Decision hasn’t been made according to MJ

Mitch just letting the "microwave " fans cool down a bit before he and Cal announce significant "changes" for next year that will get the program back on track, starting by announcing the players who are willing to return to UK IF CAL is the HC plus the STELLAR recruiting class that he has lined up IF CAL is the coach.....get the picture??

Keeping Cal is the easy way out for MB.
Wait till next year. If Cal doesn't improve.......................
Just wait one more year. That lifetime contract will end sooner than you think.

If that happens, then we drain Rupp.

Maybe he’s doing some due diligence and putting some feelers out , seeing who he may be able to land . That may influence his decision , at least a little bit . As bad as it’s been with Cal, getting a 4-5th choice and having a lame roster for a couple years will have people in a pretty bad way as well

Don’t do that to us.. we couldn’t take that.

I would bet the meeting goes like this. Cal, thanks for everything but we are making a break. You are done here ,how do you want to do this? And it goes from there. I am not a Mitch fan anymore but he is not stupid. UK will be fine.
I wonder if Mitch realizes his reputation is on the line with this decision. BBN already dislikes him and imagine if he screws this up.

Although I do believe he is as arrogant as Cal, he does still have connections to ALL UK programs. So I will follow what he says a little more closely than some on an IU message board or ME MAN BOY.

Also, Matt LOVES being the very first to announce something associated with UK Basketball. And it doesn't matter WHO he ticks off in doing so!!!
MJ has the inside scoop...which is...there is no scoop. Where's door cam?

Of course you're a fan of Cal, Matt. Politicians & Ambitions. Both sides of his mouth must be chapped from the talking.
A fan of Kentucky, I think he means, and that he'll support the team if Cal is back. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I read it.

The fact that Mitch hasn’t said anything says a lot in my opinion. He always issues a statement right after the season ends supporting cal. He knows the state of affairs in this state right now.

His silence tells me he’s working on moving on. Why else wouldn’t he come out and say ‘cal is our coach’?
Oh he will. He will act as sternly as he can and tell us the ship needs to change direction because it’s on the wrong course and we get to see this all over again. Cal is still Mitch’s coach. Not mine.

Or he is letting tempers cool before he makes a decision which is wise on his part.

Now is the first time that Cal being replaced is a real possibility. It may happen or it may not happen but it is on the table I think. The relationship between Cal and the fan base is beyond repair, if the administration truly believes this then he is gone but that is a big leap for Barnhart and the shot callers. I have doubts that they are ready to pull the trigger.

When Barnhart was hired, he was brought in to break up the good ole boy system, flash forward today he’s created he’s own. Barnhart should already be fired, out the door for basketball failures men’s and women’s, and poor contract negotiations…33 million reasons why Barnhart should no longer be here.

You CAN’T make a change unless you have a new coach who has accepted the position via back channeling. Just look at the angry mob after the Louisville AD right now. Mitch is probably asking candidates many of which are still coaching right now (Hurley, Drew, Otzelberger, Oates) about interest. You embarrass the school by making a change without already locking up the new guy and the AD gets fired.
With the state of the basketball program the last 5 years and the multiple issues MB has had with Cal lately, if MB does not have a viable list of candidates the he has already canvassed as to their interest in the coaching position at UK, then MB should be let go first and let the new AD handle the big boy decisions around replacing Cal.

I agree with this. Right now you have a coach. If you’re gonna change then you better have the next coach lined up. You don’t want to have 0 coaches when the portal opens back up.
This is the issue l am the most concerned with. There are NOT a ton of good choices outside 1 or 2, beyond that, Cal is still the better option. My personal opinion, is MB puts him on an”performance plan”, I already commented about what it could look like.

In the background MB accesses the coaches (current and future) and makes a non rushed decision. If by some chance, Cal figures it out. He can leave the following year on good terms legacy intact. If he fails again, then we have our pick of coaches that are significantly better then the current 2.

Not the best situation either way, but I remember the old Cal (still in there) who just got a BIG slice of humble pie.

Perhaps… just perhaps, he can make next year special and exit the “Wright” lol way. If not, we have another year and a half to do a good search.

Humble cat fan, that wants the best for the Kentucky brand.
