We expect more than this!
How is the shanty? Is you coffee good or bad?
Fess up.
Oh a lot better on the second try.
Getting a little cranky and demanding in your old age are ya.
Usual at the shanty. Never ending to do list. And the coffee is always good at the shanty, just sipping away as we ride that pale blue dot.![]()
I had a 63 Chevy 409. I played games with it by betting a passenger I could put a $1 bill on the dash and they couldn't take it off as I started from a stop. I got pulled over once by a Lexington cop for starting to fast from the stop. It took my last penny to pay the fine.In my book, the best Chevy ever was one year earlier.
We all probably had a car when we were young we would like to have today. When I was a student at UK I had this 1956 Ford 2dr Victoria hardtop. I bought it for $500 cash on the barrel head in 1962. . A great little car for a college boy. And it was fast

Good news about Ymmot, will he come back under the same user name? Let him know he is sorely missed. You guys have me going.
Old cars date us. Food is one of the best subjects going.
I talked to Ymmot and he is soon to be back on. I talked to him today and Rooster talked to him yesterday. He is ready to come back but he has been very busy.
I hope to see Ymmot soon on the D-League. But you all pray for me because he may be coming to see me soon!![]()
I couldn't be picky when I was a kid. I had to drive what I could afford and what was available. A Skyliner would probably cost me another $100 bucks and I had to buy my chemistry books.I would take it if forced to - but it is not a Skyliner

While we are telling old war stories here is a good one about my 56 Chevy. I was getting a hair cut one day and overheard the barber talking to a customer about a 90 year old man who came in for haircuts. Because of his age, he had to give up his drivers license. The customer asked what was he going to do with the old chevy. My ears pricked up and I asked where the old man lived. My barber told me a few blocks away. Go down the street, turn right and go another two blocks and you will see his car in the driveway.
So after my haircut I drove down there and went to the door. I asked him about the car and he said he didn't need it and had it up for sale for $250. I told him to wait right there while I went to the bank, I withdrew $250 and bought me a 56 Chevy. He bought the car brand new and when I bought it in (1973) it had less than 8,000 miles on it. He had every repair bill, oil change receipt and every license tag.. In those days you got a new tag every year. The old man said the car had never been driven more than 50 miles from his home.
About 5 years later a man who owned a very large TV / electronics store in town said he wanted to buy it for his wife. I drove it all over town and his wife saw it all the time. I said it was not for sale. Meanwhile I had four cars and two small children and my wife was on me to get rid of some of them. Each time I went in the store he asked me about the 56 Chevy and said his wife demanded he buy it for her. One day I was driving home and thought I was being followed. I pulled into my driveway and this car pulled in behind me. He got out and said I want to buy your chevy and will not leave until you sell it. Four cars really were too many so I broke down and sold it. When his wife drove it out of the driveway I think a little tear dropped from the corner of my eye. But I ain't admitting it.

Little bit of a similar story. My first car was a '56 Chevy. The old couple next to us owned it. He was a retired exec from General Motors so it had a few things to it that standard ones didn't as I recall. Basically was only driven to the grocery and church. So Dad bought it for me. Immaculate car inside and out. Hardly any mileage. Wish to this day that I still had it.I had a 63 Chevy 409. I played games with it by betting a passenger I could put a $1 bill on the dash and they couldn't take it off as I started from a stop. I got pulled over once by a Lexington cop for starting to fast from the stop. It took my last penny to pay the fine.

