D. Have been following UK since 1978

Born in Frenchburg, raised in Elliott County.
Followed the Cat's as long as I can remember.
Thankful when we win, but don't feel entitled as a fan.
Championships are a privilege and not an entitlement.

Two degrees from UK. Attended every football and basketball game for six years I was there . Season football tickets for 40 years . Have attended over 200 games in Rupp arena .

My wife graduated from UK also
First game I attended at Memorial coliseum was the season UK was on probation and played blue white game . I was about six I guess .
My wife and I together serve on four UK committees . have Traveled with Cats to many regionals and two final fours .
My wife and I are totally different and normally watch different tv shows . but one thing that we agree on is UK spirts are sacred . Everything stops in our house when we play a football or basketball game .
If the phone rings during a UK game we never answer it . We figure anyone that is not watching the UK game is not worth talking to.

First of all, “credentials” are NOT required to be a UK fan!
But if you ask:
1) born and raised in (southcentral KY)
2) started watching/listening to UK in 82/83 when I was in middle school. From the next season (Twin Towers) until over 15-20 years later I watched or attended or listened to every single UK (basketball) game.
3) I kept game-by-game live-stats for every game from 83-84 season until 91-92 season (except for the 2 UK games I attended while enrolled at WKU) so 8 seasons, stopping then because I was in grad school at UK going to every home game.
4) my 1st UK game I went to was UK vs WKU in Freedom Hall, I was in the WKU student section wearing all UK gear. Once in high school I was at an academic (FBLA regional meeting/competition) where they were announcing the winners to the event I completed in (business math) but I was too busy listening to the UK-UF game on my Walkman to not hear them announce that I had won 1st place (a month later I got 2nd place in the state)
5) I went to grad school at UK, attending every home game except 1 (I was throwing up every hour with food poisoning so gave my roommate my ticket and student ID)
6) I have kept updated in-season summary stats (even down to TOs, steals and fouls) since 2001, yes the past 22 years all in one spreadsheet
7) been on these UK message boards since the early 90’s
8) in grad school I spent the night in Memorial hallway to get S16 tickets to watch Mash & UK destroy top 20 WF in Charlotte. We left for the game after classes, and drove back after the game, getting back to Lexington about 7-8am. I had 2 classes I was teaching at 10:30 and 12, but I slept through alarm missing the 1st
9) Have attended every UK game at UNC the past 25 years, always in UK blue; and many UK games at USC
10) raised my son to be a UK fan, with all his friends UNC, NC St or Duke fans since we live so close to all 3. He even wore something UK every day to school his FR year of HS. He still bleeds blue having never lived in KY and now is at NC St.

On December 18, 1965, I drove 40 miles from Gatlinburg (Vacation) until I found a radio signal so I could listen to Claude Sullivan broadcast the game between UK vs Indiana. Sat in my car on a Bridge on I-40.

Blew them out by 30 points.

That good enough?
UKIT final....Was first meeting between the two since 1944.

Uggggh----the Lou Watson era.

Got an interesting story... Have always been an IU fan----but my brother was BBN through and through.

As kids we were watching IU/UK in the 1984 NCAAT. IU had beaten UK early in the year---And bro and I got a long juuuuust fine.

But this was the NCAAT----So ya know, different stakes.

Great game...Tough loss. Afterward we get into it....I was like, "**** you---gonna get your asses beat by UL anyways..." And he was like---"At least we get to play..." Smart ass.

Anyways my grandfather steps in---Christian, no nonsense dude. He's like, "Listen if ya'll cannot respect the others team----You wont watch. Period. My brother gets in one last shot---"Well, have to wait until next year to watch your losers...: Again, smart ass. Anyways, we watch the UL game....No reason to get into that. But for some reason, it wasn't fun seeing my brother so upset....So that was a turning point for me. Since then I have always rooted for UK....unless playing Indiana of course.

Fast forward many years, and I marry a UK fan. She was amazed---How do you NOT hate UK? So I told the story. Wife and I have been to many UK games----and IU. She goes to BBM almost every year.

I wouldn't say im a "FAN"---But I do follow UK baskjetball, have a ton of respect for the program and I will root for them.

So that is my story...

Was on the phone with a friend already celebrating a Kentucky win. That SOB hit that shot and we were so stunned we couldn’t talk. After a few seconds I just heard a click! 🤣 Not sure what he did but all I could do was stare at the TV. 🤦‍♂️
Watched that game with my brother...When Woods(Indy kid) hit that shot, it was craziness....Indiana/UK was about to happen---in the FF.

Then of course...

We should have beaten Duke. Worst officiated game ever. Teddy hated Bob. I have officiated HS and CBB for many of years. never thought much of that game until years later when I actually worked with and was mentored by non other than Valentine. Lets just say----he did not like RMK. Did he screw IU? I dunno. But sure was a lot of fouls in that game that NOW I am like---Hmmmmm... Anyways---story for some other time. But ****......

I would have loved to see you beat Duke! I don’t know what it is about them but I have never liked them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Born in esteem Kentucky. My family has been here for 5-6 generations. My 4x great grandfathers were all from Kentucky or Virginia.

Haven’t missed a televised game since 2002.

I watched the entire game when we got beat by 40 against vandy.

I mainly wear blue

Yeah your family and all that matter but this shit is real to me.

