Another reminder to those of you that live in Kentucky - nobody, and I mean nobody gives a shit about or talks about Louisville outside of the state. No one. It's as talked about as Wake Forest and NC state are in Kentucky.

Also — 45 or more states don’t give a flying shit about college basketball, so your statement is fairly misguided.

Of course it's not the 5th best job in the country. That's stupid.

While there is a lot of fan support, you're a distant 2nd favorite team in 119 of 120 counties in the state. None of the other programs on that list can say that. And without Jurich playing fast & loose with the rules of accounting (and the rules of everything, really), the money isn't what its fans claim it is. AND OH YEAH ALSO, they're staring down the barrel of another scandal involving rules violations. Indiana is clearly a better job. Michigan State is a better job and has had a lot more success in the modern era than UofL has. Michigan and Texas are football schools, but there's more money there than at UofL. Villanova is currently light years ahead of where Louisville is as a basketball program. Nobody at UCLA cares about UCLA, but nationally, the name is infinitely bigger than UofL.

I don't think people who live in and near Louisville realize how little attention that program gets nationwide. For a top 10 program, it's almost an afterthought.

Gregg Marshall did something right. An oddity in the coaching profession.

“I have a lot of respect for Alex Lomax and his family. When they chose Wichita State in the fall, over several other very nice offers, my staff and I were honored. Obviously, we take commitments to the Shocker program very seriously, but this is a very unique situation where a young man’s mentor and coach since the fifth grade has become a Division I head coach. Allowing him out of his NLOI without any kind of penalty is the right thing to do at this time.”

^ most of those things you said couldn't be more irrelevant.

UCLA isn't a better 'job' than Louisville in 2018. That's why they have Steve Alford, and Louisville had Rick Pitino and soon-to-be Chris Mack (the best coaching hire available in college basketball).

Villanova? Lol

Just wait until they get the Death Penalty with no tv or scholarships for 10 years!!!!

It doesn't matter if UL is known or talked about nationally. Other coaches consider it a top job. That's all that matters. And it's a great time to go to the ACC and get established. Within 5 years it's highly likely that Boeheim, Williams, and K are all retired. And the only one of those programs I feel fairly confident that will continue their success would be UNC. There are no guarantees at Duke or Syracuse. They could experience the same difficulties that UCLA has had ever since Wooden retired.

We can hate the Cards all we want, but they have everything a coach needs/wants to be a huge success and more. This city is the college basketball capital of the world. No other area, metro or otherwise, cares as much about the sport as the people here do. Now that's greatly assisted by UK and IU fans but it's still true.

However, it will never be a better job than UK. 5 coaches have won titles here. Nobody comes close to that. It's the Iron Throne of college hoops.

Meh, you can argue the order 6-10 all you want -- Louisville is one of them. Mainly speaking to the idiots who, b/c they hate Louisville (as we all do), act as if it's not a Top 10 job when it clearly is. Per usual, a few idiots in here make it seem like others are sweating Louisville b/c they have common sense as a basketball fan.

It's not even an argument.

I don't know what it's ranked nationally as a job, but I know there's a lot of stink to wash off of it. Not sure I'd want a Ferrari with two major accidents, a branded title, and a six grand ticket at the shop waiting for you if I've got a mint condition, loaded Lexus at home like Villanova or Xavier fresh off a 1-seed.

Nobody's saying it's not a top 10 job historically.

But I am saying it's not the "5th best job in the country" -- which is how this whole thing began -- because that's stupid. If PTI disagrees, which appears to be the case (though who the hell can tell because he talks in circles) then he's wrong.

I will die and be buried on that hill.

Of course they don’t. As I said before, they’re headcases.

what would be the criteria used to presume its not a top 6-10 college basketball job- isnt that what the initial post was about (UL was a top job after UK/UNC/Duke/KU and grouped in with a few other schools?)

Nobody posting here, nor Fat Howie, ever proclaimed it to be the #5 job.

Lots, including Howie, are arguing it to be in the next group behind the legendary schools. Huge difference, and accurate.

w&w’s continued argument makes a lot more sense if you completely misinterpret the original post, particularly Howies tweet.

Louisville currently sits at 26th in all time wins

Last post on the subject because this is ridiculous and I have work to do.

"It's a better spot than Indiana, Texas, UCLA, Villanova, Michigan, Syracuse, Michigan State... I'd say the top programs right now would be Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas. Louisville is right after that group (with a handful of others)."

He says UofL is "better than" IU, Texas, UCLA, Villanova, UM, Cuse, MSU, and then says it's "right after" UK, KU, UNC, Duke "with a handful of others." So it's somewhere after those last four and before those first six "with a handful of others." Which others? UConn? Florida? Ohio State? Gonzaga?

Regardless, it's not better than Indiana and an argument can be made that it's not currently better than some of the others he mentions.

(Counterpoint: I don't care.)
