D-League

Good morning from Plant City, FL. Currently 71°F and partly cloudy. Today's high may reach 83°F.

- Cats really stunk it up vs Gamecocks. Ugh!

- COVID still kicking my ass, but I'm better. Grabbed Paxlovid last night. Makes a difference.

- May not fly home until February 4. Wife worried she'll get infected.

Wishing all a great day.

Good morning everyone.

Dad and I are headed to the lake today. We'll get some work done today while it's raining and fish tomorrow. Decent weather during the winter is our favorite time to fish. Saturday may be a washout too, but we need to get down and check on the place.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Looks like a Stephen King movie here. Dense fog advisory until noon tomorrow.
Things change quickly. Here are two pictures of my little temp/humidity gauge from January 21 and January 25. Extreme cold to extreme humidity.

Used to be what Walter Brennans character on "The Guns of Will Sonnet" would say. "No brag, just fact."

I didn't know that. Probably where my Dad got it. Dad would get about three quarters lit and about every three sentence ended with that or...I like this (Insert whatever he was talking about), Don't chew (you)... What I remember...

I used to say (still do actually) "and you can take that to the bank" or, "And that's the name of that tune". Tony Barretta. There are a few others I utter just because I either liked the character or I like the saying.

Good morning from Plant City, FL. Currently 66°F and partly cloudy. Looking at another day in the mid-80s. Just beautiful.

Feel better today. Sister in-law making Salmon tonight.

May try linking up with Willy (Gassy) tomorrow. He and his wife plan on visiting Brandon area, about 16 miles from here. I fly back Sunday.

Happy Friday, y'all.

Good morning folks. Happy Friday.

Warm, wet, even muggy in the east, compared to the week with half a foot of snow on the ground and single digit temperatures. Working from home today, after a soggy morning walk.

Thought I might be able to make a dash for Kentucky this weekend -- one of those 1,000 miles of driving for 24 hours in the Bluegrass deals -- but got too busy. I want to check in on mom as often as I can these days. Maybe next week.

Not much else besides work to concentrate on right now. Maybe a trip to a restaurant we like this weekend if we're in the mood. Hope it is an easy day for all.

Good morning all,

Regular day off, I am thankful. I am sitting in a driveway waiting to make a trip to Arlington. Hopefully uneventful....

Want to get back in time to take My Darling to dinner.

Much yet to do but I'm thankful. Have a glorious day...

Good late morning all,

Good things to come I hope.

On a sad note, a man my son grew up with in Radcliff seems to have passed away. (Thinks drugs.) He was a good looking kid.

If you've a mind, say a prayer for his family.

Howdy folks. Been tied up with a visit from one of my wife's extended family from Chicago. Lots of chatter that I can barely keep up wtih. She's off to the airport so we're going to make something out of the rest of the day.

We're heading over to the National Museum of Medicine and Science, which is about ten miles as the crow flies from where I live, but despite being in this area for 40 years and this particular spot for 23 years I've never visited.

I'm not sure what the museum is like, but one thing I know they have there that I've always wanted to see -- Daniel Sickles' leg that got shot off at Gettysburg. Sickles was a colorful character as some of you may know. Among other things he murdered the nephew of Francis Scott Key of National Anthem fame - the nephew being the US Attorney for DC at the time, and also the adulterous lover of Sickles' wife. The murder happened directly in front of the White House in front of dozens of witnesses, but Sickles got off in the first ever use of 'temporary insanity' defense in America. He went on to become a union general in the Civil War who very nearly lost the crucial battle of Gettysburg, but after having his leg shot off kept the presence of mind to get himself in front of key sympathetic reporters. He was able to turn things around so that he became a hero of the battle, instead of the guy who nearly lost the war.

That's just a couple highlights in the life of a true scoundrel. He donated his leg to the Smithsonian after Gettysburg, and it has made its way to this museum, so I hope to get a glimpse of it -- and maybe some other interesting stuff.

I hope it is an interesting day for all.

Watch the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona instead.

Bernie, I’d recommend a book called American Scoundrel by Thomas Keneally -The guy who wrote Schindler’s List. Sickles had one of those 19th Century lives that seems so full of drama as to be beyond belief, but it’s all true.

Just back from seeing his leg at the museum —and the bullet taken from Lincoln’s brain and other oddities.

They also have an exhibit there on the big medical hospital that served US troops in Balad Iraq. I was telling my wife that in March 2003 I was one of the very first Americans to reach that Iraqi base at Balad -I was embedded with the column that seized it when there was still hopes of finding WMD. From then through 2007-08 thousands of American wounded passed through there, and there was a moving tribute to medical personnel who were killed in various ways while serving there.

Thanks, ill try and remember that if I ever get free time again. We are trying to downsize our business and sell the property. We bought a new house with a huge basement and a out building to work out of. Trying to get another small building built. The house is great, but it was Amish owned and built. We tried to be nice and closed before all the modifications were complete and it has been crazy (not the Amish guy's fault). We closed in August and just got an electrician out this weekend. We come out on weekends and back to the other house and business during the week. We need to get those properties ready to sell and since the business is manufacturing and we downsized, Jan and I do all the work. Free time is a rarity right now.

I heard/watched Medevac birds take-off/land often at that hospital, 2005-2006. My respect for all parties involved only grew.

Happy with the win. The guys toughed it out but it hasn't been a great 3-game stretch. A 6-point win against a team that only has 1 win in the SEC isn't something to crow about. That sole win was only 1-point. Their 5 losses were by an average of 22-points per game. Yes Dillingham was out but Arkansas was without one of their best players too. Hate to nitpick but there are plenty of concerns right now but all are fixable. Seems like Cal is trying to tighten up the rotation and that's probably a good thing.

Good Sunday morning everyone

Made it back from the lake in time to watch the game. We only caught one decent bass....no stripers. The game....we won. Not sure what's going on with Z. The first game showed talent, but where did it go?

I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning from Orlando International Airport. Currently 71°F and cloudy. Depart in 2.5 hours for ATX.

Watched game last night. Cats put it away there at the end. Glad Reeves, Mitchell and Sheppard play for BBN. Good seeing Thero back.

Still dealing with COVID. Bah. Gonna rent a nearby room upon arrival in north Austin.

Wishing y'all a peaceful Sunday.

Hello all,

Been a rough couple days but I think I lived through it. Sickern a dog. Going to work in the morning if the Lord doesn't take me home.

This BB has been a goodun. I am thankful.... His Unc sent him that jersey, it was too small when he bought it for his son. He loves it

That boy loves strawberries. Been a while since any were worth buying. They get up past two dollars a carton they can keep them. They were over five dollars a carton for a few weeks. Got two cartons for three dollars this time... they were gooduns.

Good morning everyone

I watched the AFC game yesterday and may watch the Super Bowl. It was a fun game to watch. I just haven't watched much since the Bengals haven't went very far.

Some of you all have inspired me....I've either done cardio or lifting every day except one in the last 3 weeks. I just may be back in pretty good shape by the time I hit 60 this fall. Thanks.

This pic is located in Harlan Co. between my county (Letcher) and Bell Co. (Middlesboro). Hanging Rock, not to be confused with Hanging Rock, Ohio the speed trap of the world.

I hope everyone has a great day.
