FIT.Y.E.R.O. (Meathead, wellness, fitness, diet, exercise) Thread

Doesn’t change the consistency or flavor much more than milk, I mostly drink mine black as I began drinking it on a construction job in the summers in high school and if you asked for sugar or cream you might as well go home for the day because it’s not going to be fun lol.

And yes, since my heart attack no more pre, still on coffee though.

But with the egg whites it makes it a little lighter (if you don’t like black which I do but enjoy a change up also) doesn’t coagulate at all.

But drinking a cup of coffee with 20g of protein is cool, I use the collagen protein in the mornings a lot of times too but actual food, egg whites, is always more efficient and bioavailable.

If I’m spoiling myself, raw honey and whole milk.

I'm still having a hard time with Cardio vs Cardio/Lifting v Lifting fat loss debate. I just don't see how lifting alone beats the combo.

The way I see it, I'm sweating MUCH earlier kn the elliptical than I am when lifting weights.

Lifting is far more fun and enjoyable to me, but you have to mix in cardio, especially as you age. I also never lift weights without my 8 minute treadmill/stepper/elliptical warm up.

You def should warm up but I rarely ever do, same for stretching…

I don’t see how lifting only would burn more fat than adding cardio too unless the muscle mass is burning that much more than cardio because they’re more developed? Idk.

I wouldn’t worry about that, I’d do what you like. Doing the same amount of either or both is going to have benefits.

I’d stick with weightlifting + cardio just for cardiopulmonary advantages.

I can only drink black coffee but I've been putting a scoop of plain collagen peptides in there for about a year now. Doesn't change the flavor and I get the benefits of stronger nails. Helps my ankle arthritis as well.

-Great list for basics anth, saving that one.

-Black coffee is the way to go. If a friend or kid wants to start drinking coffee advise them black only. They’ll for sure learn to like it or not drink it.

Tough for most people I know that are used to their triple soy, whole milk, double stevia, half almond syrup with whip from Starbucks to switch back.

That shit is literally a dessert. People starting their day with caffeine and 40g sugar and then some get a donut. Whotf said donuts were acceptable for bfast?

Starbucks to black is basically taking cake away from someone and saying here’s a rice cake, enjoy.

If you're going purely by physiques, sprinters and gymnasts are pretty much the kings and neither is known for lifting heavy weights.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure both those groups lift relatively heavy weights.

Coming out of starting blocks is pure power. You don’t get that from #135 squats.

Gymnasts need explosion which is also power. Those 5’4” dudes are some of the strongest you’ll see in a gym.

Both of those athletes, these days, are gonna be doing some form of resistance training. Listened to McCaffery's trainer the other day talk about track workouts.

The elites are just so genetically gifted is ridiculous.

Zero chance Chace is natty.

Is Clenbuterol one of his tips?
Could be, but you can get shreddy without Clen also. It’s really hard to look like that 24/365 though that’s for sure.

Lots of influencers will be at their “peak” for a few months out of the year. That’s when they’ll take 1000s of photos in 100s of outfits in different places but post them throughout the year to look like they’re always 100% on.

Who gives a rip if he puts egg whites in coffee or cracks eggs in a glass and guzzle them raw? It's a different approach to hitting macros, but to each their own. It's a much smarter dietary decision than what 3/4 of the population makes on a daily basis.

Bring something to this thread other than trolling or kick rocks.

** Have a consultation with a personal trainer tonight to review what my approach has been in the gym, diet, what nagging ailments / injuries I've had, goals and thus come up with a consistent plan to hit those goals while minimizing setbacks.

Pretty stoked and will report back on how that goes. Also kicking myself for not going this path a while back. Through my 30's it was no problem, could life / train 6 days a week and outside of normal soreness, bounce back each week, full steam ahead.

The past few years it has taken me longer to recover and coupled with still wanting to lift heavy things, brought on more setbacks.

Got my Plunge and will be wearing that out, as I've discovered with ice baths greatly alleviate my lower back inflammation.

You left out swimmers. We lifted 3x a week in high school and when I was recruited by Ohio U. (dope campus) they had a robust weight training schedule, and that was in '95. Any sport is going to incorporate resistance training these days.

Of course. At this point, the basic science on sports performance and diet is settled that some form of resistance training is going to be near universal at any reasonable level.

