Dear 40-0 crowd, as I said... MINIMUM of 6 losses in SEC play.

We need to understand our team is soft on the interior and will get pushed around. They will hopefully have figured things out by NCAA tournament play but we are going to lose a minimum of 6 SEC conference games and possibly as many as 10.

We tried to discuss this previously but the 40-0 crowd whined and ruined the entire discussion. We need to be prepared for some rough days ahead and not fall completely apart when the losses start stacking up.

Completely fine with a regular season loss after last year.

There are only six games that matter and they come at the end of March and beginning of April.

6 losses might be a little over the top. This is a true road game which UK does not play many of so you can't expect to win them all. This isn't last year. I could see 14-4 in the SEC this year.

I think 6 losses in SEC play is too many. That would put us somewhere close to 10 on the season and I think that's much more than what we will have. I could see 4-6 losses TOTAL though.

We're making a sorry UCLA team look like the Lakers. This after making Plumlee look like Bill Walton. We are paper thin on the interior and the SEC is physical basketball. Going to be rough and the 40-0 sunshine pumpers from The Paddock have built up unrealistic expectations. We had better be ready for a rough spring that will hopefully right itself in time for the NCAA tournament.

We see a different team. Only 6 losses in SEC play would be great for this team... it will more than likely be closer to 10. UCLA and... (lol) Duke's physical play made us look soft... wait till we're on a SEC road game.

Just way too soft. Softest Kentucky team I've ever seen. Softer than the Noel team. Need to breakout the pads and football helmets. Maybe even pop tarts.

I started a thread about 40 and 0. But can't find it now. Guess I ain't in the dam click here even though I been a Ky fan longer than some of y'all been alive. Still funny about dumassess that keeps on predicting 40-0. Please quit being stupid y'all.

We are a top 20 team but not a not 15 team. A lot like the Noel Goodwin team. Not physical inside and not great shooters
We're playing the worst game of the year but not a top 15 team? What the hell 15 teams are better? Did you feel this way when we had full control of Duke?

Rough night, but did you notice Lee not playing? We need him.

If we were to lose a guy like him, 6 losses would be possible. With good health, I still think it's more like 3-4.

Even in the Duke game our weaknesses were obvious. As I said, we made Plumlee look like Bill Walton.

All I want is for us to be realistic about expectations so we don't totally melt down when we start dropping A LOT of games in the SEC.

Why mention Lee? That won't help the OP's obvious agenda of cursing this team into the ground, on December 3rd, to prove his point.

It's not a very attractive trait to take our first bad result and try to trot it out to prove your negative point, especially without providing context. You seem a little too giddy about our poor performance.

Of course, you could be right. But when you picked us to lose 6 conference games, were you expecting Lee not to play? Because that was a big part of the problem tonight.

So you think we will be 500 at best in the SEC? I wouldn't pat yourself on the back too much tonight with that comment.

All the 40-0 people? What like 4 of them? Talk about making a mountain of a molehole.

Let's talk about what obstacles we had in our path tonight.
  • On the road
  • Absolutely destroyed them last year
  • Flying across country
  • Lee gets injured, out
  • Ulis is still injured

This loss is not the end of the world. There are definitely positives to take away:
  • Ulis can play hurt
  • Willis can be a sparkplug...good to see
  • Briscoe is getting better and better
  • Murray can build on that 2nd half
Cats will be just fine and I still think this team will be deadly come March.

I'm just gonna go ahead and blame this loss on all the non- believers. Maybe if your faith had been stronger. Oh well. I suppose all yo nay Sayers can celebrate tonight. Congratulations.

In the end, this will only serve to toughen up our young team. 39-1. Time to get on board or get left behind!

Maybe 4-5 in conference....KU will slaughter this team in Lawrence, but I can see this team pulling a 2011 and getting hot late. Trouble is, there's no Jorts toughness inside.

Well this was bound to happen to this team sometime, although I didn't want it to be against UCLA, good lesson for the freshmen, when you are not ready to play anybody can beat you, especially after what happened last year.

Agenda... cursing... try to work in a few more buzz words.

You're the one who's writing in definitive tones three weeks into the season, regarding a team that is loaded with freshmen, under a coach who has a history of building freshmen up as the season progresses.

