Of course UK can't "just snap our fingers and hire any coach" but we have the money and influence to get ALMOST any "we want" to listen. That's what is happening right now. Doesn't mean we get the top choice, but it also doesn't mean we have to settle for someone NO ONE wants.

Scott Drew is a GREAT coach and would be the ONLY coach UK has EVER hired that has won a National Championship prior to arriving!!!

I also don't understand why some are so upset about hiring him.

Our 2007 search should be a reminder of that. We struck out a lot or had a lot of public refusals like Barnes and Wright. We panic hired Gillispie.

We were fortunate in 2009 because Cal would’ve walked here from Memphis to take it.

I just don’t see why some are acting like Drew is awful.

This actually reminds me of 2007. Championship winning UK coach leaves for a lesser job after reading the writing on the wall on Lexington. A coach at another school just won his second straight championship. Fans decide that’s the guy. We offer him the world. He turns us down, fans can’t understand why. Seems familiar.

People forget the sincerity and professionalism of doing business in person. I’m all about WFH and remote work. But if I’m spending millions of dollars my ass is going to be meeting people in person.

Yeah, well, I 'd hold off on my outrage since you don't know anything about who's been offered & who hasn't.

technically, I have plenty of outrage on Mitch for his 3 out of 6 bad hires in the major sports.
Bill Gellespie, Joker Phillips, Kyra Elzy... all 3 inexcusable with warning signs. I don't like mitch and his decision process.... plus being weary on NIL and booze during games and so and so on ... his moral holier than thou approach... so color me very biased.

Hopefully rumors are true and both coaches are coming for interviews and given equal opportunity.