Anth was musing about how it doesn't make much sense that cardio would be less effective for fat loss than simply adding muscle. My suspicion is that is the bodybuilding answer (and works very well for that arena) but it does not universalize particularly well.

Also, I'm down to 177 as of this morning. My heaviest that I recorded was 191 in October last year. I travelled a ton in January so I started my New Year's Resolution Month in earnest for February. (If you're avoiding alcohol for a month, go with February! Just avoid a leap year unlike this idiot.)

Nice to have a little good progress to report.

With cardio I just love burying myself and the feeling of sweating my ass off for a couple hours. I know you can't do that over and over without compromising muscle tissue but has to be a sweet spot.

I need to look at that study a little more.

-I carry a lot of weight...240ish. Don't look it... routinely guessed <200 by people that aren't idiots. I've been sub 200 once since college... people were worried/asking Mrs Rudd how long I had been sick...if you follow.

^not paying attention to scales/charts... but I think dropping 15-20 is optimal. Nor sure how that works when lifting.

I will say, for the first time in... probably a decade, I'm not fighting a nagging injury. I have been doing minimal cardio the last 8 weeks. So, I can see the argument that lifting(under supervision) would be more productive (meaning: safer and fat loss) than moderate intense cardio added in. I'm sure I can go run a mile in 8-9 minutes. Could ride 30-50 miles on a bike. Go on a few mile hike without issue.

Just been weighing on me(literally) since I've been on this program and trying to work our what I love to do vs what is too much.

Started with the LMNT poured into water sitting beside this morning then coffee 30 minutes later or so. I’ll attempt this going forward and see how it goes.

Not an issue for you right now, but if you drank the night before, it's a godsend.

Leg day got me starving and wobbly af.

Belt Squats
Lunges
Rope Pull Throughs
Rever Hyper Machine

Got the Kardashian coming on.

Gotcha, well I don’t have to prep for alcohol anymore for better or worse… BUT I was just drinking the LMNT with my coffee in the morning.

I still think pounding 20oz water (I squeeze real not from concentrate) lemon juice in the water as well, is the way to start.

I like when they say go outside and feel the sun first thing, that’s cute if you get up at 7:30 or 8a.

I really like the flavor of LMNT. Have the grapefruit citrus and another plus the coffee package.

Ran my mile today in 9:47 which is awesome for me and the first time in years doing it, bad news was when I checked my phone my HR was at 111% of my max HR, but I felt great like I could’ve gone harder, but slowed down.
So your HR was like 200? Or was it just 11% higher than what the doc told you to do?

200?!?!?! No way bro that’s crazy. I was only at 197(literally), way safer 😉 . 11% higher than what it says my max HR should be for my weight height and age. But either way 197 is touching stupid and it pisses me off.

I went to the doctor this morning for a check up and to go over routine bloodwork. I've got a serious family history of heart disease so we always talk about that, my cholesterol, etc. I told him I'd lost a little bit of weight in the last few months and asked if I should try running instead of walking.

I shit you not --> my actual, honest-to-God American educated doctor told me that the research is becoming definitive that for longevity and general good health, a person should focus on maximizing lean muscle mass and strength. I thought about asking if he'd put it in writing so I could post it in FITYERO but I am not tasking a risk of you idiots getting access to my medical records.

So, @anthonys735 , there you go.

So this thread is 100% correct and knows as much as a general practitioner, sounds about right, they average like 5 hours in 4 years of med school in diet/healthy eating and probably less on physical exercise. Proud of your guy though, at least he mentioned it.

Mine just said “I’ll write you prescriptions for cholesterol, no one wants to hear about exercise anymore…”

Cardio doesn’t do shit for standing up off the floor or pushing yourself out of a recliner, that’s all muscle.

And the day you can’t get out of a chair by yourself means you’re going to live with your family or in a nursing home because about 1% of people can afford 24/7 care.

My gym got rid of their rings and it bummed me out. It's my favorite set up for dips.

I have a cheap set off amazon to keep around for some good outdoor calisthenics workouts. Just need a high bar at the park or a sturdy tree branch to set them up.

Gymnasts, and wrestlers.. just a different breed of fitness. They are probably at the top of my list for "doing things I never could" purely from a training and strength perspective.
I'd have to add swimmers to the list. That combo of strength and endurance, especially with such limited access to oxygen, is astonishing.
