D-League

Good morning D, I have been up since 1 this morning, just one of those can't sleep nights. Got an ENT appointment today in O'boro.

We made 24 pints of BBQ sauce Saturday and going to make 13 more today, makes great Christmas presents.

Mrs. M is off this week so we are planning on doing some work around the house that needs to be done.

Welcome back Y carry on!!!!

Prayers for those who need them, I don't know but God does!!!

Good Monday morning D League

We had a beautiful day yesterday and may have the same today. It is currently 66° and we should reach 81. Chance of no rain is 80% or as the weather girl said, there is a 20% chance of rain.

Well, our biggest football challenge is behind us with our loss to Georgia. We can salvage the season if we can go on a winning streak. I see we are 11 point underdogs to Missouri but if we can score some points we can beat them. But there is work to do this week and I hope Coach Stoops and Eddie Gran can come up with a way win this one.

I am still a bachelor until mid week. This morning I am going to have to break down and write out a check to the IRS. I forgot my last quarterly payment and Uncle Sam does not appreciate that. The last thing I need is some IRS person writing me letters or knocking on my door.

Carry on and have a great day. Oh, and it is good to see Y back with us. We need his words of wisdom as we navigate this world of ours.

My Pioneer plasma recently passed and I replaced it with this "Linky" at model clearance pricing. Perfect panel for my home entertainment center/theater needs. Ordered on Monday had it Saturday in time for games.
My advice, don't get too hung up in the 4K BS. Large screen HD (1080P) screens > 48" appear grainy due to the large pixel size. The 4K screens have approximately 4x the HD pixels. The newer 4K models have improved scalers allowing the better HD image scaling of the 1080P material into the 4K screen display. That's likely what you'll be watching for some time.
Wow, that 's top of the line Rooster. You're right about 4K. From my extensive research it's HDR and OLED that will make the greatest viewing impact. Oh, and the biggest size screen your room will allow. For me it's 65 inches.

Congrats on the weight loss and keep it up.

Where did he go?

Where DIDN'T I go? That's the question.

I've been on my diet since July and I'm back down to 183. I took the weekend off and cheated some, but not too much. OK, I cheated a lot.

Got a workshop day planned. Have to cut some 3x3's down in length and thickness so I can glue them together to make cabinet doors for the back of the bar.

I went 4K HDR a couple of years ago. Love it. 65" Samsung. Rooster is right. Not a whole lot of 4K content out there.

Have a good day! I'm off to the salt mine.

I too will be pulling the trigger on a new TV in the near future. I think 55 inch is about as big as i need to go. Likely get it at Costco.

On the SUV subject, my wife just bought a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, it's a great LITTLE SUV. Also highly rated for safety. When we went to Arizona this year, Enterprise upgraded me to a GMC Acadia, Man that's a nice SUV.

On the diet front, down to 194 and kinda been stuck there for a couple weeks, but that's OK. Coming down from 259, I'm happy with that. My target is about 185. I will eventually get there.

Hope the Football team can win out from here on and get a decent bowl game, hopefully another here in Florida. That's all I got, everyone have a great week!

I thought about the 77" model, but the 65" is just fine. My display panel quality matches the audio quality in that it finally exceeds the physical limitations of my aging biological sensors (eyes).

I have a sony 70" 4K but there is little 4K programming. The only 4K service that I have that does not cost extra is Amazon. Some of their programming is 4K. My TV tries to make 1080 look like 4K.

  • Looking at used SUVs time to upgrade the family vehicle. Anyone have any recommendations on anything?

Toyota 4Runner.

I researched them for over a year before I bought one...I wholeheartedly recommend this for a bulletproof used SUV. In Atlanta they can't keep these things on the lot. I had to snipe mine and got fortunate to be online the moment it went public.

I could not be happier with this vehicle and could kick myself for not buying one sooner.

Don, I was on the road yesterday and had to listen to most of the game on WHAS in the car. Just like old times.

Stu, yeah I took a couple of extra days. Anything worth doing for a month is worth doing for 33 days.

Missed the D league but I did get my bar finished. Sink is installed but I'm not going to hook up the water until Spring. I have to install a Y connector at the house spigot and I don't want to fool with it until I know it isn't going to freeze for awhile.

Wish I could have come back to gloat about UK beating the dawgs, but...

Loved what I saw in the Blue White game! This has the potential to be another special group. Like all the new guys but I think I'm more excited to see the returning players show out. Junior Nick Richards could end up being a force around the basket. Told my wife he has the potential to be a guy the national media gushes about. Hope this is his year.
Glad to have you back Ymmot.

The Acadia is the GMC version of the Traverse, by Chevy. My wife loves hers.

I had a Sylvania that looked similar. Lasted nearly 25 years.
Our first TV was a Sylvania. I was 14 years old when we got it. Daddy had it for at least 25 years and did all of the service work on it himself. He was too tight to call a TV repairman. The man could save a penny

My mother was dead set against having a TV in our house. So what did dad do. He bought one for her birthday. How can you say no to a birthday present?

Mine survived several moves including to Seattle and back in the 80's. Loved that TV.

A man's got to know his limitations!

Glad to have you back Ymmot.

Thanks bud, glad to be back.

Had a Curtis Mathis once of similar design.

I picked up a Curtis Mathis back around 81 and it worked fine until around 2001 when I got a larger tv and gave that one away. At least 600 Cat games went through that sucker.

Got 2 doors built for the bar today. Also got them both hung and the magnetic latch installed for one side. Time flies when you're having fun.

Is the bar open?

Just booked a 3 night stay at West Baden in French Lick. We haven't taken a vacation in 5 years because we just couldn't stomach boarding our old dog. Now that she's gone we'll take a trip before bringing a new dog into the family. Probably sometime after the holidays.

Yes, it is. It isn't stocked very well yet but I would assume that will happen before long.

I haven't been there for several years but it's time I went back. Beautiful place and not too far away.

Plasma? WTF is that?
Refered to as the 4th State of Matter. Because this is the D here's what's important. I don't remember being there but I believe that it was the 1st state before things started cooling creating gases, liquids, and solids during creation. It was also a hot energy sucking appliance that was the state of the art video panel a dozen years ago. Mine just wore out so I replaced it with an OLED.
[pfftt]
Blows the Plasma away, cheaper to power, image off the charts. The economy of scale bringing new korean factories online has dropped display prices and they continue to plunge.
