"Don't look back" because I have "More then a feeling" that we will be "Smokin" this year.
Oh yeah!

We’re not having a traditional Thanksgiving meal
All plans have been canceled..we were planning a small gathering of the family that gets together regularly (minimum once per week)
Well found out yesterday that my youngest brother was just diagnosed with COVID, and the other brother and his wife spent the day with him on Sunday so now has to quarantine until he can get tested on Saturday
Mom says it wouldn’t be right for me to come over if we couldn’t all be there
Besides, youngest bro does the turkey and dressing and other bro does the potatoes, gravy and green beans.
ah well

Rooster, you have a terrific memory. He is, all over central and western Kentucky, and he took a second job as a warehouse hand. We can't get him to stop working to come home for Thanksgiving, but he'll be here over the weekend. He gets more satisfaction out of accomplishing physical work that the more abstract classroom studies. I get that - I worked pipeline jobs in the summers when I was his age and preferred that to college classes.

He carries himself more like a young man and no longer like a boy now, which is good to see.
Just curious. What inside info can you give us about life at UK during Covid? How is your son dealing with it?

82 - I suppose every kid is different. My son hates the online, virtual classes. He claims he’s doing okay, but not enjoying that part of it. He was never a big partier, so he still sees his friends and a couple casual girlfriends. He’s into his two jobs and puts most of his energy into that.
We walked around campus a couple times during my recent visit. It was like a ghost town - saw very few people during what would have been bustling times. Ate at Joe Bologna’s, it was almost empty at noon on a Friday. All in all, rather grim, but we’re all going through different times. College years should be a great memory, so I feel bad for this generation.

Happy T-day folks. I hope each of you makes something good out of it.

We’ll do fine here in Maryland. My daughter is in from Austin. My son is heading in from Lexington. My other daughter is pregnant with my second grandchild and first grandson in Kansas City, so her family is staying put, but we’ll have a Skype chat.

Stay safe, and wait for the big, traditional day next year. That’s our plan, while enjoying today.

A little hack for anyone that has a Kitchen-aid stand mixer. As you know they are heavy and hard to move. Mrs. M had trouble moving hers on the kitchen counter, so I took a piece of poster board, set the mixer on top of the poster board, traced around it, cut it out and set it back on it, she can slide it where ever she wants easily!!!

She ask me a question, I didn't answer, she hollered and said I want Askew again!!!! Sorry D!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING LEGIONNAIRES!

Prayers going out to those who are ailing or sick. May God Bless you all and make this day special regardless of all of the problems of this day/year.

Wife and daughter worked and prepared food all day yesterday while I cleaned the house (mostly). Finishing up this morning as her mother, brother, and my friend will be joining us around 1. 6 people and 7 animals. I got to get that evened out one of these days.

Well, this one ought to be "Toppin" the list of corny post today. 😉

Good Thanksgiving Morning

We have a bright sunny morning 60º down here with no active alerts in the Gulf. We are headed to 81º by mid afternoon. No rain and the UV index is O.

I woke up to the smell of coffee and bacon frying, another Thanksgiving tradition at our house. The preparation of today's meal started yesterday and it should be another good one.

I trust all are well and if you have the COVID you are clearing up quick and back on your feet. We all have so much to be thankful for, especially with our family and friends. God has blessed.

Cooking a goose this Turkey Day (Dickensian). It's prepped and in the fridge. Hopefully a success with crispy skin tomorrow.
Have never tried to cook a goose. Years ago we did a duck for New Years. Ugh! We probably did it wrong 'cause we didn't know what we were doing. Turned out very greasy.
Sure your goose will be much, much better. Enjoy.

Every Thanksgiving, and I mean every single one, I think of when I was a kid and teenager, waking up Thanksgiving morning to the smell of a turkey cooking in the oven with all the other fixins' being prepared. Good memories.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!! Hope you have a restful, peaceful, thankful..Thanksgiving.
A time to give thanks for all our blessings. And for me and others the blessings are bountiful.

Both duck and goose are fatty and if you don't prick the skin all over the fat has nowhere to go. It can get really greasy if the fat isn't rendered.

Here’s a T-Day piece of embarrassing confession: My wife is in her 50s and I’m in my 60s and neither of us has ever cooked a turkey!

How’s that possible? She grew up in a large family with parents and grandparents who liked to cook. So did I. For more than 25 years, beginning right after we were married, we went to Kentucky for Thanksgiving and we’d arrive to a meal prepared by my mother and sister and aunts.

So, a later in life adventure!

I feel bad for them too but kids adapt. It must be tough not being able to attend basketball/football games. I'm assuming that the few tickets sold go to big donors and not students.

Congrats on the upcoming grandkid!

Thanks, 82. I’m grateful my son has his work - he runs a moving crew on weekends that goes all over KY from Lex, and works as a loader in a warehouse on weeknights. That keeps him busy and feeling productive.

The grandchild is a real blessing at the right time - my daughter’s husband lost a 35-year old brother to an unexpected sudden death this summer, so they needed some joy in their lives.

I saw my primary doc last Monday and he gave me the go ahead to get back into the pool. The incision has healed and all is safe. Another little Thanksgiving tradition at my house is to go swimming in the morning or early afternoon before the BIG meal. The pool looks inviting and I am going to jump in and enjoy.

The air temperature is 73 now but the pool temperature is set at 85 degrees. A clear sky, bright sun and a warm dip is good for the soul

I had an epiphany
Was feeling very selfish and down about Thanksgiving because for the first time ever I won’t get to be with Mom and the siblings.
But thinking about it I realized ...it’s not about a big crazy family gathering. It’s about being thankful for what we have. And we are truly blessed
So, my fiends..I’m thankful to know you all and pray that you and yours are healthy and happy
Much love
