Don't let Harris fool you the decision has been made for days

Dozens of posters losing their crap over a 17-year-old and I'm the one that looks like a loser? OK. I guess I'll take my chances.

I know there are a lot of factors that went into this (high school football season, other recruits in town, etc.) And I know Harris had been to most of our football games anyways. But when you showcase the school to elite football recruits during a basketball game, it's a huge concession.

Kid gets to see iron bowl on one visit and a sport he doesn't even play on another.

Did you lose your crap when a bunch 20-21 year olds lost to OSU? I'm sure you did. Were there a bunch of annoying OSU fans who popped up on your board after that win? I'm sure there were.

kid has talent. that talent has value. to get the talent and value it brings, you have to pay a price. part of the price is paid in recruiting. kid was blessed with talent and worked hard to have this chance. hard to knock him for getting all he can out of this opportunity. not like it happens everyday.

I actually didn't. I wasn't surprised, because I knew from watching all season that we weren't a great team and our defense was suspect to give up big plays, which OSU thrives on. Believe it or not, I was proud of the season we had. Still am.

A lot of UK fans were heavily invested in Harris. Bama gets 4 and 5 star recruits on a regular basis and to lose one is inconsequential to a Bama fan but for UK this a big deal. You have the best football program in America and I wish the Tide and Harris the best of luck but this one hurts.

This is really is an issue for me also. He strung it out for "his big day". I don't understand why recruits do this. When you know just get it over with & tell the other coaches that invested hours of time with you (like UK's) in respect so that they can go after another RB that's still on the table.
We get the primadonnas and diva treatment because we created it with televising this crap, recruiting websites, and ESPN giving tons of coverage. It used to be a small thing and now so many of these kids love the attention it gives them and take advantage of it. It's one of the reasons I would have no desire to coach in college. Having to kiss an 18 year old kids ass to come to your school just seems wrong.

Please explain how this applies to me specifically. There is room in the world for rational, level-headed fans. I'd consider myself one of those. The vocal minority of our fan base certainly tends to embarrass the rest of us, but I don't see how that has anything to do with me specifically.

Really? Then you must not think he's as good as advertised.

He is more highly rated than any of their RBs from Mark Ingram, forward (as far back as I looked). The closest was TJ Yeldon who was rated the 12th best player and 2nd best RB, Harris is ranked as the 11th and 1st RB... TJ carried the ball 175 times his true freshman year.

Really folks it's nothing but sour grapes to go on with the "he won't play..." crap. If he's truly a future NFL RB then he's going to play regardless of where he decided to go.

You're about to get blasted. That was 100% what UK was doing. Just like Barker last ear.

Since I guess this one is the official Be Mad at a Teenager thread, I'll bring a post from another thread over:

Some of you are really petty and sad. You sound like Louisville fans. This is big boy football. We'll keep recruiting him, and we should, because it isn't over until he signs. You can take your hurt feelings and indignant bullshit and leave the management of this program to those equipped to not react like middle schoolers. Good Lord.

The only people strung along were our fans who saw what they wanted to see. He said at some point in the process every school led, so there's nothing wrong with him coming back home and giving the other schools a chance to keep recruiting him instead of making an impulse decision while on his visit to Bama.

Whatever you feel or felt about Damien Harris is on you, not the kid. He was recruited just like every other elite player in the country. We lost. He didn't silent verbal to UK and then flip on NSD. He made the choice that was best for him after deciding not to be an early enrollee, and he did it with a month until the faxes are in.

If UK decided not to pursue any other backs, that's on them, not Harris. We had to gamble and it didn't pay off. That can sting, but it doesn't mean the kid is selfish or arrogant or an attention hog. He didn't break up with you for someone else, get a grip on yourselves.

Come on bro. You're an Alabama football fan posting on a Kentucky football message board on the day one of our home grown 5* talents pick Alabama over UK. You're probably an okay guy but you can kindly go %$!# yourself right now. Honestly. Why would any of us care to talk to you right now? Do you ever post here? Did you just decide today was the day to mosey on over here? $%#& you.

He could have told Stoops. It's not like Stoops would have ran out the door to let everybody know he was going to Bama. Coach Stoops knows how this thing goes and would have let the kid have his day today. CMS could have then began contacting other RBs over a month ago and not 3 days ago. Maybe if he had let CMS know when the decision was actually made we might have gotten an extra 6 weeks to find a replacement for him in this class.

The fact that you are here 10 minutes after harris' announcement proves that you aren't rational.

The fact that you are here attempting to lecture a fanbase that just lost the best state recruit in 20 years (and best local recruit in 40) proves that you're an idiot.

Bama maybe OL or Defensive University, but RB has not been the bread and butter since the turn of the millennium.

Ingram's been ok. Had a good year this year. Richardson's been awful. Lacy's been good. Yeldon's about to be drafted.

The fact is, every starting running back Alabama has had since 2008 has been drafted in the first three rounds of the NFL draft. You're naive if you think that's not attractive to a running back recruit. How good they do once they get there is pretty much out of Alabama's hands, isn't it?
Every single 5 star football player UK has had in its history, has been Drafted in the first 3 rounds. So really, in terms with Harris, UK is batting 100% in that regard.

Actually, it'd be nice if Bama would stop getting embarrassed by 3rd string Quarterbacks. Makes the conference look bad.