You made no mention of comparing these guys to the '11 or '14 teams, but you did compare them to the '13 team. Why choose that slant unless you have an agenda of proving how horrible you think this team will be?

I have an "agenda" of talking about Kentucky on a Kentucky board, but keep hoisting up buzz words, twinkie, maybe you'll get a mod to bite.

Did you hit your head?
I saw maybe 1-2 posters (who were probably trolls) say we could go undefeated/

It was 4 - 6 supposed UK fans baiting other UK fans. They were trying to stretch out that thread then they'd run back to the d leaguer thread and giggle like a bunch of punk kids. They'll be making fun of this too, getting their giggle on after a UK loss. Pretty much UL class humor.

Every team that has a coach who has at least two functioning brain cells is going to pack the paint on UK. We're not only soft on the defensive end, but offensively also. We are simply too "thin", and by that I mean our bigs, sans Poy and Issac, are rail thin and weak.

Poy is what he was when he signed with us: a tremendous athletic specimen who has little true basketball skills. He simply doesn't give us much while he's on the court. I love the kid, but a basketball player he's not.

I don't know, I suppose I'm like everyone else, frustrated, not just by the loss, but the realization that Alford has given all other teams the blueprint to defeat us. Our three very good guards are hamstrung from driving to the paint, for all intents and purposes, and our offensive rebounding is atrocious.

I realize it's early in the season, but Poy isn't going to suddenly blossom into a basketball player, and Skal isn't going to suddenly beef up and gain that extra strength we so desperately need.

This team will only go as far as Tyler, Briscoe and Murray can take us, again, IMHO.

Need to shift to a 3 point shooting team. We have the players to put them up. Make the 3 the first option. Any guard that passes up an open look comes out. No threes from Poy. Let the big fellas know if they want points they're going to have to earn them on the boards because our guards are going to be putting it up along with Willis.

The good news is I don't think another team can hit the shoots UCLA did tonight. Seriously they made everything.

The bad news is we are soft. We can't guard and I can't think of a softer Kentucky team ever in my life.

Can't score on half court sets and the name of the game is to score.

Thought Cal would learn from the Championship loss to Uconn and the Wis loss last year that we have to work on half court offense.

Dribble drive all the time isn't going to work with this bunch. Need to start jacking it up. Murray should be shooting 15 threes a game minimum, every game. Willis passes up open looks then he sits. He passed up 3-4 looks tonight.

All our guards look hesitant to take threes because they think they are supposed to dribble drive every possession. That is killing our shooting, IMO.

You really think we're going to lose 10 games in a conference where most of the teams can't walk and chew gum at the same time? Literally the only team besides us thats worth a shit is vanderbilt. Get off the ledge, or go ahead and jump. We lost our first true road game, with a young team, with our best big man out for the game and with our point guard not being able to extend his right arm. My god some of the people that post on this board infuriate me.

You keep talking like that then I am going to respond and it is not going to be pleasant.

Glad someone else sees it that way also. It's obvious we're not going to be able to "dribble drive" on every team, hell, maybe all of them after tonight. I know if I was a coach who had to prepare for UK I'd follow the game plan tonight ad dare UK to beat me from the outside.

Exactly. When we start killing people from 3 they will loosen up. This team can shoot the 3 ball and we should be doing a lot more of it. We should have just killed UCLA tonight from 3 and would have if we would have came into the game or adjusted earlier.

Also got to ensure the right people are taking the threes. Murray needs a ton more 3 pt looks. Willis should be benched immediately if he passes one up.

I don't know if I agree with the statements that we should have killed UCLA just now in this game. This was a road loss that will happen a couple of more times. Most teams have lost and UCLA is not the same UCLA team from last year. They have Parker and Welsh underneath and nice guard play from Alford, Holiday, and Hamilton. We just traveled across the country with Ulis not 100%, Lee out most of the game, and this was the first true road game of the season. We will be fine and will get better just like most of Coach Cal's teams before March Madness. We need Skal to get tougher underneath and we have to convert our layups that were mostly missed in 1st half by POY and Skal. We missed too many close in shots and layups tonight. Cal will use this defeat to make us better as we continue to play before SEC Play. Murray and Briscoe was looking so much better in the latter part of 2nd half. Ulis will be better from this shoulder injury and Lee won't be out most of the game. Need Skal to be stronger underneath and we will be fine.
