Never eaten an oyster outside of the smoked ones in a can.
I have never eaten an oyster and I think I'll just coast the rest of the way out without trying them.
Had 'em smoked, raw, fried (week before last), steamed, but not grilled. Hoping to try grilled someday soon.

Me too, Star. I have never really understood why you eat them, if you shovel them to the back of your throat, and swallow them, without biting them. Why not just get some hot sauce, or horseradish, and eat them? Some people swear by them, so I am not disparaging it, but it is just not for me.

Good morning from ATX. Current temp is 83°F with 77% humidity. Expecting 104°F for our high. Another heat advisory in effect until 8 pm tonight. It really sucks here on days like today. Fall can't arrive quickly enough.

Nice recruiting win for UK FB yesterday. Happy we kept the young man in-state.

Monday, Monday.....

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

D-League,
Hi everyone, I hope you all are doing well as we start off another week. At my house, it's currently 72 degrees with a balmy 99% humidity according to my weather station. We had some decent rain yesterday and maybe the cloud cover today will help keep our temps below 90.

-Nothing too exciting is going on for me right now; at least nothing noteworthy that anyone would really care hearing about.

-It's a bit sad to see all the violence, dissention, and general hate out there in the world; not to mention all the natural disaster phenomena out there, and the middle east happenings; but, my Bible tells me it will be this way in these last days we are in. For the truly saved, look up, for our redemption draws near...

-I'm seeing bits and pieces that even UK sports in jumping on the social justice warrior bandwagan. Makes me lose enthusiasm for the programs when I see all that non-sense going on. Do the coaches really support all these organizations that want to literally destroy our society? Or, do they feel as though they have to due to pressure to save face with the athletes?

-MLB baseball is still fun to watch with all the outstanding, freakish talent out there in the game right now.

-Let's make it a great day today.

The athletes run sports now, not the coaches or even the team owners. In college the coaches think if they don't support the violence in the street it will hurt recruiting so they jump on the bandwagon.

Where it ends up, I don't know. Do you know if anybody in the family wants the season basketball tickets? I am open to transferring them. My son will take the football tickets because he likes to tailgate at the games. But he is getting disgusted too. He wants nothing to do with our basketball program anymore. Nor do his children

Good morning on this last day of August 2020.

Well we are sitting at 77° with 100% humidity. Our high will be 80° at 12:00 noon and then start dropping into the mid 70's. We have a 25% chance of rain.

I got a kick out of the response to oysters. I guess it is one of those things you are born eating or acquire later in life like my wife did. But I can see if you were not raised on the coast it may be hard. One tradition our family had was oyster stew on Christmas Eve. My mother had an old recipe that was passed down through the generations and I have it today. Making oyster stew may be the easiest meal to prepare. We use half and half and plenty of cows butter. Then we serve it with toasted Cuban bread with another pound or two of butter. Then take a bottle of Tabasco sauce and pour it on. Life is good and y'all make it a great day.

It is 74.3°F with overcast skies and 74% humidity. My rain gauge says we have had .31" rain. That is on top of the .83 that Laura gave us. So, 1.14" ain't bad for late August in Kentucky.

Back to oysters: I love oyster stew; I love oysters just about any way except raw. My son was taught by Joe B. Hall to love raw oysters and he can go through a dozen in no time. My favored way to have oysters are oysters Rockefeller and the best oysters Rockefeller that I ever had were at Willie G's in the galleria area of Houston. The second-best oysters Rockefeller that I ever had were at Jimmy G's near the Intercontinental Airport. They were owned by the same guy when I lived there. My last official act on the way out of Houston when we were being moved to Baltimore, MD was to take the family to Jimmy g's. It cost a fortune, but man it never disappointed.

The one good thing about working at CSX was I entertained folks a lot and I got exposed to the best food in North America, along with the best golf courses. I tried every food offered up to me and basically the ones I simply don’t like are escargot and rabbit. It is hard to believe that a country boy who grew up hunting rabbits would not like to eat rabbit, but I don’t. My mom would cover up the rabbit with every type of gravy etc. and I would eat it then.

This is an introductory presumption with 99% of our D-League posts and thus unnecessary to say.

Thanks Sawnee Cat.

I came back from Sam's club and Sherry has a big pot of oyster stew going. I read your post this morning and that inspired her.

I owe you.
Wow. That is a real woman showing her love. Lucky man you are Bert
It is a perfect day for oyster stew down here. Been raining and never reached 80 degrees

I saw where Biden is calling Trump "weak" for not dealing with all the violence across the country. Reminds me of the arsonist who starts a fire, and then thinks the firemen don't arrive soon enough.
He wants Trump to pull the trigger if you will so that he can look like a dictator. Trump will wait until after the election. Biden and the left are seeing his numbers dwindle because many people realize that this is only happening in left controlled areas. They are allowing their people to get hurt in hopes that they can gain from it. It is back firing.

Well folks I cancelled my Direct TV as of 9-7-2020 I have been with them 12 years, but ever since AT&T took over they just keep raising the bill and are just too hard to negotiate with. I have been recording UK games since the 1978 NCCA Championships. I guess I will try Dish or go with our local telephone cable. Hated to do it, but not going to pay 160 plus a month for just pretty much sports. We have no movie channels and really don't want any. What do y'all think about Dish Network?

Dish is in a battle with CBS over rates so Dish has pulled all CBS programming. You are ok if you have an antenna that receives CBS.

I think AT&T owns DISH too or at least a big share of it.

I do the same thing as you well know. UK games and entertainment are my big thing in life.

I have had DirecTv and Dish multiple times. They are good, but they have the weather problems. I got rid of DirecTV four years ago because they did not give me the locals. UK was on CBS three or four games a year and the NCAA. Dish had the locals but they actually were down due to weather more than DirecTV. At one time 6 years ago I have Spectrum (TWC then), DirecTV an Dish just so that I could get a good UK game.

I am with now with Spectrum 100%. But I am paying $250 a month plus taxes for cable, internet and phone. I have 600 mbps download, all channels (including all the movie channels) and phone to North America. I have 4 DVR's (don't ask me why two people need that but that is what we have to take care of company when they show up). The price is too much but my movie channels are only $16.00 if I remove them all. If I want to have real savings then I lose sports. I watch very few movies and sports (outside UK) but I want to catch all that I want to see, I hate seeing that I do not have a subscription for something. On top of that I have Netflex and Britbox streaming to keep my wife happy.

Spectrum makes DirecTV and Dish look bad in regards to down time. With Spectrum you do not have to worry about thunderstorms; whereas, the sats go down anytime the rain absorbs all the microwaves between the sat and your receiver. In the last four years my cable has been down less than an hour. My internet is wonderful. If I do a speed check and it is below 90 mbps I call Spectrum and bitch.

My big problem is High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) when I have to record in HD off an HDMI cable. So I am now down to three DVR's that output composite signals. If I try to record through an HDMI cable the HDCP shuts the DVR off. Once I can't get a DVR or receiver with composite signals I will no longer be able to record the games in HD.

So I pay a high price to get to keep my games. Spectrum allows me to do that and also give me really good service.

I dropped it about 7 years ago. I do not have cable anymore. I use ROKU and stream the programs.
