Just a bit that baseball fans may have noted, the Texas pitching coach is Mike Maddox. Mike has been the Cardinal pitching coach for several years till he quit after last season. Partly because of defense, but Cardinal pitching sucked this year.Good morning folks. A light night of trick or treating in our neighborhood. When our kids were little it was swarmed. I guess those kids all grew up together, their parents stayed put, and now the kids are few and infrequent at our door.
My son made Little Rock last night or his drive from suburban DC to Austin. Wanted to do it in a straight shot but I talked him out of it. He's back on the road as of 4:30 am. He could be in Austin by noon, where he has to pick up his federal government ID. Then out to the fisheries site. I just hope when he gets thee he has a feeling of excitement.
Looks like Texas has put a death grip on the World Series. I called Texas in five a few pages back on this thread. I may end up hitting it on the nose. As a Reds fan, it looks like the Big Red Machine's remarkable record of being the only National League team to win back-to-back World Championships in over 100 years is safe until at least November, 2025...
Hope you all have a good day.

I didn't know, so I googled. Mike was a pitching coach for the Rangers before AND after the Cards. Greg has worked different jobs for various teams, but in Feb of 23, he became a special assistant for spring training for Texas, so he joined Mike.Sir,
Are Mike and Greg at Texas together now? (I don't keep up with baseball now but it seems I read that.) Anytime brothers get together at any level is enjoyable reading to me.

Stay warm.Good morning.
Brrrrrrrr...off to sit in my tree stand to deer hunt (watch).
My thoughts a well with the 7-footers. We will have to hit some 3's at a high percentage as well as play fast against KU. Not sure Z will be ready even if cleared by that time. I hope he is none the less because he needs some game experience with this team the get into the flow so...Good morning D-League. Cool and cloudy in the east. Light jacket weather.
My son made it to the little town outside Austin, loves the surrounding country, and is thrilled to be installed in a pretty sweet house that he's allowed to rent cheap as part of the job. It's a government property but he took a video and I can reliably say its nicer than anyplace I lived after leaving home at 17, until I bought my first house at age 30. So relieved he is there and happy.
Game day today. Cats will probably struggle again early and the Rafters crew will be throwing themselves on the floor and weeping. I'll wait to panic until halftime of the Kansas game. I do wish at least one of the 7-footers would be cleared, but without them Kentucky has as much size as the Illinois team that beat Kansas in a scrimmage game last week. Just need to keep a fast pace and hit shots.
Hope it's a good day for all.
I just had one! 😄Good morning from ATX. 48°F and cloudy now. Warming to 75°F later.
Pup in a great deal of pain. Been working with her since she returned home yesterday.
Happy Friday, y'all.
I didn't see or listen to the game last night either...too early for me to make any judgements. BBN shifts more than the weather.Good morning folks. Happy Friday. Just back from walking three miles. Cold and clear in the east. I didn't get the see the game last night, but from the reports on Rafters the Cats looked a lot better. You know when the team is cooking -- there are about ten fake losers trolling over there who vanish anytime things are going well.
Got a doctor's appointment this morning so I'll wish you all a good day.
Get one for me as well! Too many long-legged rats running into cars. 😡Good morning.

I never went for the heavier bat but I wasn't a long ball slugger either...I was more of a gap hitter. But yes, bat speed is huge.BBUK, I noticed in the Frank Howard thread that you mentioned Dave Kingman and a lighter bat. Toward the end of Ernie Banks rookie season, he picked up a lighter bat and found he got more bat speed. He hit a bunch of home runs late in the season after switching bats. Sports writers asked him how a skinny guy like him could hit so many homers. He told them and that started (or at least sped up) a trend to lighter bats and more homers.
I had no concept of waiting for a good pitch to hit. No patience at the plate. I loved playing defense though.I never went for the heavier bat but I wasn't a long ball slugger either...I was more of a gap hitter. But yes, bat speed is huge.
I was a first good looking pitch I see I'm swinging kind of batter.I had no concept of waiting for a good pitch to hit. No patience at the plate. I loved playing defense though.
HOW?
Most of the bigger guys I play with use a lighter bat than me. I too am a gap hitter and push a lot of my hits to the right field so, a heavy bat helps in that area.I never went for the heavier bat but I wasn't a long ball slugger either...I was more of a gap hitter. But yes, bat speed is huge.
I already know how, I just want the opportunity.
HOW?
Me too. It would be a fun three minutes.I already know how, I just want the opportunity.
I gave up playing when I was 37. I went into business for myself and that plus coaching my daughter took up all my time. Something had to go, so it was my softball. At one time before starting the business, our team played in two leagues (4 games a week) and a tournament most weekends. Most of the bigger guys I play with use a lighter bat than me. On that subject, I have a single elimination tournament to play tomorrow in Lawton Oklahoma to end the fall season. Luckily the weather is supposed to be sunny and in the mid 70's.
Today I have to help test some karate students (12 of them) for their next level belt. Most of them from yellow to green tips but 3 of them to green (intermediate level) belts.
