nice career for 4 years at DePaul and be perfectly content. This is what’s frustrating. Tyler Herro, Ashton Haggins, Immanuel Quickly, EJ Montgomery is a final four team next year and the year after. None of them will be back.

I agree on principle, Brax, but Quaid is a bit of a different story. He's just not good enough to play PG here, and he's too short and not athletic enough to play SG here. He has no position here, and he never will. It was stupid to even recruit him, tbh, because he clearly is who he always was going to be.
