Don't let Harris fool you the decision has been made for days

First, I wish Damien Harris the best.

And though bittersweet, I am proud that a KY kid is so highly rated to be sought after by the Bama's, OSU, and Michigans of the football elite. Would have been a powerful get for UK. Both for his onfield potential, and the message it would send to other recruits.

But how many times has this played out in "reverse" in basketball? How many 5 star players have we gotten from other states, where the in state school also had a solid shot? Quiet a few. It happens. And I bet a lot of those UK basketball 5 stars knew where they were going weeks before the big announcement. But didn't tell the home town school.

And saying he decided 6 weeks ago, is probably more of a "compliment" to Bama vs a disrespect to UK. I mean, do any of us really want a player that decided when they sat down at the table? Or to do a T Jones?

Having had some kids who played sports, and been around the recruiting game a bit... I am sure UK had a pretty good idea of late where Harris was going.

And for a 17 year old, what does decided mean anyway? He may have felt pretty good or even certain at that point he was going to Bama. But maybe Mom was still pressing him to go to UK?

I hope he has a great career at Bama, and a great career in the NFL. And as for ASBamaFan, I appreciate your reasonable banter on this thread.
First off UK has never had a 5 star PG come in and be 3rd, 4th or 5th string. Second CMS didn't contact another RB recruit til Monday or Tuesday this week. CMS was all in on H*****.

Please explain how this applies to me specifically. There is room in the world for rational, level-headed fans. I'd consider myself one of those. The vocal minority of our fan base certainly tends to embarrass the rest of us, but I don't see how that has anything to do with me specifically.
What's your point? Why are you here? Nobody cares what you think or how rational and level headed a fan you are.

So you guys are just mad he's an Alabama fan posting here? Cause he's never been a problem before today. Does it somehow emotionally hurt to see the website he's registered under after Harris committed or WTF is with the hostility?

This place is just in meltdown mode today. I get that Harris would have been huge, but if we're honest, the reason we weren't after other backs was because RB wasn't exactly a priority in this class. You go after the top in-state talent, but beyond them you address positions of need when you're as thin as we are in some places. It's why beyond Sindelar there wasn't a ton of QB chatter. Harris hurts, but it's at the position we need least, sans kicker and punter.

That's why so much of this HE COST US ANOTHER RB RECRUIT!!!!! stuff is just y'all ranting and raving at the wind. We could have been recruiting other backs if we wanted to. It wasn't as if Harris demanded he be the only target--he just chose Bama for God's sake, that clearly wasn't an issue. We may pursue others now with the scholarship that had already essentially been held for a RB, but if we wanted/needed one there would have been a wider net. No staff is that stupid.

So yeah, it sucks, but it's more for what it would have meant to the program and in the state than if he were at a position of need. Future is still bright, and it's trending upward--just not as fast as we hoped this time last week.
