GOLF thread

I remember that US Open several years back when the ball kept rolling off the green. No matter where they landed their shots, it wouldn't stay on the green. Finally the course managers had to go water the greens in the middle of the tournament.
2004 Shinnecock Hills. What is ironic, the first two rounds, players where doing well. 11 golfers under par, so they stopped watering the greens. Final day average scoring was 78.7. Only 2 players ended up below par. Retief Goosen and Phil. They ended up having to water the greens in between holes to keep them "playable".

2018 Shinnecok Hills was terrible again. It was the year Phil chased his putt and hit it while still rolling, ended up taking a 10 and could have been DQ'd.

2007 at Oakmont, they had their greens running 13-15 on the stimpmeter.

The worst greens ever ? The Broccoli Greens at Chambers Bay.

Chambers Bay was horrible.

As you can see so far for the past two days....let mother nature and the natural design of a difficult course take over, and it doesn't matter how far you drive it.
Yes, and 30 mile an hour winds in bad weather and the British Open makes a bit of a difference as well. Two years ago, at the Old Course, it was a driver-putter on 6 different holes in different weather and Cam Smith was something like -20

If you make it to Park Mammoth, plan a round at Shady Hollow. It’s 50 mins away if you take the interstate, or 15 if you take the Green River Ferry right through mammoth cave park.
Played both many times. Shady Hollow is fun but doesn't compare to park mammoth really.
Will Levis was out a Park Mammoth earlier today playing.

Hilton Head golf this past week. Played Indigo Run and Country Club of Hilton Head.

Indigo was meh, had the same feel as Oyster Reef and Bearcreek with a little Shipyard thrown in.

CC was a different look. Not too difficult, wider fairways but elevated greens surrounded by traps.

Scottie, easily. The PGA isn’t even a real major, especially at Valhalla, remember?

I remember an interview with Rory about being at Tigers house and seeing all his major trophies in his trophy room. But not a single trophy from any other event. Rory asked Tiger where the rest were and he said he didn’t know. Gave some away, some might be in storage, etc. I think Scottie would trade the 5 non major wins this year for another major.

Just got confirmation my new Mizuno irons will be in hand tomorrow. Couple rounds this week with member/member this weekend.

Likely don’t have a real big chance in the event, but will be fun to see what the new clubs can do. Love getting new gear, although it doesn’t necessarily translate to good results every time 😂

Did you get fitted? I used off the rack irons for 35 years before finally getting fitted for irons a couple years ago. Index is a little over 2 strokes lower now, and I’m not nearly as long as I used to be with the driver.

Yes - went to a Titleist and Mizuno fitting. Was a great experience with both. Ended up with some Project X LZ shafts in the 245 Pro.

Performance was really close with the T200, but in my opinion the 245’s visually are incredible. I was surprised with how much forgiveness they fit into the design.

Awesome, hope you enjoy them man. I went PXG when they were running a huge sale and got 4-SW for under $800 total. Super happy with them, although I wanted titleist or Taylor made originally. Just so much more expensive.

Your club in Louisville?

Just curious, where is your Member/Member at?

Back to basically rehashing an old argument:

But, other than Bryson, who played brilliantly at the US Open and the PGA, LIV guys really were quiet this year in the majors, did not do much of anything, not sure they had any other top 5 finishes other than Dechambeau. Rahm and Koepka especially really poor years. Does this change your opinion of LIV and how well it prepares the players for a major, as opposed to the PGA and DP tours?

My only opinion of the LIV tour is that it has made golf a worse product overall for the consumer. The guys that took the money, I got no problem with that.

And yes, BD was the only LIV guy to record a top 5 in a major.

And zero LIV guys appear in the top 15 of cumulative major scores for the year.

I play Diamond Caverns along with Shady Hollow. Love the short Par 3 on the back and the dog leg 18th with the pine trees at the end of the fairway before it dog legs left (I think) ? Like I said in my earlier post, I haven't played up that way in a while, does Diamond Caverns have the little Par 3 over the gorge (very narrow but depth but also very long ? I can't remember if it is there or Shady Hollow ? Also, the Par 4 with the Gorge about 20 yards short of the green ? I hit a shot that was literally right on the edge of that hole. Was not taking any chances, I placed my ball about 2 yards back. Rules or no rules, my ass is not going to fall into a 60 foot or so gorge trying to comply with the rules of golf. Did NOT take a penalty, LOL. Treated it as a health hazard in my rule book.
I think both holes you speak of are Shady Hollow. Shady Hollow #6 is the par 3 and #11 is the one you moved your ball. That’s actually a short par 5

Mizuno MP-20’s have been amazing but when my swing is off just a tad they are punishing. When I am on I can do any shot shape I want with these things.

New gear right before a member/member is risky.

Just a few notes:
I've never actually seen Trump golf. The man is GOOD. I just got home from shooting 88 and I'm jealous. He stripes his drive. He's a little yippy on his putts but he also asked Bryson about his own putting stroke. Clearly Trump is open to improving his game at 78 years old. Despite being club champion 18 times.

7:00 A little crack about Joe Biden playing golf. Nothing nasty, just a little jab. Except for the one joke, no politics.
31:20 Trump makes a 25 foot putt
35:30 Trump got jokes
Trump has been closer to the pin than Bryson MULTIPLE TIMES
13th hole Trump's tee shot 4 feet from the hole and taps it in for EAGLE.
50:55 Trump DOESN'T normally play the senior tees.
18th hole, Trump's drive and approach shot work and Trump nails the 20+ footer for birdie to seal up -22 and log a FITTY.
Trump's stamina is amazing. It has to be 100 degrees out and he doesn't look tired. I get home from a round and my whole body aches and I'm 53.

Lmaooooooooo. If you’re out there hanging 88s, your opinion is pretty worthless.

Watching Trump and Bryson play was really enjoyable. Trump owns his game as well as anyone out there. Not the prettiest swing and his putting stroke is painful to watch but puts the club in the right positions and generates an amazing amount of speed for a guy at his age. Good example on it’s not how it looks but what the end result is. Bryson is a walking humble brag but dude backs it up.

Bryson's like a big kid, he's just full of juice and backs it up with talent and hard work. Social media means you're always selling yourself as a commodity, so self promotion is part and parcel. You can hate but he's not a paper tiger. I've gotten some pretty good tips from his instructional videos.

Why does Rickie Fowler still carry around that water bottle? So silly looking. Every course they play has plenty of water and sports drinks. Looks like a kid carrying around a teddy bear. Sheesh.
