I think it really is this simple...
1. He always intended to test the waters.
2. If he gets a solid first round guarantee, he will take it. That was also always the case.
3. If he gets second round feedback, I suspect he returns. Again, always the plan, imo.
I would scratch my head a bit if he stays in the draft to get picked 53rd. Other than that, I don't think any of this is the slightest bit surprising.
He was considered a second rounder at best before he came to UK. So what are people mad about? If practicing with UK improved him enough to make a few million dollars, should that upset us?
Would we have rather he stayed in high school and maybe went somewhere else next fall?
Would we have rather he went to UCONN?
Or is it just that we didn't disrupt one of the hottest teams in the country by injecting a new player in the lineup in February?
It really is amazing how many people seem upset at the idea that this kid might have "used" UK for success and the fans got nothing out of it.
Are we really that shallow? Don't answer that.
