Dan H. Moved back to Louisville last year. Of course there could be other Dan H.'s from Louisville. His Dad also worked there (in Louisville) but retired due to health reasons back in the 80's.
No, I know this particular Dan H. Dan and I have some similar views on things, UK sports being one. If you will, get with him and we can figure out a time and place to meet up and discuss old times.

Good morning D League

Waking up to a nice day with sun rising in about an hour. Our current temperature 72° and we should hit about 88° We may get a few scattered showers but they say that about every day this time of year.

Well the man on the radio just said RED MEAT does not cause cancer or any heart issues. I said that over 50 years ago because my grandpa and the rest of the family had meat every meal and twice on Sunday. So I will put on a 20 oz rib-eye this afternoon and honor the new medical findings our scientific community has discovered. Grandpa could have saved them a lot of research money had they asked.

South of us in Pasco County comes the news that an actress named Stacy Dash was arrested yesterday for domestic violence. She beat the heck out of her husband in their home. He looked like he had got into it with a pit bull. She says he grabbed her by the throat The news says she starred in some movie called Clueless. I am the one clueless because I did not know who she was.

Never a dull moment. I hope the football team is practicing hard and our injured players are getting good treatment and heal up soon. Have a great day all
She was a Double D in Renaissance Man.

This may be the undoing of the NCAA. Then we can kiss college sports good bye. If this happens all the money goes to the two revenue sports and all the talent will go pro.Good bye SEC, B1G, ACC et.al. It will end up the NBA and NFL picking up high school kids. The secondary sports will be a thing of the past and the schools will no longer be able to afford to pay scholys for sports. If that is what they want then so what:
Sports being an entertainment outgrowth of normalizing natural competitive tribal prejudice has a lot of cultural taboos and it too is being socially engineered away. Competitive sport is not about equality and has many psycho babbling do-gooders who want it gone and uses any excuse that can help them achieve this. If we want collegiate sport to continue it will need protection from these folks.

You are a good neighbor and a good man. He is fortunate to have you in the neighborhood. In today's world few people would do what you did but once that was the way people treated each other.

66.0°F here and 62% humidity.

The guys got all the outside decking, rails etc. painted yesterday. They will start rescreening the porch today. It has been a month long process of getting things done. It is bad when you have to hire people to do the work you used to do.

I hope these various States do not screw up college basketball. It really pisses me off. For the first dime in decades I am on the NCAA's side, but I don't see a good end to this.

Good morning D League

Looking for a pleasant day today with more cool breezes off of the Gulf. The current temperature is 68° and we expect another high of 88°. We had a nice "shower" yesterday with a stiff wind that cooled things off. We are settling down into some very nice weather and the AC should get some rest.

I believe college sports at least basketball will be changing right before our eyes and I don't know where we are going to end up. With players selling their name or image and hiring agents and negotiating with teams as to who will pay the most or whatever it is going to be a free for all. I even heard some say they want to turn everything over to the federal government to run to make every thing fair. That is all we need, the Federal Government running college sports. Yeah that sounds like a good idea.

Maybe one good thing that could come out of this is lowering ticket prices for fans. If players are being paid, they sure do not need scholarship money so they can pay their own way. That could knock a couple of dollars off our ticket price. But that will never happen. Last night I sat down with a pen and paper and tried to name our current basketball players. I got Nick Richards and E.J. Montgomery but I could not remember the full name of anyone else. I got a few last names but don't know their first name. Once upon a time not only could I name them, I could tell you how many rebounds and points they scored. It isn't the same anymore. And no it is not dementia it is I don't really care.

Have a great day all.

I agree, especially about the basketball roster turnover. The constant change is getting tiresome and I'm discovering that, the older I get and the more distanced I am from my college years at UK, the less interested I am and the less I am closely following the team. I know, it may be heresy to say, but that's just how I feel about the current status of UK basketball. Of course, I want to see them do well, but the constant change and roster turnover is hard to follow.....at least for me.

