Morning Legionnaires! Back to the regular scheduled programming already in progress now that the Holidays are over.

34° this morning with the expected high for the day in the mid 50's and moderate winds (had leftover black-eyed peas from New Years dinner last night, those winds will subside shortly). ;)

Back to the routines again. Workout this morning, walk the monster after, and then on to play Mr. Miyagi at 10:30-12:00.

You grinders be safe out there (especially you travelers using public transportation).

Austin, prayers continue, so fight the good fight and stick around for a good while longer.

God Bless you all. Amen.

Good morning folks. Cold and clear in the east.

My wife finally guilted me into taking a COVID test before traveling to Kentucky to see my sick mother, aged father and grandkids (my older daughter is visiting from KC.)

Of course, I have COVID and will have to put off the trip because even though my case is no worse than the mildest cold I ever had, it hit my wife and daughter much harder so I can't risk infecting anyone. So sick of this crap, but I recognize I need to do the right thing.

Best of luck with your treatment Austin. I hope the day treats everyone well.

Not complaining, just stating a fact...

Want a tedious job? Try backing up a computer from scratch, you've had since 2010 or so.... (I have a full backup but am individually backing up everything to ensure I have everything.)

Just received my new Dell computer today and am prepping my old computer to ready it to sell.

I will then wipe, reinstall the OS and it will be ready to sell.....

THEN, the hard part. (Turning on, updating and then reinstalling everything onto this new computer.) I am thankful but not envious of what has already begun since I got home. This is a nice looking computer though...

HA, as I am waiting for all the "stuff" to cut over to my external drive....

Good morning folks.

Cold and clear in the east. Still fighting flu-like symptoms with my COVID. Trip to Kentucky to see my ailing mother officially pushed back a week, which means I'll miss seeing my daughter and the grandkids -- this was her window before her teaching gig at Kansas U. starts again. I'll have to find a time to fly out to Kansas City for the weekend after my next Kentucky visit. And Austin to see my son. And NYC to see my wife's kin. And so on.

Not enough time...Hard to imagine in my parents' day their entire extended families lived and died in Bracken County. Not saying that was better, but it was more simple.

Not much to report as I settle into a long work day. I hope you are doing well.

Good mor/afternoon everyone.

Not much going on. I'm getting more consistent with my walking and lifting again. I got in 3 miles earlier this morning.

We have finally settled in with one church. We were waiting on the approval of a new pastor and he is arriving today. I'll be helping unload a Uhaul or two for my workout this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I hope your new Dell is better than the all in one that I bought. This is my second and last Dell computer. It won't shut down. Support explained how to get into the bios to fix it.......I wish I had a penny for every time I sat here and pecked on the key trying to get into the bios......after weeks I finally gave up........I just put it to sleep and unplug it.....

If I can assist, call me brother awf. More than happy to help if I can. I won't be home until after 5 but call me. I think you still have my email. Email me if you don't have my cell number.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 50°F and partly cloudy. Today's high may reach 63°F. Got little bit of rain overnight.

- ship some firearms tomorrow to KY. Must call today to arrange drop-off.

- Rainy Pass contacted me yesterday regarding garment repair. May escape with $30 charge. Seem like great folks.

- Reserve flight and rental car today for upcoming Germany adventure. Outbound via United. Inbound via Lufthansa. FRK -> AUS is a direct flight.

- Grab TexMex after work.

Happy Friday, y'all.

Beats the $100.00 plus dollars it takes to buy used one on Ebay. Mine is now in my truck for the winter.

Good morning D-League. A cold morning in the east. TOok a long hike and my fingers are just now unthawed enough to type.

Had one of those small life victories yesterday I know you folks will appreciate.

On the Friday before Christmas as my son was heading 60 miles to the Austin airport his car threw the engine -- total blown engine failure. This is the second time it happened in the Hyundai I bought him as a reliable college car -- the first time was four years ago when he was a college freshman driving home from Lexington the day before Thanksgiving and he got stranded in Morgantown, WVA. This time, he was able to scramble to the airport with the help of a buddy. Then he made his way back from Austin to Burnet after Christmas.

