*Edited with link* Sore loser Coach K admonishes Dylan Brooks in handshake line

My opinion-
-K is a sore loser, always has been
-His own team has a punk that he refused to address
-kid was celebrating after that shot because he's a kid who just dominated a team and was pumped - he wasn't just celebrating a long 3
-he didn't even celebrate that much
-k has done this before, he only does it after a loss when he needs to remind himself that he is the better coach and person
-he teaches his team to be disrespectful yearly in flopping and acting for fouls - disrespectful to other coaches, teams, and the game
-DodgerDukie - you're a fine poster, but please stay out of this one, we know how you feel
-k is a bitch and always will be
-k whining about the media pointing out he has never won in the pacific time zone, then saying ESPN is always negative about them - holy shit I almost killed myself laughing - t
his guy is a complete, narcissistic joke of a person
-k - get over yourself and understand that the world does not revolve around you

THIS IS WHY I HATE DUKE.

I saw the handshake after the game. Coach K was smiling and patted the kid on the chest. The kid was smiling, too. Is it possible that K said "You're a great player" and the next coach in line said "You don't need to showboat" and the kid got confused? Didn't look to me like anything remotely confrontational took place.

I remember 1992 cawoods last UK game, the Duke game. K came over and got on the radio with Cawood and praised our team the game and all of that. Imo it's one of the most phony things I've seen from a coach. He is a gracious winner and a terrible loser. He is a deplorable person who has very little integrity. He loses it on officials and players in bobby knight fashion. Rat face has had a very nice career but it's been one I would say win at all costs. There are skeletons that will likely appear when he slides to dementia

yea, I remember that too..........would he have done that if UK had won......of course not
Just puttin on the dog..........another way to rub it in the fans face

K has distinguished himself as an honorable man. So he probably should get a pass on this, even though he's way out of bounds AND lied at the Press Conference. Inexcusable but forgivable.

Why should he get a pass........he is already the media darling as well as the NCAA's favorite child

He is like a spoiled kid..........cries when he doesn't get his way

That's not true. In 98 he was very gracious in defeat. Praised our team and said he had no problem losing to such a great respectful group. I think he was taking a shot at UNC by doing that (they had Makhtar at the time) but still.

You would all be pissed too if you were K. The selection committee gave him his usual cakewalk seeding, and he choked on it. Now it's back to cameo appearances in the "Angry Beaver" commercials.

was it not obvious that he just threw the ball up? Don't think he was intending to make a basket so much as he was avoiding a shot clock violation
Sometimes crazy shots drop
K really needs to get a grip

You are correct in that he just threw the ball up with time running out and I think the player was surprised that it went in. Glad to see Duke get beat.

He has done this exact thing multiple times in the past. I knew what he was doing when he stopped to talk to that player in the line. He's done it before. When he loses and he thinks someone on the other team is enjoying it a little too much, he gives them a lecture in the handshake line. Can't remember exactly the team(s), probably conference games, but I've seen him do this at least two other times and he says the exact same thing... "you're too good of a player to act like that..." blah blah.

He has to do it - DONT CELEBRATE A BIG WIN, just take it in stride and act like you've been there before. He's such a tool. These are kids, celebrate the hell out of it! Damn, I despise that guy. He actually believed everything should happen on his terms the way he wants it to happen.

Coach K is a more successful, less public sex version of Coach Pitino.

Both are gracious winners and extremely sore losers. The people they have surrounded themselves with worship the ground they walk on. Neither know how to act when they don't get what they want.

He really is.

His rant at the Thurs presser after being asked about 0-4 record in sweet 16's played in Pacific time zone & now last night just shows what a baby he can be.

Don't forget his tantrum when Harrison Barnes dissed him for Williams/UNC.

Here is the most ridiculous part of it all... we all know that is Calipari had done the exact same thing, he'd get killed in the media for it, and rightfully so.

