FIT.Y.E.R.O. (Meathead, wellness, fitness, diet, exercise) Thread

I highly doubt anyone cares to hack your blood pressure and HR statistics but I do not know of one besides doing it the old fashioned way.

How much creatine do you all take in during a typical day? I took my first scoop this morning in my pre workout, and couldn’t even tell a difference, so that was encouraging.

Also, I drink pre workout during the first 30 to 45 minutes of my workout. Should I drink the creatine BEFORE my workout, or is during just as effective?

I take before in pre and after in a protein shake. About 4g each time. That’s a little high though so start with probably just 5g/day.

And yea it should be basically unnoticeable unless you drink it in just water.

All my blood stats are dead nuts perfect after this addition to daily routine. Add protein powder.

I got up to 1200m without stopping and thought i was gonna die. But I ultimately stopped due to 1. Difficult to find a pool and 2. Like other cardio it is insanely boring. The 800 and 1200m felt like an endless time loop (which I guess it kind of is)

Open water is way more interesting and fun. I got to the point I was doing two to three miles a day. Good conditioning for sure.

-Definitely tougher but not available daily/year round for most people.

-Added Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar back into the daily regimen today.

-Think I’m going to order some Cardarine to see how it works for fat loss. Lots of good reviews from current and former IFBB pros.

I worry that some of you will burnout with some paralysis by analysis trying to Huberman Optimize your workouts and diets. I'm exhausted just reading it all 😆 .

I pick up heavy shit a few times a week and try to eat more lean protein and vegetables than I do fried food and sugar. It's not complicated, but it always isn't easy.

Leg Day today:

Hip thrusters: 8 X 12-15 w/lateral band walks between every two sets
Bulgarian split squats: 5 X 10
Accentuated Eccentric Leg Curl: 4 X 10
Leg Extensions: 4 X 12-15 (burnout set)

The squats and overall leg stuff is so key and I absolutely hate it. But it makes a difference. I played my first competitive pickup football game yesterday in years. Last series of the game, I broke on a pass, tipped it up, picked it off, and ran it back for a TD. I could just tell I had more explosiveness than I did a few years ago - and it was all due to the lifting. The 9-year olds I was playing against never had a chance.

The mid-life awakening when you begin grasping at any hope of turning back the clock.
The things old men will swallow to feel younger.

I’ve been drinking beers all day and going to eat a huge plate of pulled pork with baked potatoes and baked beans and garlic loafs. After that I’m getting in the hot tub to offset everything I ate and drank 🍺

I have a feeling you don’t take your weight loss seriously, except shoving monjourno in your glutes.

Are you supposed to drink creatine before or after a workout?
You can take it any time, with any delivery mechanism and it’ll be absorbed into the muscles. Some say they can lift longer if they consume before a workout, but I haven’t noticed a difference on mornings I do/do not. Guess if you had to pick one or the other, go after, but it’s splitting hairs.

Like whey, you can’t take too much, assuming you drink water throughout the day.

Started on the keto diet three weeks ago. Best I've felt in a long time.
I've got a friend that has started taking semaglutide. I tried to caution against it. No, I'm not a doctor, but I can't see any way in which taking that isn't a bad idea.

Just the peptide semiglutide or Ozempic/Mounjaro? The former is fine if the person takes diet and exercise seriously. Even if not as regimented, still better than the two pharmaceuticals. Tho I wouldn’t recommend someone start if they didn’t take the other stuff serious.

The problem with the later is all the other junk added to the peptide that causes negative side-effects [think those commercials with a litany of “may cause”]…If the person isn’t disciplined in those two areas, they should get off that stuff yesterday.

Ozempic is what he's started on.
My thought, and I could be wrong here, is that doesn't semaglutide put your body INTO ketosis? I thought that was it's main funtion; that it jump started that process. As opposed to doing what I'm doing: 50 carbs a day, but that it takes a few weeks for your body to actually "go into" ketosis.

