Decision hasn’t been made according to MJ

That "Ball-Line Defense" would have been very helpful this season!!! 😁 😁 😁

Perhaps MB is waiting for a coach, who he has on good authority will take the call, is still dancing. Thus, no sudden movements have been made.

I kind of feel like Cal returns would've been announced. I feel like so and so coach not busy dancing would've percolated already.

About the only reason for radio silence is the candidate(s) are still coaching and MB isn't a dick head so he's not going to start leaking info and messing with the team(s) still playing.
In previous years has Mitch came out with a statement by now saying he stands by Cal, I don’t recall if he has or not.

That is ridiculous on so many levels. Just to point out that Florida won the 2 titles in back to back years (06 and 07). We were a bubble team both those years. But, besides that, the SEC wasn't as tough top to bottom as it is today.
True. SEC is a much deeper conference now.

Seems to me either Mitch is hoping the heat cools off before announcing Cal is returning or he’s waiting til after the games today to contact another coach.

My only problem is the coaches I want aren’t coaching in college, except maybe Hurley.

There’s absolutely no reason for Mitch to announce that Cal is staying. The only thing to announce would be a termination.
Normally I would agree with you. But after how the last 4 seasons have ended, Mitch KNOWS that his butt is in a sling JUST AS MUCH as Cal's is. So he MUST come out and give the fan base some sort of resolution to this entire situation. And it won't be EASY on him whatever comes of it, unless Cal has another school ready to hire him NOW.

Hopefully Cal is putting out feelers to other schools to see if ANY he would approve of are willing to hire him. I HIGHLY doubt there are any out there that would. So Mitch either has to FIRE him or KEEP him.

If you believe the social media scuttlebutt Mitch really thinks highly of Scott Drew.
That one I do believe because others have said Mitch is good friends with Drew and a lot of people think he would be the pick

Kentucky rebuilds every year with a mass exodus to the NBA Draft. Next year won't be any different whether it is Cal with his 6 incoming freshmen or a new coach. The next coach can bring his current players over in the transfer portal along with transfers from other colleges to expedite the process. Plus their incoming recruits just as much as Cal does starting over with a young team year after year. I believe there is a good chance that the next coach would be able to retain the Kentucky kid Travis Perry and Reed may still even come back too.
I think a good coach at a place like can rebuild in one year with the portal. And if he's a good coach he'll likely bring a player or two with him. Perry is almost certainly a UK fan and, as such, would likely not be unhappy
with a new coach and I think the Sheppard family wouldn't be too broke up about it(how could they not feel somewhat disrespected by Wagner and Edwards starting ahead of him all year?). If Cal takes another job he
will take some of the other recruits with him but probably not all. He'd probably take Wagner and Edwards with
him and probably Thiero but the other players like Sheppard, Z, Burks, Hart would be more likely to return with a new coach(I'd rather have the latter group).

The conference just went 3-5 in its opening round. Not sure that’s tough.
True but it isn't exactly proof for anyone claiming that this year the SEC is weaker than 2003 (chosen randomly), for example. That year the SEC (not counting KY) went an overall 3 and 5 in the entire tournament. Auburn won 2 games and Florida won 1.

This year the SEC does have 4 wins so far with Bama, TAMU, and UT still playing. My point is that this is more ancedotal. I would like to see some real stats. But, 8 teams making it to the tournament does seem to show that the SEC is stronger now.

The fact that Mitch hasn’t said anything says a lot in my opinion. He always issues a statement right after the season ends supporting cal. He knows the state of affairs in this state right now.

His silence tells me he’s working on moving on. Why else wouldn’t he come out and say ‘cal is our coach’?
Mitch just letting the "microwave " fans cool down a bit before he and Cal announce significant "changes" for next year that will get the program back on track, starting by announcing the players who are willing to return to UK IF CAL is the HC plus the STELLAR recruiting class that he has lined up IF CAL is the coach.....get the picture??

Keeping Cal is the easy way out for MB.
Wait till next year. If Cal doesn't improve.......................
Just wait one more year. That lifetime contract will end sooner than you think.

He can't stay another year. UK will be dead.

You CAN’T make a change unless you have a new coach who has accepted the position via back channeling. Just look at the angry mob after the Louisville AD right now. Mitch is probably asking candidates many of which are still coaching right now (Hurley, Drew, Otzelberger, Oates) about interest. You embarrass the school by making a change without already locking up the new guy and the AD gets fired.
I agree with this. Right now you have a coach. If you’re gonna change then you better have the next coach lined up. You don’t want to have 0 coaches when the portal opens back up.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that this meeting between MB and Calipari today is basically a "change or resign' deal with Barnhart leaving it up to Calipari to decide.
The change would be a greater use of the Portal and most likely some changes with his assistants with more of a focus on defense. I know AD's rarely tell their coaches what specific changes to make but, our weaknesses are glaringly obvious.
I just don't feel there is any other reason for such a meeting. A buyout wouldn't require a sit down with the two principles. Lawyers would take care of that.

You know Calipari is in there like a used car sales man trying to sell Mitch on some bullshit goal. I hope Mitch doesn’t take him seriously and just puts an end to it. Cal has been given more then enough chances to prove his worth to Kentucky and has failed each time

Serious question: is Mitch more afraid of Cal or fans?
He doesn't owe the "fans" $33 million. So you tell me which one he's more "afraid" of???

I remember when the "fans" that complained about Joker just part of a "microwave society".

Mitch allows these types of situations to get SOOOOOO horrible that he is basically FORCED to do something.

He is as big a part of this mess as Cal is. So unless he can come up with that $33 million or find Cal another coaching job that pays similar to UK, Mitch and Cal are attached at the hip.

I would bet the meeting goes like this. Cal, thanks for everything but we are making a break. You are done here ,how do you want to do this? And it goes from there. I am not a Mitch fan anymore but he is not stupid. UK will be fine.