Was it disrespectful or showboating? Probably so. But was it Coach K's job to address it? No. If you were going address it, is the handshake line the place to do it? No way!

The other side of this: what if another coach had done the exact same thing to one of his players? K would come unglued.
That's what I'm thinking. How would K have felt if the coach for Florida State had grabbed Grayson Allen in the line & said "you're too good a player to be tripping people. Have some class."

That criticism would be MUCH more valid but I guarantee K would be pissed. The man is a brilliant coach but he really gets under my skin at times with his sense of entitlement.

Know it all's think they're so right that they can say whatever, because in their minds it's ok and they wouldn't be saying it if it weren't so. K can't apologize because he probably fits the bill.
Kind of like the movie" Clear and Present Danger" where the president was confronted about abandoning the mercenaries the US had hired says: "It Never Happened."

I just saw the replay. I take it back. He WAS lecturing the kid, and for him to deny it makes it worse. I hope he retires. He's coming to the Woody Hayes phase of his career.

Guess you never played the game then - many things get addressed there. It's no big deal IMO, just typical reaching to bring down a good coach, just like they said Allen "push Brooks away at the end". Anything for media coverage.

It was "no big deal" until K lied about saying. Just admit it and move on. No point in trying to play the bully at the press conference, but he did learn from the best. As others have said, he is definitely a sore loser.

This is on the heels of K whining like a little kid when the media pundits and ESPN pointed out that he was 0-4 in the Pacific Time Zone, and actually saying, with a straight face, that his Dukies are the subject of negativity on the Workd Wide Leader everytime he sees the TV? Really. Did he have the balls to say that and mean it? Does he really believe that? No Good Lord Coach, pease shut it down.

You win 5 titles, I think you earn the right to be a bit ornery sometimes.
Nah, I think he's following in his mentor's footsteps thinking there is a different set of rules for him and everyone else; the Knight Syndrome but in its earliest stages. It probably won't reach full blown status since it is only beginning to manifest itself in a much more muted way than the original source exhibited it.

Let's call it the handshake flop. He smiles and pats you on the chest (signature move) while lecturing on sportsmanship.
That rat is just showing his true colors.
Then has the nerve to lie to the media.
What. A. Rat.

Of course he believes it. Just like he believes his teams have struggled through the tournament year in and year out when truth be known, if Duke had the brackets they deserved, along with equitable treatment by the refs, he'd have 3 NC's tops.

You posted my thoughts

I would have asked Krycholsky if it would be better for me to intentionally trip players and if not, then how many games was he planning on suspending Grayson for.

He had been woofing all night. Some guys do talk too much.

Is Oregon a new western power with Altman or is this temporary? They need to get to final 4 to lay some claim to that.

The Brooks kid seems to have have handled the whole thing well and wasn't offended. Not sure why we are.

I'm just glad that the punk Allen is out. Cannot stand that kid at all.

I never understood the phrase "You're too good a player to talk smack like that." Umm, aren't the best players the ones who can talk the most smack? Bird? Jordan? Payton? Etc.

Of all the dirty things Duke players have done and said over the years, K rips another teams player for this!? They were already down 11. So 3 more wouldn't have made a difference. And, it's really not unthinkable of what crap Brooks had to hear from Duke's bench all night, not to mention how many times Allen tried to trip him.

If K wants to tell players they're too good to be doing things they shouldn't be doing, he should start with his own frickin team first!

And the Loserville slurping contrarian shows up. And no, winning does not give you the right to be "ornery", an a-hole or anything else. He needs to worry about the jerks he's got and not try the holier than thou crap with another coach's kids.

Lecturing to a winning player on sportsmanship?

It may not be dementia (I was told) but it's definitely old man cranky. These crazy kids with their rock 'n' roll and their hot rods.

All great players have someway of gaining a mental edge, whether it's smack talk etc.

But in today's climate, talking smack hurts feelings, and that is not ok. Poor little babies running around everywhere. They just happen to look like adults.
