Doesn't anyone work anymore?

Times have changes. Decades ago people didn't pay for cable, internet, cell phones for every family member, cell phone plans, most teenagers didn't have their own car. Am I missing anything?

When you add up what those items cost you can see that your parents or grandparents were able to get by with earning less.

People pay a lot more today for "necessities " than they did years ago.

Lack of impulse control started with boomers and invention of credit cards. Cascaded from there imo

Nobody in government wants to be the one who tells the American people that we cannot afford these entitlements anymore and they have to be taken away. It would be political suicide and none of these shameless hacks in government have the courage to do it and a large % of the population does not have the will to better their lives. It's taken decades from both sides of the aisle to get to this point and it seems government is now in overdrive to completely tank this country in order to have full control of "The People". Many Americans simply see no reason to try anymore when the government will just send them a check every month.

Yep. Noone has the guts to do what needs done because their political career would be over. Like Thomas sowell said "politicians only care about three things: 1) getting elected, 2) getting reelected and 3) everything else a distant third.

Get term limits and maybe things start getting fixed. Good luck with that because no way theyre going to vote against their own self interest.

I don't know. Seems like leaving Congress and joining a PAC/lobbyist group is a pretty big pay raise for most. Although, they don't directly control their income but many/most make major bank.

They do but noone leaves till they feel like their reelection is in serious jeopardy.

Very rare anyone gives up the endless no show board of director gigs, giant donations to their nonprofits (that employ virtually noone but themselves or family), etc.

There's a reason tens of millions get spent to ensure they retain a position that pays $174k annually

By 2030 half the unskilled/semi-skilled jobs will be replaced by robotics, autonomous vehicles, and IE etc. so maybe this trend will fit in well.

How can the income of those machines be taxed to redistribute to people?

And, how can the profits of the corporations be taxed if there’s no money to buy the product created by the machines?

What do you mean by that? Surely you know that they take that "meager" salary because they care about you and want to make your life better, right? The ridiculous money spent to keep them in power is to make sure they remain in office because only they can make other lives better.

We're so lucky to be alive and have the technology and privilege of the year 2021.

What other period in time could the anti-vaxxer, anti-immigrant, minority bigot, complain that poor people need to return to their minimum wage customer service jobs in a pandemic?

The Paddock always ahead of the curve.

First off, if you’ve never lived like these folks then you speak from a position of ignorance. When you live paycheck to paycheck you live in the moment. You don’t make long range plans. All you are worried about is what you need to pay this month just to keep what you have. And you will do whatever it takes to just do that. They’re not so much lazy as they are worried about paying their bills. Money coming in from any angle is their main goal. If they’re drawing UI, they may have a side gig that pays them cash money. It happens every day. Most can’t pay their bills on what these restaurants pay which a lot of times is $2.25/hour plus tips. So how many of you folks wanna go work that job?
I've lived it, I did work that job and did have a short and long term plan. At one point I was dead broke, just quit a terrible commission only job and no money for the next months rent. At that point, I told myself if I was awake, I was going to be making money. I didn't care if it was $5/hr or waiting tables at $2.25/hr and tips. I took on three jobs, waiting tables, selling jewelry at service merchandise and catering at a hotel. Once I got back on my feet and stabilized, I started shedding the jobs and got my "real job" about a year later. Even when I had that job, I waited tables on the weekend, because I had that bitter taste in my mouth and always wanted cash on hand. It still follows me to this day, 25 years later.

So I really don't feel sorry for those bitching and moaning about minimum wage and how they deserve more. They can go out and earn it and work their asses off to get better pay. I never intended to keep those jobs long term, but they were a short term gap.

So everyone who believes people ought to go back to work rather than live off government checks ad infinitum when the government is borrowing literally trillions of dollars to send them those checks are anti-vaxxers, bigots? Wow. That's quite an irrational conclusion you came to. Congrats.

Got carried away with this post, my apologies. However, I strongly disagree with your post. I worked those minimum wage jobs, and that experience along with education got me to where I am now. Your name calling and ad hominem attacks is a bad look. Yes, people need to get back to work; that does not make me an anti-vaxxer, anti-immigrant, minority bigot. I just believe in personal responsibility and contributing to society. I believe that working smart and working hard pays off.

So you're not alone then huh? Congrats on your achievement.

Slavery was outlawed and poor people have the freedom to work wherever they want, in any industry they want. Or not at all if they have the resources to survive this pandemic. So sorry you had to wait an hour for service in rural CO. That's a shame. Call Lindsey Graham's office about this travesty.