I took this on with the nearest Hyundai dealer in a town called Round Rock. The service manager was a good guy. He freely admitted it sounded like a fluke second failure of a bum engine. But he said Hyundai had become much more strict about replacing them after dealing with a huge wave of engine replacements at the time of my son's first disaster. But he promised to try.

Bottom line: I got a call yesterday: Full replacement with a brand new -- not rebuilt -- engine that apparently finally has the bugs worked out. And a free loaner car for my son until they can get that done. So we get out of it without anything lost but the hassle of nearly getting stuck along the road over Christmas.

Needless to say, after this I'm going to sign the car over to my son, and suggest he start saving up for what he really wants to drive, while using this double-lemon as a trade in. It'll always be the Thanksgiving-Christmas Drama Car to me.

Glad they treated you well. Certain model Subarus have a parasitic battery drain that can leave you stranded. Subaru is failing to stand up and do the right thing and is dealing with lawsuits. It got us twice, before I got to reading on Subaru forums. Someone suggested it had to do with a fuse for a function we do not use. We found the fuse and pulled it. So far, it seems to be working.

That's interesting Bernie. A guy has to be diligent.

When the Hyundai had the first engine failure I just assumed my then 18-year-old son had let the oil run down and treated the car like lots of kids that age would -- just drive it until it blows.

I was close just to eating the $15,000 loss and starting over. Thank goodness I had the light bulb go off and I Googled that year's Hyundai Sonata. I swiftly found dozens of posts about similar engine failures and a class action lawsuit that I referenced when dealing with the FIRST dealer in Morgantown.

So I was well armed when it happened the second time. Incredibly, the guy agreed that in a small but not insignificant number of cases, the new engines had the same flaw. He promised there hadn't been any THREE TIME losers so far. So maybe my son is getting a 2012 Hyundai with no-mileage 2024 engine. Let's hope!

I will say this: After tens of thousands of cumulative miles, including dozens of trips between Maryland and Lexington, drives all over the east coast and one trip from DC to Texas, what are the odds the first engine blows on a trip home for Thanksgiving, and the second on a trip home for Christmas? Weird.

HA, my staff was light today but I intended to buy some breakfast sausage and bacon egg and cheese crescent "biscuits" at Burger King and I had time this morning. I bought a sack. They acted like they were starved to death.. (Oh, I got a couple cheese and egg only sandwiches too just in case.) Gave me the biscuits in a Burger King grocery type paper bag with rope-handles. I may keep that bag. ;)

Good morning from ATX. Currently 39°F and partly cloudy. Today's high expected around 60°F.

- almost struck by a red-light runner yesterday morning while crossing Lamar. I'm very attentive in my old age. Driver also nearly hit another vehicle. Thank you, lord.

- paid $1,839 for round-trip flight to Germany. Trip includes cancellation insurance and seat selection. Rental car estimated around $338 for 9 days through Enterprise for an Opel Corsa. Regular gas costs $7.31/gallon or $1.90 per liter. Eff it. I'm gonna enjoy myself. Hopefully I live long enough for a 3-week trip come July.

Game Day! Cats at Gators. Tip-off at 12:30 pm. Go Cats!

Wishing all a winning Saturday.

Good morning everyone.

School starts today at 12:30. We should sure learn a lot about this team in today's game.

Fished with my BIL and another friend yesterday at a new lake. We brought home 40 crappie and a KY bass. It's the first time I've fished with someone other than Dad or wife in a long time. Filleting them in the cold (maybe rain) this morning should be interesting. I somehow got stuck with this chore. Price to pay to be in someone else's boat and my BIL's truck. lol

I hope everyone and the team has a great day.

