GOLF thread

I remember that US Open several years back when the ball kept rolling off the green. No matter where they landed their shots, it wouldn't stay on the green. Finally the course managers had to go water the greens in the middle of the tournament.
2004 Shinnecock Hills. What is ironic, the first two rounds, players where doing well. 11 golfers under par, so they stopped watering the greens. Final day average scoring was 78.7. Only 2 players ended up below par. Retief Goosen and Phil. They ended up having to water the greens in between holes to keep them "playable".

2018 Shinnecok Hills was terrible again. It was the year Phil chased his putt and hit it while still rolling, ended up taking a 10 and could have been DQ'd.

2007 at Oakmont, they had their greens running 13-15 on the stimpmeter.

The worst greens ever ? The Broccoli Greens at Chambers Bay.

Chambers Bay was horrible.

As you can see so far for the past two days....let mother nature and the natural design of a difficult course take over, and it doesn't matter how far you drive it.
Yes, and 30 mile an hour winds in bad weather and the British Open makes a bit of a difference as well. Two years ago, at the Old Course, it was a driver-putter on 6 different holes in different weather and Cam Smith was something like -20

If you make it to Park Mammoth, plan a round at Shady Hollow. It’s 50 mins away if you take the interstate, or 15 if you take the Green River Ferry right through mammoth cave park.
Played both many times. Shady Hollow is fun but doesn't compare to park mammoth really.
Will Levis was out a Park Mammoth earlier today playing.

Hilton Head golf this past week. Played Indigo Run and Country Club of Hilton Head.

Indigo was meh, had the same feel as Oyster Reef and Bearcreek with a little Shipyard thrown in.

CC was a different look. Not too difficult, wider fairways but elevated greens surrounded by traps.

Just got confirmation my new Mizuno irons will be in hand tomorrow. Couple rounds this week with member/member this weekend.

Likely don’t have a real big chance in the event, but will be fun to see what the new clubs can do. Love getting new gear, although it doesn’t necessarily translate to good results every time 😂

Scottie, easily. The PGA isn’t even a real major, especially at Valhalla, remember?

I remember an interview with Rory about being at Tigers house and seeing all his major trophies in his trophy room. But not a single trophy from any other event. Rory asked Tiger where the rest were and he said he didn’t know. Gave some away, some might be in storage, etc. I think Scottie would trade the 5 non major wins this year for another major.

Did you get fitted? I used off the rack irons for 35 years before finally getting fitted for irons a couple years ago. Index is a little over 2 strokes lower now, and I’m not nearly as long as I used to be with the driver.

Yes - went to a Titleist and Mizuno fitting. Was a great experience with both. Ended up with some Project X LZ shafts in the 245 Pro.

Performance was really close with the T200, but in my opinion the 245’s visually are incredible. I was surprised with how much forgiveness they fit into the design.

Awesome, hope you enjoy them man. I went PXG when they were running a huge sale and got 4-SW for under $800 total. Super happy with them, although I wanted titleist or Taylor made originally. Just so much more expensive.
