D-League

Good morning and Happy New Year from ATX. Currently 42°F and clear. Expecting a high of 59°F.

Missed game yesterday. Fell asleep in the chair. Glad Cats won. Gators coming to town.

Plan on cooking + hitting up grocery store after while. Black-eyed peas, cabbage and pork.

Happy Hump Day.

I’m out for my first walk of the year. I just saw a grouping of ten White Tail deer cantering past. It seems odd to me for so many deer to cluster together, but I guess their behavior has changed with no predators and people all around.

I worked at the "atomic plant" west of Paducah for 12 years. During hunting season, seeing groups of 20 or 30 deer huddled beside the plant perimeter fence was common. They knew they wouldn't get shot at there.

To me, all those deer together shows why hunting them is a good thing. Not that I’m a hunter.

While I was working at the atomic plant, a guy was hunting near there. It was raining and he was wearing a trash bag for hunting/rain gear. A teenage boy shot him through the heart with an arrow. They found numerous empty beer cans around the deceased body.

Good morning folks.

Feeling sad for the families of the terrorist attack in New Orleans. I guess the sick, lunatic adherents of that perverse religion are just going to be a plague that erupts every now and then forever. I made a number of Muslim friends during my many, many trips to that part of the world for two decades, but I also saw enough about the religion to know that even more than others it cause violent derangement. And yeah, I know it is "complicated" and I don't want to turn this into the political thread. Just expressing my sorrow for the mostly young lives lost for nothing.

Took a break from work yesterday to watch the last half of Texas, Arizona State, expecting a blow-out. What an entertaining finish. I started out rooting for the SEC, came around to pulling for ASU, but then was relieved when Texas held on.

Back to work. Hope it is a good day for all.

Good morning all,

I am working from home and just did our check in...not much happening but I have so much required training I need to complete... I am thankful things are "slow"... (Only covering for about thirty people... ;)) Tomorrow looks to be slower but who knows how things go... I am thankful, have a blessed and rewarding day...

ATX, went to my sisters house yesterday for the traditional New Years day meal, she makes a dish she calls vegetable medley, it's got cabbage, potatoes, zucchini, bacon, squash and onions, also seasons it with Lowery's. One of the best dishes I have ever had. I sorta like black eyed peas, but I mixed them in with this dish and it was delicious!!! I think she also fries it in a little bit of bacon grease to make it extra healthy!!!

Disappointing NCAA football playoff season. 7 out of 8 games won by double digits. 2 Big Ten teams and Notre Dame in the final 4. OSU looking like the team to beat.

Side note, seeds 1-4 and 9-12 are 0-8. Seeds 5-8 are 8-0. Screw expanding the playoffs to 16 teams. Downsize to 8, perfect. Do what's best for the game NCAA.

Good morning folks. Getting cold in the east. We're gooing to be dealing with some freezing weather through next week.

Did a long run this morning despite a twinge I always get in my lower back when the air turns cold and dry. Feeling it as a result...

Big game for the Cats tomorrow. It'd be nice to kick the SEC season off with a win, but Florida looks to have a pretty strong team. I don't see many breathers through the beginning of March.

Pulled out the Glu Wein last night. Have 9 bottles left of the Nurnberger Markt. Supposed to get in the teens tomorrow night and for a few nights after. Will go to the Class VI sometime this upcoming week and get some more for the colder weather ahead.