Just don't get some parents (Moms) these days. Fix a meal and if one of the kids don't like it, then they fix something entirely different and special for the one. When I first met my ex-wife her Mom was like that. Would always fix something different for her brother 'cause he would always seem to not like what was on the table. My parents were the same way Bert. You either ate what they fixed or you went hungry. You learned real fast not to be picky, as hearing your stomach growl wasn't much fun.
Having 3 urchins , I had to remind them my house was not a democracy.Just don't get some parents
It is a cool 65.3°F on our way to a sunny 72°. Contrary to Catfaninsc good rain we got nuttin' and we have no chance of rain until next Tuesday.
On food: I grew up on a farm on the edge of Park City, KY. Our house was on 3rd street. Our victory garden was about 3 acres and that did not count the corn patch. We grew our own beef, pork and chickens. Mom and aunts and uncles put up hundreds of jars of veggies and we had a big 23 cu.ft. freezer for meats and fruits. Dad salted down the hams and bacon in the smoke house. We had pear, apple and peach trees in the barn yard along with briar patches full of blackberries. In May dad would get bags of dry land fish and poke, dandelion et.al. The domestic meats were supplemented with frog legs, cat fish, rabbits, squirrels and quail (my 8th birthday gift was a shotgun). The king and queen of England's diet was far less than ours and I will bet it did not taste half as good as moms.
Also mom did not ask us what we wanted to eat, we ate what she fixed and I was one of those 5'11" 130 pounder that went back for seconds and thirds. My sister was a skinny 5'7" girl that could eat someone out of house and home. Every morning I ate 10 biscuits to go with gravy, bacon or sausage or ham along with three or four eggs. Dad specialized in the meat cooking and gravy and mom did the eggs and biscuits. By lunch I would be starving. I never knew what hungry was, but I also knew how to hoe tobacco, pick corn, bail hay, plow ground etc.
No kid ever had a better childhood than Bert.
I remember when you could pick up a used what-is-now classic Corvette for a few hundred dollars.
he indicated today it would be ymmot; however, if the guys at Rivals don't cooperate it may not be ymmot.Good news about Ymmot, will he come back under the same user name? Let him know he is sorely missed.
We'll take him regardless of the name. It would be great to have him back.he indicated today it would be ymmot; however, if the guys at Rivals don't cooperate it may not be ymmot.
I tried to come up with something clever using those letters but I couldn't. Not enough vowels.MMOTY?
My wife is the same way with our kids. If they had to eat back in my childhood days, they'd starve.Just don't get some parents (Moms) these days. The current Mrs. is like that to a degree. Will always do something special if someone doesn't like what prepared....but she's like that in her complete life...most giving person I've ever met.
Me....if dinners prepared and one of my kids don't like it....tough.....eat what's on the table, go hungry, or go get some take out.
That's great news about Ymmot. It'll be nice to have him back again.he indicated today it would be ymmot; however, if the guys at Rivals don't cooperate it may not be ymmot.
I've been banned on the political board....what pussies
You're not a liar when you shoot first. Reckless for sure but that's one lesson for us all.guess they made me out a liar, cause now I can post...Hmmm
Does CNN run this site? Are we not allowed to voice our amendment rites?

Here's the 5th car I owned. BMW 2500. 6 cyl. Paid $365 for it. Photo taken summer '84 at a parking garage in London, England. Buddy of mine standing next to it.I got mom and dad's hand me down '55 Chevy Bel Aire 8 cylinder. Oh I wish I had it today, except it was four door instead of a hard top.
Nice, enjoy. We have some nice rivers next to me to explore. Fishing good too.
That bird must have been the tour guide. Manatees were cool too.
You are right. Can't believe it's a little after 8 a.m. EDT and nobody has posted temperatures, forecasts, how the coffee's perking.
So.....getting chilly in Ohio. Down in the 40s at night.
Love this time of year...cool nights and fairly warm days. But it won't last long North of the Mason-Dixon.
On my second cup of coffee, so it must have perked OK.

Yeah it was 46 when I walked our dog this morning. I wore my usual short sleeves and pants and just about froze. Too stubborn to go back and put on appropriate clothing because technically it's still summer. At least it'll be pleasant weather for sealing my folks driveway today. Can't believe it's a little after 8 a.m. EDT and nobody has posted temperatures, forecasts, how the coffee's perking.

53.8°F on its way to a whopping 71° under a deep blue sky.Berts weather report at the shanty. 67° heading to 72° with sunshine. Out door chores on the docket for the day.
Nice. My little brother in FL also owns a fishing kayak which includes pedals. Love those things. He's fished down in the FL Keys with his boat. Enjoy and stay safe.
