I’ve only been following since Boyd/Lorenzen, but Brad White is the best DC of my lifetime.

Coen, although small sample size, has me more excited for our offense than ever before.

Any old timers have some better examples?

Thanks!

Blanton Collier's staff at UK.

Not old enough to remember.

This was the best UK football coaching staff in my years of following the Cats. Five Future NFL coaches were on this staff including Don Schula. Head Coach Blanton Collier was an offense genius and won a championship with the Cleveland Browns.

It was one of the best staffs in college football history.

I was a freshman at UK when Blanton Collier was fired and he then went to the Browns and won it all.

Potentially, yes but they have some work to do.

When Curry came to UK from Alabama he wanted to bring his coordinators, OC Homer Smith and DC Don Lindsey, with him as they were considered 2 of, if not the best pair in the business among the best, both well established and respected by then. Alas, Newton was too damned cheap to pay them. Smith went to UCLA where he had top offenses and Lindsey went to Arkansas where he produced top defenses. Curry ended up hiring 2 first time coordinators that were really, really bad and never recovered. People like to take shots at Curry, understandable, but CM Newton, the same CM Newton who has his name tied to UK's football facility, ham-strung Curry from the get-go.

Will withhold judgement until l see how open the HC let's the OC be. Better hope that Davis is all he's being talked up to be and the OL has a big transformation. Excited about possibilities , but proof is always in the pudding. Would love to see our TEs(including Cummings) used the way GA did theirs. Hear a lot of talk from Big Dog , but we don't see much production.

Yes our AD’s back then had no vision or concern of anything outside of basketball..
We could have started a FN dynasty but NOPE….

White may rank among the best UK has had at DC.

Most of our star OCs in the past did not stay long. Leach and Bowden come to mind. If Coen is as good as he appeared the second half of the season in 2021 and stays for a number of years, we might actually have an OC who really impacts recruiting.

This staff was before my time, but, what a collection of football brilliance, in that pic. Bill Arnsparger was a very respected defensive mind & deserves a mention, too. He was the architect of those great “Boltergeist” defenses of the mid-90s in San Diego.

Yes, these are our best coordinators.
Did they have a good staff back in 1742, probably.
But to answer the op question, they didn't have coordinators.
Also, some of those guys went on to be good pro coaches. But eh in college.
Brad white has had multiple outstanding defenses against modern offenses
And what did it take to be a good offense back then.
There were only 3 plays. Run it left, run it right, punt on 3rd down.
There was no strategy. Games were decided by who smoked the fewest cigarettes at halftime.