On a related note; my wife has three friends that have been taking those injections for a year. One of them recently went off of it, and is now eating like a NFL lineman trying to put on weight.
I'm doing keto because I need to lose a fair amount of weight, and I'm convinced that simple carbs are the single worst thing you can put into your body (next to cigarette smoke, which I addressed about a year ago)

Diet soda (soft drinks period, other than unsweetened tea) is also gone. If I want a high ball to get me through a UK game, it's plain seltzer/club soda.

LSD and boomers are still on the table though. I mean, I can only go SO far...

Where in the world did you hear this?

I am up by 3:20 AM weekdays and 4 on weekends. I am on trail soon after. Skunks are biggest fear. I run every other day and lift on days that I don't run. I walk every day. I try to get over 200 miles a month running and walking combined.

Hold up knees....please.

At 340 AM on the trail, I am listening to this most mornings. I will be 58 soon, I hope. Goggins, Jocko, Rogan, Peterson keep me motivated.

Appreciate the info in this thread. Started weight training again several months ago after decades of not lifting. Mainly to control blood sugar. Five days per week. 68 years of age. Can only bench 205 now. Will start creatin thanks to info in this thread. Please keep the info coming.

What time do you go to bed?

At 63 I'm at the maintenance stage. Been lifting since 1974 but all I've been doing the past 10 years is trying to keep status quo. Jogged for 38 years and hated every minute of it. Now I walk 7-8 miles a day mostly with my dog. Much more relaxing. Still pump the iron but not nearly as heavy. No gains, no losses. All I'm after at this point in life. Happy with my weight and body.

Bette

Better than not trying and sitting on a couch slowly debilitating into puddle of lifeless monotony.
Agreed. Just comical the stuff we start giving consideration when we get a peek at the downhill.
I’m in it too. Doesn’t mean I don’t get a kick out of the potions and elixirs that start showing up.

Didn’t hear about it. I read about this stuff extensively, listen to podcasts on subject, talk to those in the industry to determine what may or may not work for myself and friends/family.

Since you've read so much about it, care to share a link or two that supports the claim?

At this point, I'm just trying to make the years I have left dignified and enjoyable. **** being hip/knee replacement guy. I've got a part time gig that forces me to get up early and be productive, and I've got a lot of interests/hobbies/philanthropic activities etc. that I want to enjoy, and I don't want to be fvcking around with doctors or whining about my goddamn lumbago.

Favorite gym activity is just a simple HIIT-type workout. Yesterday was about a 25 minute deal rotating between burpees, dumbbell clean and press, kettlebell squats, etc. When I add that in after a run I feel amazing.

Running 20 miles in the morning with my Saturday 5:20am crew. Best day of the week.
I run 7 and think that is far, 20 is incredible to me. The most miles I've ever gone in a day between running and walking is 14. I have a lot of days over 10. I do know every time I get over 10 between running and walking or just walking, it seems endorphins start to release.

What does a dead man need with healthy knees? Yeah he's dead but damn he had nice knees.

One of my favorite new diet hacks, is ordering a vegetable platter every week we do our grocery order. Sounds silly, but it finds its way into the snack rotation every day until it's gone. You could just order the vegetables on their own and save a few bucks.. but I often forget, the vegetables sit in the fridge, etc. I just pull out the platter and down some carrots celery and broccoli with hummus, hot sauce, or the tiniest bit of ranch/blue cheese. It's been the easiest way to get in my vegetables.

Essentially, I'm not scared of death, like at ALL.

But the thought of bleeding money, in a futile attempt to avoid it aggravates the fvck out of me. It bothers me WAY more than kicking.

When I inevitably get the "bad news" that we are ALL (barring an accident/massive heart attack) going to get, I'm not screwing around with all that mess. I'm going to pull my OWN goddamn plug. In a remote area, to minimize trauma (for the person finding the body) and cleanup.

A fitting epitaph in GYERO, I think, would be: Jesus, I thought he'd never leave.

I love hummus, but it's hard to find pre-made that is any good. I've thought about just making my own.
