Great Beer....the sequel

I know Transy mentioned that pineapple ipa on Untappd.

What is the deal with fruit being infused into IPAs these days.
Might have posted this last page, but basically the hops have fruit characteristics to begin with. Adding fruit highlights those characteristics without needing to hop the beer to death or changing the overall profile in the way adding fruit to a lager or lightly hopped ale would.

Also, it makes IPAs more approachable. Not many people would dive into a 8% 90ish IBU beer, but if it has some "refreshing fruit" flavor, it might attract some people.

They are a gateway IPA, a nice summer beer, and a nice change of pace for big drinkers. They check a lot of boxes, as the terrible cliche goes.

I was out this weekend and was going to try Ballast Point watermelon until I remembered the reviews on here. Went with a Sweetwater Blue and enjoyed it. It's light and sweet like Grapefruit Sculpin, and plan to keep both on hand when hot weather hits.

Tried another out of curiosity. Tin Man Overlord Imperial IPA weighing in at 9%. It is a really smooth IPA flavor with enough alcohol burn I really question the 9% claim. The next time I try one of the "heavyweights" I'm going to have a couple of regulars in me to dull the burn.

Louisville just landed an elite craft beer festival. It sounds like there will be an opportunity to try some very rare beers.

"If Louisville wasn't already on the radar of craft beer enthusiasts, it probably is now with the announcement that one of the country's most renowned festivals is making its way to town.

The Festival - as the event is aptly named - is a two-day affair organized by Massachusetts-based Shelton Brothers that invites brewers from around the world to share and discuss beers that would likely never reach the typical consumer's lips.

This year, The Festival plans to set up shop at Butchertown distillery Copper & Kings from Oct. 28-29."....................

I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't go that festival.

Shockingly, I find the Leinenkugel Shandy's (Ginger, Lemon, Watermelon, Grapefruit) to be very tasty.

Normally, I cant stand fruit beers.

Hung out with him yesterday for awhile. We only had one beer. Can't remember the name but it was an excellent porter for breakfast. Enjoyed it with a hot brown in enemy territory across the street from the Yum Center at BBC.

Hope he let's me know the next time he comes through Louisville.

Since this is a beer thread, I drank a few Coors heavy, banquet beers on the golf course this afternoon, and am currently slamming Bud Lights with a vengeance. Ain't too proud to slum, baby baby.

The first time I drank NYFRB, I told my wife that it was the best root beer I had ever had regardless of alcohol or not. Something in my make up agrees with root beer. I love that shit.

I've sampled Sweetwater Blue this past Saturday evening. Was impressed.

This is late and likely may have already been posted, but in the event it was missed I thought I would post again. Cool event coming to Louisville, past year attendee list was impressive:

@AustinTXCat - so what was your beer haul from Jungle Jim's?
Enormous . 97 bucks.

Ohio sampler pack
Heavy Seas sampler 12 pack
6 point hi res 4 pack
Lots of singles and other 6 packs.

Jungle Jim's Eastgate is amazing. My friends in Cincy, whom I visited yesterday, said the Fairfield (Hamilton) location is even better.

I just recently took a beer tour in Lexington. I live near Cincy so it was all new to me. Went to 4 breweries. I really liked all 4. They were all different in their own way. Country boy was first. The venue was really wasn't anything fancy, which is fine by. What was surprising was the list of beers that they had. I was surprised. I think they had 16 on draft which is a lot of self made beers. They had something for everyone. I really enjoyed cliff jumper and shotgun wedding. Laid back cool place.

Next was blue stallion. Never heard of this place at all. At their bar I could hardly see over the top of it lol. Super cool place for watching games. Great environment. I actually liked the smoked lager the most. I don't see those too often so it was fantastic. The staff was great and the shuffle board game was a blast.

West 6th was next. It was very open and had food in the place which is always nice. Loved the Porter and their ipa is very solid. They ran some good sampler deals as well.

Ethereal was next. I really like the venue their. Reminds me of warped wing in Dayton. Excellent beer there as well. Its like a little city in the middle of nowhere. I ate ice cream in some place there and I really wanted to eat at a restaurant really close called Middle Fork. Food looked so good. All in all it was a great experience. I try new breweries any chance I can get but I think that lexington is truly a gem and very underrated. All the places are so different and that is what makes it great to me. Rooster brewery in Paris the only one that eluded me, so if anyone has any insight on Rooster please reply.
