My dad pronounced it vi- eeny sausage.
MIne did too. Same way. Grandpa too.

Dad would get out "Limburger" cheese to go with it. He would have dark rye bread or crackers. I would take a piece of bread and dip it in the can to soak up the juice.

When I was a boy I could live off of the juice from a can of vienna sausages. I still drink it when I open a can, which I do often

Happy Thanksgiving all. Doesn’t seem like it here today as we aren’t doing our meal until Saturday. My wife is cleaning house and I’m busting wood, getting enough ready for our fireplace this weekend. It’s always our tradition to sit in front of the fireplace after we’ve eaten and have a few drinks. Hope everyone is doing well.

I had an epiphany
Was feeling very selfish and down about Thanksgiving because for the first time ever I won’t get to be with Mom and the siblings.
But thinking about it I realized ...it’s not about a big crazy family gathering. It’s about being thankful for what we have. And we are truly blessed
So, my fiends..I’m thankful to know you all and pray that you and yours are healthy and happy
Much love
It couldn't have been said any better. Hi, Beverly.

Question for the D League

Do any of you know of or have you used an online book publisher?

This week the Clearwater, Florida Historical Society contacted me inquiring if I would donate many historical photos I have of life in the pioneer days. They also wanted other things I have such as post cards, letters written in the late 1800's and early 1900's between my grandparents. Due to my family interest, I doubt I will give them originals but I may give copies. I might give them some originals.

My wife has been after me since the day I retired to write a book or journal and include the old photos, etc. and have it published for the kids and family. I am not interested in making the book available to the public because I doubt anyone would care about pioneer life in Clearwater, Florida. But the family is and it may be a good adventure.

If you have used a service that will take a manuscript and bind it into a book I would like some feedback. Who would you recommend and what was your experience with them.

Thanks D League

No clue about publishing, but I have the same with my wife's family. Living in a historical home where she is 5th generation to live in it, I have over the years found all kinds of documents and photos packed away in the basement, root cellar, and attic of one of our rental properties. Some as far back as 1860s.
But I'm too lazy to catalog, prioritize, and put in book/journal form. But I do enjoy reading and looking at them just wondering what life was like back then. All the people, events, etc that have happened in this house/on this property years past.

Hi Don 😊
So I was talking to my Mom and telling her about the D League. She’s interested and curious so next time I see her gonna get her set up to read and maybe post every now and then. She’s never done the message board thing, but I figure this is a good safe place for her to start
I know you’ll make her welcome

Yes that is basically what I plan on doing. I have the photos and documents cataloged and it should be fairly easy to write the events or stories they represented. One such document is a Homestead certificate granting 80 acres of land to my g-grandfather, Luther Lewis (L.L.) Blanton in Clearwater. The President of the US was Chester A Arthur and it was granted in 1882. There is an interesting story behind this and it just an example of things I can include in a family history. This photocopy is poor but the original is readable and can probably be duplicated a little better than this copy.

Tell her to come in anytime. We will.

Do it. She would be welcomed. We're just headed-for senility harmless old farts who have been there, done that.

There you go...that's what its all about!

Going to a granddaughter's house today for dinner. Makes it easier on the wife. All she has to take along are the sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and two dressings.

We were supposed to go there last year but her "fiance" (that seems to be what people who shack up nowadays call one another) got drunk and got mad at her over something and threw the turkey out the window, trashed the house and ended up getting hauled off to jail. I don't know why but the dinner got cancelled. Other than that the day went OK.

Hoping for better results this year but the dinner is still a few hours away so who knows. Should be interesting.

Signed, the Eternal Optimist.

This would make a great country song.

That is some funny stuff there Chief, unless I suppose you are a part of the family. But for the rest of us. :) :) Only in Arizona. LOL Where is Wyatt Earp when you need him. Keep that shooting in your yard. Don't bring it out in the road.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family. They keep it real.

Just got back from visiting my folks. No way was I missing a Thanksgiving without my heroes. They're playing it safe this year as expected. Ol' Dad put me to work as soon as I got through the door. No surprise there. Patio furniture put away, wreaths hung on windows, Christmas trees assembled and decorated, mole worms inserted in ground, miscellaneous holes filled in with dirt, etc.. Love that man! Mom just as much.

Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country & western song
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was not the perfect country & western song
Because he hadn't said anything at all about mama
Or trains, or trucks, or prison, or getting' drunk

*Dang near perfect except for the missing truck and trains.

Spent many a night with my drinking pals singing that back before I got hitched. Good memories.

Update: I mentioned that weirdly neither my wife nor I had ever cooked a turkey.

Well, joint effort one was a big success - moist, delicious, perfect texture. Turns out any two fools can cook a turkey. That Chevy Chase Christmas movie had me nervous for no reason.

I hope everyone else had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Anybody else miserable right about now?

Naw Sir,
We had take in from Bob Evans this year. It was a first but we are all strung out half-way sick. Food wasn't bad but just not the same... Oh well, we all are still kicking so far and that's a good thing.

I need a Yuengling in the worst way but am too nonchalant to care much. Have to work tomorrow but it will be a real light day as most will be off. Just some catch up stuff.
