-Went and took two 1.5 hour placement tests for the police academy today. That was a barrel of monkeys. Passed both with flying colors.

Learning about the pay and vacation though has me second guessing. Currently make significantly more than a cop’s base salary(55K) and have all the vacation time I want.

Buddy that is one down here said he cleared 73K last year with overtime from working the one million events we have every week but I bet he lost 1/3 in taxes still.

Just not easy to contemplate taking on a more stressful job, more hours, less pay and way less vacation time...

-Who are these psychos that talk in public on speakerphone? Like anyone wants to hear you talk to Stephanie about your kids at the Sears automotive center.

-Speaking of tire shops, we have one in all of KW (since the other closed post hurricane) to service all 20K+ residents. That’s a bit ridiculous.

To want to be a cop in this current environment is bewildering to me.

Think I'm just going to check back in a couple weeks and see who we have coming back - trying to follow it now is like trying to follow recruiting - clearly no one has a damn clue what's going to happen and it's annoying to follow.

Sounds to me like you should get into the tire business.

^I don’t think I’d consider it most places but down here there is VERY little violence minus occasional bar fights.

It’s pretty much small town USA on a 2x4 island.

Massive setback earlier this week when the pocket square I ordered arrived in a different shade than the tie that I was going to pair it with for a trip to the track. Basically back to square one (pun). Could just wear a different tie but feel like that would snowball into picking a different sport coat and potentially different loafs. I'm just not ready to go down that road

Going to spend most of Derby week in Louisville. Track with family on Wednesday, Dawn at the Downs Thursday morning with my mother then 18 holes with my dad... Oaks with some best buds...

Punch Brothers at the Ryman tickets for this summer. [smoke]

The Breeders new album is worth a listen and even a purchase, if people still do that. Basically a trip back to the early-mid 90's when life was still cool.

Interesting approach by the Orioles to offer free tickets for kids. An adult can buy a ticket and take two kids to the game for free.

Regardless of where you are an officer- you probably need to be mentally prepared to see some things that you can't unsee. Even in Key West youre going to have domestic issues, accidents resulting in major injury or death, occasional major crimes, and a slew of other situations that though they may not be the norm- are going to happen. You may not get shot at every night, but there are plenty of other messes. Unless you want that potential scenario in your life, you may want to stick to pouring well drinks for retirees.

Car wash business would rake in FL. Lines down the street for the ones that do exist if you can find them.

The irony my post is when I actually sat down and read the “less money, limited vacation, more stress, more hours” part I kind of thought what in the actual touch am I thinking.

Sounds like opening a tire shop with a car wash on site is the way to go. [cheers]

More putt putts in FL than car washes. TS.

GYERO Sports Bar/Putt Putt/Tire Business/J Gumbos combo site in FL would be a cash bonanza. Probably need the HVAC portion of the business to carry us though for a bit.

But man, PJ and Vanderbilt would really benefit from another year and could greatly improve their NBA stock.

I love Gabriel and hope he comes back, but I don't think he will ever be an NBA player. I'm not sure any additional time in college will change that.

6'10 guys who shoot 40% from 3P aren't exactly a dime a dozen in the league like your typical non-scoring PF's who fill the last few spots on a roster quite often. Those are replaced each year w/ someone who teams hope can develop into a contributor.

NBA stock....you really think Washington is going to improve whatever stock he has? What is his NBA game? You want to talk upside...give me the gazelle who can shoot from 3 and "learn" at the next level what his role is, which is pretty much undefined at UK.

Isaiah Hicks was an above avg PF for UNC, didn't get drafted, finally made a roster, but will probably be up, down, and across the pond his career...not that there is anything wrong with that, but he simply doesn't have the it factor to make it long term...."dime a dozen" like him who have a limited game. If he can make it up there for however long, then Gabriel has this trumped easily.

You have been as bad on this subject the last few days as you are w/ Reds commentary. TFP.

Thank you for your service, Rogue. Let us know when they give you the bullet to keep in your pocket just for emergencies.

Sorry about your dad, Wodie. It's hard to watch our parents get older and less invincible. Let me know if you need anything.

I kind of thought of Washington as a rich man's Chuck Hayes. Better athlete, more explosive, good post moves. Like Chuck, he could work on his passing and shot over the next couple years.

The problem with living in the Keys in general, and Key West in particular, is the high cost of living. My recollection (from doing public sector collective bargaining work) is that public sector jobs pay okay there (certainly better than other parts of the state) but not enough to have a normal middle-class life (wife, house, kids, etc.). It's one thing to be a single bartender living in a rental. It's a whole different thing to be middle-aged with a career and family, wanting a house and so forth.

And I live in Broward County and my perception is that there are enough car washes around here. But, I do know one married couple who quit their jobs (he was a lawyer - not sure what she did) and bought a car wash. They seem to be killing it - at least well enough to pay tuition to send two young kids to elite private school.

Very true for most people unless you work at some of the better bars and can crush year round which there aren’t a ton of, shocking I know.

We have two houses so we’re already good there. Well, WE have one, she has the other that we live in. Mortgage is about 3K/month on the one down here.

It’s pretty much $1000/room if you’re okay with roommates (which absolutely blows when you’re getting in your 30s, at least to me). Plenty of people down here don’t seem to mind. But it’s hard to find dishwashers and whatnot that can afford to live down here on $16-20/hr. Hell, the hostesses at one of the bar/restaurants I work at get $15/hr.

Biggest problem they’re trying to solve is housing shortage which obviously drives up the cost of living. They’re trying to stop people from buying houses down here that don’t live in them but 1-3 months a year and then the houses just sit there unoccupied the rest of the year. And the hurricane obviously didn’t do any favors by wiping out a bunch of houses.

In regards to not having a “normal middle class lifestyle”, I don’t think “normal” people move down here very often and they don’t really want that. Hell, plenty moved down here to get away from exactly that stuff. Desk job, house, mortgage, responsibility, 1.5 kids, PTA meetings, etc.

Around Sept. 11, 2017, Gatto and Gassnola spoke on the phone about making “another $20,000 payment” to the guardian of a player to help him get “out from under” a deal with a rival apparel company to attend Kansas instead of a school sponsored by the other shoe company. Sources told Yahoo Sports that the player is Kansas freshman Silvio De Sousa, and his commitment date to the school matches the one in the federal documents. The paperwork states that De Sousa was more interested in attending Kansas, but his guardian allegedly said he needed to “repay the illicit payments in order to do so.” A Baltimore Sun story from Aug. 30, 2017, characterized De Sousa’s Kansas commitment as a surprise after being considered likely to attend Under Armour-backed Maryland.

So Sousa had a buyout?