When I’m depressed I watch old Kentucky games.

Back in 5th grade we couldn’t find the game on tv so my dad and I sat in the car and listened to it on radio.

I’ve had season tickets before.

I can’t watch games in public.

Banged your mom.

Born and raised in Lexington. Got my bachelors degree from UK. Loved the victories. Losses changed the trajectory of my week (up until a few years ago).

Gatlinburg was a vacation spot in 1965?

I was talking to my mom about Gatlinburg a few days ago. I was out on my honeymoon. She said she went through there in the mid 80's and it was pretty much dead.
We went there to vacation for the first time in 1971.

1984 I was in a horrible car wreck in the state of Indiana. I lost a lot of blood and needed a transfusion. However, my blood is blue and they didn't have any of that in their blood supply. Fortunately, a beautiful nurse who had grown up in KY and attended UK gave blood to save my life. True story!!! (As true as a lot of stuff I read on here!)

Following since Cotton Nash. Attended games at Memorial Coliseum when I was a little kid. Graduated from UK in 1976. Multiple friends to this day with members of the Super Kittens. Drove Coach Hall, Leonard Hamilton, and Joe Dean, Jr on recruiting trips. I could go on…61 years and still
Bleed Blue.

Graduated from UK 2003.
Went back for a masters in 2011.
Jamal Mashburn spent a summer trying to meet me.

Badges, we don’t need no stinking badges. That’s all the credentials you get from me tough guy.
Go Cats!

in 1969, at age 13, took a Greyhound bus by myself from Covington to Lexington so I could sneak into the UK-LSU game, featuring Big Dan and Pistol Pete. And I got in and saw a fantastic game.

Born and raised in Kentucky. Watched or listened to every game past 60 years since I was 3. For most of my life I could not get or afford tickets to games, so I sat on the top back of my couch for years with binoculars listening to games on the radio while I watched them so could feel like I was in upper arena at Rupp. Sons would walk thru and sell me concessions. Wife dressed as cheerleader during these games. Sons were never allowed to wear orange or red growing up because even seeing the colors of Tenn, Indiana and Louisville make me feel ill. Now go to most games with son, a UK grad, with seats midcourt lower arena. Been to 4 final fours. When I die I want to be cremated and my ashes put in a game ball. This way I will finally get to play in a game for my team, will be high scorer since every basket will be scored with me and afterwards ball can be put on mantel and my grandsons can take me down and play ball with me anytime they want. Every ounce of me bleeds blue win or lose, I support my cats.

Similar to you, my dad and uncle got me into UK basketball. Grew up idolizing Tayshaun Prince and Scott Padgett, and the 90’s Pitino teams. Grew up in Louisville and attended a couple games a year for most of my life. Made memories with my Dad and Uncle that I will cherish forever.

Never was into football much growing up, that has become a more recent addiction for me.

Proudly bleed blue for both sports.

I have zero, aside from some relatives who lived in KY.

I wanted to start getting into college basketball back when I was in early Highschool (2003-ish). I hated Duke, UNC and Cuse because thats what everyone liked up by me. I liked the Blue and White colors, and it was a team no one up in the northeast seemed to be a fan of, so I picked UK.

I've been to Rupp a few times now, and I'll go to any UK game that comes to the northeast.. WVU in the Elite 8, Mohegan Sun Casino, Barclays center, Madison Square Garden, etc.

I'll never know 10% of the history that many here know and lived (but I continue to read about history and the past), but I do like to think I bring some outside perspective to college ball and UK ball. I think its good for any fanbase to have some outsiders who can see things differently at times.

Born and Raised in Lex KY. Does not make me a UK fan.
Father was a huge UK fan, Brother Huge UK fan. Does not make me a UK fan.
Followed UK since birth. Does not make me a UK fan.
What makes me a UK fan is living and breathing UK football / UK basketball / UK baseball and to a lesser amount most of the other sports. I get sick when we are bad or have a bad game. I get heartbroken at the end of every season. My wedding was on Dec 17 1988. UK IU game. We had the wedding and after the ceremony, my and some of the best men were in an office watching UK play IU. Wife and both families were in the sanctuary waiting on us to come back and take pictures. They waiting for a bit till the preacher found us in his office watching the game. My kids all 3 when they were babies would be in my arms on late games so the wife could sleep. One of my 3 are UK basketball fans, One went to UofL (yes I still love him) and the oldest Went to university of the Cumberlands, then to Dundee University (Dundee Scotland) for Masters work and then CMU (Central Michigan University) for her Doctorate and married a local up there and is the latest transplant from KY to Michigan for our family. Yes I love her even though she is not a UK fan.

It was in me from such a very early age as well as being a Cincy Reds and Pittsburg Steelers fan ( well before bradshaw and the first superbowl). It is just who I am.
I am a Christian, Deacon in my church, husband, father and most of all a UK FAN.

KY born and raised during 96' and 98' champs, and a UK student during Billy G era..........

I would go to the ticket lottery and watch them Billy G teams play for like $10 a game. I guess the tickets were worth that when you think about it. But hey its the experience that counts.

Fondest memory high fiving Nazr Mohammed after a packed game at freedom hall of all places as a young kid.

Played on varsity high school team and really do not miss all the training.

I was overweight but tall enough to make a good post player.
