I watched House with Spanish subtitles for two semesters during Spanish I and II.
I've never liked hot sauces that were so hot you couldn't taste the food. I prefer not to experience pain when I eat; but, I'm probably just a hairy, wet vagina.
Like I said, I'm not knocking the profession at all. It's a noble profession for people who willingly go into it knowing the difficulties. Especially where you work, I know it can be a huge struggle. Not a ton of parental support.
That said...you know the Barbers, Bagshaws, or Jolly's?
My brother is a teacher, my SIL is a teacher, my grandmother was a teacher. In other words...irrelevant.

-My wife has 18 years in the system. Under one of the proposed plans, she was going to be on just missing the grandfathered in portion. I think she would have then be expected to not receive a pension until 60 or 65. Kind of stinks when you are 9 years away from your 27 (she would be 53) and suddenly you have to work 7 more years. I'm hoping they get it straightened out.
-I left teaching with close to 100 sick days. I get letting them accrue but I also think there should be a final cap on how much you can cash out. I should have called in sick more.
-The other problem with the pension system is that a lot of retiring teachers game the system in the last few years. They are paid for their high five years (I think it is 5). So a bunch of them become department chair, chess coach, class sponsor, teach ESS and do anything they can to bump their # up so that they get more for the pension. I disagree with that. It should just be based on the base salary.
-There are a lot of terrible teachers out there. There are some great ones too. But man, some of them have some serious mental illness.
-As someone else said, if public school teacher is such a great career move, then start making that move and enjoy the cush job. Until you are locked in a room with 30 kids for an hour and then on repeat, you have no idea how much that can wear you down.
-Found out I owe around $6300 in federal taxes on the same day that UK shits the bed against Kansas State. Lucky for me, I had a feeling this would happen so I had socked a bunch away. Sucks though. It really sucks when my brother in law (who I know makes way more than me) says he isn't paying anything. I need to figure out what the hell I am doing wrong. So if anyone in Louisville has a good tax guy/gal, please let me know. I need some better tax planning.

They need one more round of trading a few players for pitching prospects and hope a few of them actually pan out. Look for Duvall, Schebler, Iglesias, Gennett and maybe Hamilton to be dealt by the trade deadline this year.

Friday random here: the biggest group of slobs you will see at an airport is a women's college sports team. No matter what time it is, they always looked like they just rolled out of bed and put on dirty team sweats and Nike sandals. They take over a section of the gate area and half of them lay on the floor. Soccer teams are the worst offenders btw; tennis is close second. Props to UK track btw. Men were wearing ties and women were dressed nicely as well.
His coach gave his game a comparison to a mix of Rajon Rondo and John Wall. Sounds like just the sniper everyone has been craving.

Totally agree but something has to be done when the state can't pay for the 40BIL owed to teachers. The benefits changes I'm seeing don't look that substantial. The way it was done stinks but that's government these days.
Hopefully you've progressed in the private sector being productive enough and providing a very needed service that you should be making estimated quarterly payments. If not and you're having to pay that still should indicate you're doing very well so consult with an accountant and adjust your withholdings to try and even out your liability. I would suggest anyone other than smoking Pat.

Being married to an elementary school teacher, every time I hear someone say "They only work 9 months out of the year" I want to punch them in the face repeatedly. While the number of days they are required to work equals to 9 months they work many more that they don't get paid extra for. It is nothing for her to be at school by 7:00 AM, work until 6:00 PM or later, come home and eat, then start grading papers until 10:00 or 11:00 PM. so basically a 14-15 hour work day. It also is nothing for her to work 2-3 days out of her spring or fall break to try and get caught up on copies, laminating things, etc. Heck she only gets a 20 minute lunch break and this is if a parent doesn't want to meet with her during that time. Some days she doesn't get a chance to go to the bathroom all day until she gets home or school is out and the kids leave. So to hear the comments from Bevin and some legislators really makes my blood boil.