How did you feel after OSU handed you your rears?? Do you think it would've been respectful for an OSU fan to be posting on your board "at that time"? I'm sure your fanbase would've embraced them with open arms.

BTW...they really did kick your butts up between your ears. I haven't seen an Alabama defensive line get their arses kicked like that in a long time.

Guess I'm in the minority here, but welcome to the board. After the Cats, Bama is my favorite team, and has been for several decades.

By the way, the 17-year-old has 20k+ twitter followers, had a high school game broadcast on ESPN, had several thousand people stream his announcement, and has generated more clicks, both paid and public, for this and a dozen other websites, than any football recruit from this state in history.

You all come here basically every day searching for the latest morsel of news about him, some of you even pay actual money for it, tweet at him telling him to come here, organize crews to travel hours to be at his games, and then turn all sour and call him an attention hog when he goes elsewhere?

Again, look in the mirror. If you're mad and disappointed, don't project it onto the teenager who did what it was his prerogative to do.

Just curious how, after having the top recruiting class 4 of the past 5 years, you guys weren't a great team? Is Saban a better recruiter than he is a coach? Is his assistants slipping? Is Kiffin overrated and undeserving of anything more than a high school or NAIA coaching position? It just seems to have 3/4 of your roster be 4 and 5 star recruits you should dominate and the past 2 seasons you guys have had a chink in your armor.

I've already addressed this. It's on page one of this thread I believe. It was pretty bad, for sure.

This happens ALL THE TIME in recruiting, in football and b-ball. A lot of sour grapes today by a lot of pathetic message board old guys if you ask me. Those of us who want UK to keep taking steps up the chain in SEC football and big time football know how big time recruiting works. These guys owe these schools nothing until you sign on the dotted line.

The fact is, if it was the other way around, no one would have a big issue with Harris saying this. It shows some of our fans just are not ready for the big time that Stoops has headed towards. For those of us who follow recruiting nationally and big time recruiting, Harris doing what he did is no surprise.

I guess great is a relative term. We did win the SEC and go 12-2 and get into the playoff. We just, defensively, weren't a great team like we have been. I think in analyzing it now, what happened is we whiffed on back-to-back classes in our defensive backfield which made us really weak back there. We have some good young talent, so hopefully we'll be a lot better on that side next year.

But, at the end of the day, we still had a really good season. There's no shame in winning the league and getting in the playoffs. Saban's a great coach and Kiffin is very good as an OC. I thought they did amazingly good things with Blake Sims this year. We'll be back, though. I'm not too concerned about it.

I'm trying to look at this as though it were my son in this position. It would be hard to say no to Alabama, that's just the fact of the matter. It's no different than when we pull a 5 star basketball player away from his home state.

While I DO think the kid SHOULD HAVE told UK when he knew he wasn't going there a month ago....he is a kid, and kids don't always do things the way we as adults think they should.

For that matter, most adults don't do things the way other adults think they should.

I wish Harris would have just said I made my mind up last night...play the game. His being honest is causing some hostility. If this was the #1 defensive lineman in the Country I would be crushed. We are fine at RB Remember SEC football is won in the trenches.

Sir, if you were a rational, level-headed fan you would not be posting on another school's football site immediately after they have just lost out on the best in-state recruit in more than two decades to come along. A five star recruit to Alabama is just mere fodder for the machine. For UK, it was a very important and significant miss on a truly valued in-state recruit. So, please take your level headed garbage back to your own board and gloat over your over talented team that got their a$$ handed to them by an inferior Big10 team due to absolutely horrible play calling by your arrogant OC.

Let me think. First and ten from tOSU 21 yard line and how many times did Running Back U actually run the ball with the game on the line? Oh, yeah, 0. That's right. All those 5 star backs, 5 star o-linemen, rock star coaches, and you did not run the ball a single play against an OSU team that could not stop the run against anyone this year. Even Virginia Tech. Nice.

I'm beginning to think that Harris was never going to UK. I think he was just trying to appease the locals so he wouldn't go through so much crap during his senior season. I'm sure he was getting all kinds of perks as well.
Chose Michigan then decommited after they fired their OC. Then Ohio St was rumored to be involved and the real reason for the decommit. Shortly after Ohio St was the rumored favorite for a long time in his recruitment. Bama entered the picture and rumors were flying that he loved em. All the while he is now going to every UK game and now UK is rumored to be the leader and at the same time it is being rumored that he is Bama's.
Goes to the UA game and all the recruits their say they are positive that he is going to Bama and Harris is hyped when they are getting commitments from other 5 star guys.

You be the judge.

Actually you are probably the worst of the worst. You are sooooooooooo into it that you aren't content to enjoy the moment with your own fans..........you want to see the angst in the other team's fan base. Go home and have some polk salad.

We ran the ball a lot against OSU. I guess you're referring to the series after the turnover that we threw an interception on 1st down? Hey, that happens. It's football. I did think the playcalling was poor in general during the Sugar Bowl, so I agree with you on that. But I'm comfortable how we are going to use our RBs moving forward.

FWIW, we only have one 5-star offensive lineman, LT Cam Robinson.

Ohio State wasn't chopped liver, by the way. They've got some talent of their own, and they did a great job of exposing our weaknesses. Gotta give them credit, though. Not many teams were able to do what they did.
