D-League

Well, here's the report: many strikes today which was encouraging and I hooked 6 but only landed 3. One of the ones that got away went airborne on me and it was a good one. It came way out of the water and dislodged the hook while in the air (Bastige). Used the Whopper Plopper early for top water and had 4 strikes but no hooks. Some of the other strikes were as I was trying to take the slack out of the braided line. Still adjusting to the difference in feel. The biggest of the three I landed is pictured below. 3 1/2- 4 lbs is my guess. picture on tailgate gives some scale as it was as long as my tailgate.

Sir,
John Wayne told Bruce Dern that the public would hate him for killing John Wayne's character in that movie. Bruce Dern career suffered horribly due to that movie. Bruce Dern was a person who played a bad guy about as good as you could ever play a bad guy but that sure did hurt his career.

The thing is, it is hard to feel bad about anyone who did that to John Wayne. I did hurt that his career suffered. He would have been some sort of box office draw without the "Cowboys" on his resume...

He made it well as an actor but man how he could have done so much more...

Played a bad guy opposite Clint Eastwood too, in Hang em High. He played the part of a bad guy, really well. I do remember a comedy he played in, The Burbs, with Tom Hanks.

John Wayne IS Americana.... That word was created for him....

Has nothing to do with what anyone thinks of his acting or abilities. He lived America it seems better than anyone I can imagine. It is what he portrayed best. jmuo

I don't worship him but I am sure thankful for him. He gives an example to being and living as an American.

An aside; (Means nothing) He died the day I graduated High School.

Stopped and saw his childhood home, in Winterset, Iowa, when we toured out west, 3 years ago.

We watched Smokey and the Bandit I last night. Great feel-good flick. Watching Smokey and the Bandit II now. Too damn cheesy. My first time viewing. Ugh!

Labor Day weekend, gents.

Lotsa needed rain today in ATX today. Our high reached 83°F. Loving it.

Checked in a couple times with folks back in KY and TN. Missing home.

Thanks to all that welcomed me back. It’s been a long hard summer. As for watching tv, I’ve become a golf nut. About the only sport I watch anymore, which is odd considering I’m a die hard UK fan. As for the golf, I’m a big JT fan since he is a Kentucky boy, and I like his style, old fashioned swing but built in power for a little guy. Trying to get back into golf myself but work on the farm is holding me back for now. Maybe in a couple months!

Good Saturday morning D League

Looking forward to a pleasant day with temperatures 73° to 89° and plenty of sunshine. We have a 20% chance of rain. Not much on the agenda. My wife will head down to Tarpon Springs for her hair appointment. The lady who does her hair was best friends with my daughter during childhood. My daughter will drive down from Ocala to join them. This will free me up most of the day.

Tarpon Springs is a neat little town with a history of Greek culture. The Greeks arrived in the early 1900's and set up a sponge diving industry. They have a rich and very colorful culture. The Sponge Docks are a great place to hang out and the food is as good as it gets, Greek and Florida seafood.

Nice fish.

First time I've looked at this thread. Totally different than what I thought it was by the title....where did that come from? Anyway, looks like just a discussion board without the sniping and so forth. I'll check some more.
Yeah, we don't go for chasing those elusive little birds here.

Please come back. You get to know fellow posters a little deeper and we have a lot of fun. You would fit in perfect here

We don't do that stuff over here. If you ever want to join our oasis, just tell us your ss#, bank account # and PIN and you're in.

I tried to become a GYERO poster back about 2011 and was advised that I didn't know how to post. So I started D-League. I got some sympathy from some and D-League got started. It has been fun.

Saw your reply the other day about meeting David Barton. Didn't know you use to live in Cumming. Believe that church was started by Dr. Lee after he left Rehoboth in Tucker. See where he's been retired for a number of years now. Always like him....very smooth, good speaker. My son just moved from Cumming about 2 months ago....went over to the Suwanee area.

