108° today outside luckily my retirement lunch was in the office. Director was there to present an award for Civilian service to the military of 22 years added with my 20 in the military. He talked about what he and I had in common, both retired military continuing service for the military in a civilian capacity and both are long time martial artist. When he ask me to speak after him I said that we were also both members of the KKK. There were several African Americans in there and his face went red then, I clarified with the meaning of that acronym. Karate, Kungfu, and Kicking ass. The office erupted in laughter with the brothers shaking their heads in laughter and those who have worked with me said they knew I would end it with a bang. All was good as everyone laughed and took it as intended. Below is the Army Civilian Achievement Medal awarded today.

Good Saturday morning

We have 77° outside with mostly sunny skies. But we are forecast to have rain this afternoon and the high will be 84°. 98% humidity. Things are pretty calm at the moment in the Gulf of Mexico but that could change. So we always keep our eye out. If something starts brewing it doesn't take long to get prepared because my wife has her hurricane stuff always ready and we have the type of hurricane barriers that are custom made for each opening in the house. Just put them up and screw them down. Ready to go. Trust everyone has a nice day and all are well.

Things are pretty calm at the moment in the Gulf of Mexico but that could change. So we always keep our eye out. Today's world has me greatly concerned. I fear for any conservative or Republican. Basic values and principles are now considered racist.

I don't mind Keion, coach cal, or even stoops for having opinons and I don't mind them expressing their own opinons but don't get mad at the fan base when they have a different opinion. Will I quit watching? Doubtful. But I won't clear my days and nights out anymore to make sure I watch them. If I miss a game so be it. Kinda hurts to say that.

Anywho...new York strips on the grill in a marinade grilled with some hickory smoke chips . They were legit.

My only problem with Keion is that he admitted that he knew nothing about Coach Rupp, and then follows it up with, he thinks they should change the name. If you don’t have any facts, one way or the other, just say that you don’t know enough about the situation to make a comment, and don’t cause controversy. 95% of the people who want the name changed are just like Keion. They have no idea what they are talking about, and the other 5%, just want it changed to cause trouble. Just like those who want to tear down Abraham Lincoln’s statue.

I watched a little college football last night: Central Arkansas vs Austin Peay. Great seeing young men playing again. I'd rather have watched our Cats on ESPNU; however, we have not yet subscribed to the Spectrum Silver package.

Y'all got me interested with all this talk about rare pennies, so I spent a few hours checking old coins yesterday. Those seven 1943 pennies I own are not copper alloy, but rather steel. Worth around 5 cents each. I also found a '44 penny. It is copper alloy rather than steel. 5 more cents. Found a 1962 quarter, which has a melt value of $7 since silver prices hover around $27/ounce.

There's more. Believe it or not, certain versions of the 2005 Minnesota Quarter go for between $25 to $800 on eBay. I might own possibly two. Many more opportunities are laying around since wife and I haven't spent any change in nearly two decades. Going through all these coins is fun, but also tedious. Guess I've found a new after-hours gig while it's hot out until SEC college football season gets underway again.

Our Fantasy Football League draft is scheduled for tonight. We begin our 8th straight season. Should be fun. Looking forward to it.

Actually none warrior. I eat them right out of the Gulf while still on the boat or if we buy a tote sack full throw them on a grate and as they cook the shell will pop open. I grab them and suck them down just like I do when they are raw.

My wife uses a combination horse radish / ketchup mixture with a dash of lemon. That is really good but I am too impatient to do it. I just eat 'em . When I met her she had never seen an oyster. Not too many on the farm in Estill County, KY. But now she loves them as much as i do.

Watching her eat her first was one of the most entertaining things I have ever seen. She put it on a cracker, covered it with ketchup and put it in her mouth. Then she pulled it back out and made a frown. Then she put it back in her mouth and pulled it out, without biting down on it. She did this over and over. Finally she ate it and then begged for another one. She was hooked. But she still eats them with crackers

The closest oysters to me are Cedar Key and Yankeetown which is a little south of Apalachicola.

When you throw oysters still in the shell on the grill, they cook in their juices and the shell will pop open. Get an oyster knife, cut them out and enjoy.

The Indians in my area basically used Green River oysters (fresh water) for their base food. There is a Baptist Church right up from Nolin Lake where the old graves are mounded and covered with fresh water oyster shells. It is strange, but our early settlers got food from many sources and used those resources to honor their dead.