I don't claim to be a dog trainer, but if anyone is interested, here is a few tips:
In the dog world, the leader of the pack eats first. This is an important lesson to teach your dog (when he is a pup if possible). Free feeding is a bad idea. If the dog can come and go to his food as desired, he is providing for himself in his mind. With a new dog, we take the bowl of food and place two human cookies on top of it. Before laying the bowl down for the dog, we eat our cookies while making a big deal about how good it is in front of the dog. We as leaders of the pack took our share before allowing him to eat. All members of the household should participate to let the dog know he is below the humans. If the dog seems to be accepting his status, we usually get lazy and stop after a few weeks.

In a typical day, a house dog hears numerous human voices. IE family conversations. Radio, television, etc. Very little of it applies to him, so he tends to tune out. When talking to your dog, always say his name first. That way he knows what follows will apply to him.

Do not call your dog to you to punish him. Always make his coming to you a pleasant experience. Someday you may need him to come to you immediately. Positive reinforcement is usually better anyhow.

Sounds good. Most euro countries these days have unmanned speed cameras in a lot of places. Net, be very careful with your speeds - outside autobahn limitless areas of course. Sounds like a good rental car price. Assume you have credit card(s) with no currency transaction fee.

It's amazing to be doing 75-80 on autobahn & see cars in the rear view mirror rapidly getting bigger & whoosh by.

Good morning folks. Snow flurries in tbe east. Long, cold walk this morning. Still dealing with a few minor covid symptoms but mostly just aggravated that it kept me from traveling this weekend.

Big opportunity for the Cats today. Some really good Kentucky teams - 2012, 2014, 2011 -- all lost their first true road game. I hope this year's team is ready for a crazy environment. Added pressure, though I hope the team doesn't realize this -- my Florida graduate daughter who worked in the Sports Information DIrector's office writing press releases for the basketball team as a student intern (in other words, a big fan) is celebrating her birthday today. And -- she's in Kentucky and will be among my family members during the game.

But, no such thing as omens or jinxes. The Cats just need to rebound.

Hope it is a good win for Kentucky, and you all have a good day.

Good morning all,

My Darling and I were going to case out a joint to fish at about 200 miles away as a day trip kind of thing. Packed up the car, inside readying to leave...the snow sprinkles started peppering down. Instead we went to Walmart and got some buttermilk for biscuits. (Had the whole buttermilk this time and not the reduced fat crap.) May make a pan in the morning after church.

GO CATS!!!

I bought my oldest a used Hyundai Sonata when she was in high school. Had just turned 50k miles. My daughter drove that (She abused it and was rough with it but not in this area.), the rear end nearly fell out of that car in about a year. A rear wheel locked up and some other things. I literally gave that car away (At the time I was not able to take time fighting them and getting her car fixed.) No warranty, no nothing, fought Hyundai, they laughed. (I laughed more over the years. I have bought dozens of cars but no Hyundai's...) (I had 11 vehicles on the road at that time not counting my families personal vehicles and replaced them all at one point or another but no Hyundai's... personal vehicles but no Hyundai's...) No more patronage, zilch, nope, nada, none... ;)

Other than going to my friend's Chinese Restaurant in Radcliffe we don't really eat out much. It is a habit that has carried over from our broke days........when we take our racing pigeons down the road to train them we stop at a Hardee's for their sausage/egg biscuit.....

My dogs (Goldendoodles) are almost six years old. I follow a guy trains Malonois. He just had a dog last year that got certified as a Champion. So, the point is it doesn't happen overnight. Most folks quit on their dog before it has learned. I have a female dog that would only ask out once or twice to be let out.....(we are deep sleepers0...after that she would find her a spot........which was usually the stone area in the living room..........the last time (3 1/2 years ago).........after I cleaned up and the area had dried I tossed some kibble in "her" spot........she has never again had a problem........now she licks my nose until I wake up......

When Maddie was alive, I'd take her for long walks daily. If she thought I was late, she would go get a leash, carry it to the door, then stare at me like, "Don't you know what time it is?"