My wife and I love the ocean. Trying hard to get back closer to it. South Carolina or Florida. I could use some time like you are spending. We have great parks and walking trails here but do badly miss the salt water. Fishing crabbing, digging for clams, oysters, ocean vegetation.... The food and seafood markets here are great and reasonable but we enjoyed the water and wind.

The only thing I think I ever stole was the gas it took me to drive the 15 or so miles off my route going and coming to visit that place. I was looking at those pictures yesterday. I was driving a gov during one of my trips. No way I wasn't stopping....twice. The avatar I normally use is a picture on the side of his home the sun hit just right. It is an original. I will add the avatar back once I can sit at my computer.

What a small, small world. Dr Lee started the church in a strip mall warehouse setting and may have had 60 initial members. We attended from the early beginning to the day we left Georgia to return back home to Florida.

It was the best church I have attended in my life. My Sunday School teacher was Dr. Wendell Jackson and he is the best SS teacher I have the pleasure of being taught by. His study on the Book of Revelations is outstanding and I have his class notes in a binder and refer to them often. After Dr Richard Lee retired Dr. Jackson's son Jeff became pastor. The church continues to grow and prosper. Jeff Jackson is young, smart and a caring pastor.

In addition to Christian theology and some of the best guest speakers from all over the world. The First Redeemer choir and orchestra are first class. Their pianist is Sherri Barrett who had the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York. My wife was best friends with her and sang in the choir. The choir was very special. I miss the good people of the church, the outstanding music and pastoral staff. They are the best.

Loved Smokey and the Bandit I. Can't say the same for parts 2 and 3.

When I first moved to Atlanta, my GF lived in Decatur. Her parent's subdivision pretty much backed up to a really neat hotel/motel named Old English Inn (Sawnee Cat and wildcatdonf might know of it) right on I-285 (the perimeter). They filmed several scenes for Cannonball Run there. Used to go by it (a minute from her house) and see the trucks, etc. One night her and I stopped while they were filming. Burt and Dom DeLuise were standing next to a truck having a good time laughing and joking around.

Another good movie.
Dunt, Dunt, DAAH! Captain Chaos! Of course the eye candy was good too.

Good morning from ATX. Current temp = 74°F and partly cloudy. Our high today may reach 86°F with possibly a few scattered showers. After another miserable summer, we'll definitely take it.

I slept in this morning. Looking at a few chores later after breakfast, clean-up and a walk.

Must purchase new smartphones. Our phones are 5 years old and showing wear. Sprint is our present carrier, but they merged with T-Mobile. T-Mobile offers a buy one/get one deal for Samsung Galaxy S20 5G. Definitely considering it. I might make an appointment for this weekend.

Happy Derby Day! Strange saying it in early September. We plan on watching.

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

I've got a 13-pound whole brisket that I'll be throwing on the Egg around 2 AM. Hopefully it'll be ready to pull by 8 PM but it could be as late as midnight. Cook it until it's done is the BBQ'er motto.
One of these days I'm going to try brisket on the smoker. I've read that they're not easy to do.
One of the local stores has pork shoulder on sale this week so I was thinking of doing pulled pork this weekend. They were all 20 pound plus so I changed my mind. A bit large for 3 or 4 people 😊

I've never cooked a whole shoulder, just the butt or the picnic. Might try it one day. I've had my smoker since 1999 and have cooked brisket every way possible. I've come to learn that keeping it simple is the best method. No injections or complicated rubs. The hardest part is the prep work. Certainly worth the effort though.

  • Good Morning, D-Leagueanites and Lurkers.
  • Welcome Ohio Colonel if you dare.
  • Haven't left the house this morning, so no Whitetails.
  • Kentucky Football in 21 days.
  • My old fishing buddy and I used to have this spot that was about 20-30 minutes from our neighborhood. It was 2-3 acres fed by Chicken Creek, not over 5-6 foot deep except for the levee, full of Crappie and LMB and Bluegills. Caught my first lunker there and a 3 pound Crappie one time. We had some great times there. That has only been about 40 years ago.
  • That is it from 71º Cumming.
  • Take care.
  • Carry on.

Order some Starnes BBQ sauce. It will help your smoked pork