It gets old doesn't it.

Good morning D from the Berg. Still hot here, but they are saying just two more days, then a cool down! I am just waiting till Friday so I can mow. Our neighbor mowed yesterday and it looked like a dust storm, now every thing is covered with dust outside!

I am the same way with the basketball team, I liked the old days when we knew everything about the team, even their names without having to go look them up! Also I just don't get all bent out of shape. Anyway we just have 12 years left so maybe we can win at least 6 NCAA's!!!

Ok VETS I have got a question, at the soccer game Monday the Nation Anthem was sung and after it was over I got to thinking, I cover my heart, but can the FLAG be saluted (EX military) by me or just cover my heart? I hope this is not a stupid question.

I did a few things yesterday, just not much, too hot! I did take down an old Bluebird house and threw it away, I already have built two new ones and I up grade our Hummingbird holder. Mrs. M likes to see them set on a perch, so I the holder down and drilled a 3/8" hole thru the 2x4, put a 3/8 dowel rod thru it, she was happy and so were the Hummingbirds.

Ya'll have a great and safe day. Prayers to the D

Go Cards! I know we have some Braves fans on here, I like the Braves , but not when they are playing St. Louis!

Hey D-League,
It's a good Wednesday around here and another hot, scorcher high of 98 expected today. Yesterday's temps made it up to 98, with heat/humidity index in the low 100s. The heat postponed or cancelled high school sports activities for the day, including one of our most anticipated cross country races of the season at one of our favorite courses at Grove Level/Prater's Mill, just above Dalton, GA.

It's a bummer that we had to cancel that as our guys usually run very well on that course, but running a 5k race in that type of heat is just so hard on the body and makes for some slow performances. I say go on and run it, but you know how litigious of a society we live in. School sports of all types take no chances whatsoever when it comes to excessive heat, thunderstorms/lightning, etc.....and so on.

I keep hearing about this massive cold front that is expected to sweep through the area this upcoming weekend, cooling off the temps in the upper 70s for next week. That will sure be a welcome sight. We're all tired of the 95-100 degree heat lingering into October. Like others have said, I really need to mow the yard this week.

This is a good question, certainly not a stupid one. As veterans we can salute the flag whether covered or uncovered. We are not required to remove our head gear. The reasoning is as veterans we earned the right to salute the flag. I am an Army veteran and we may have different procedures from the Navy or Marines. Civilians who have never served place their hand over their heart and remove head gear if wearing one. Men that is I am not sure about women. Grandma can probably leave her bonnet on.

You're not alone. I was the same way, I could tell you where each player was from, height, weight, and uniform number. Now I might know a couple of players numbers and that's only the ones returning.

Two very beautiful Kentucky ladies. Bert you are a fortunate man.
Yes sir, I am. Sherry, my wife, was born in Glasgow; Sam, my daughter, was born in Louisville.

No one appreciates family more than me (or is that "I", hell I majored in chemistry). All of my family came from "stable" families.

I don't know how I did it but I trapped a fine lady. She still swears that she loves me. I still don't know why. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My father passed away Sept 1 2011 when I was 18. I have survivors guilt and dealing with it pretty hard today. Just needed to post this somewhere. Thanks for reading.
Rest easy RR...you're among friends. No reason for any guilt...it's called life and your fathers life has taken the next step. I hope that came out right...

Many of us in the D League have had to say a final good-bye to our fathers and mothers and we understand your feelings. There is not a day that goes by we do not think of them. Our prayer is your father rests in peace and your memories be positive and full of the good times. The laughs, the precious times together and the proud moments you shared. We have a promise that we will be united with those who has passed before us and I hold onto that promise. That faith and belief gets me through life and prepares me for the day I too will say a final good-bye. May God bring you peace and comfort and thank you for sharing your feelings. You are with friends. .

My mother passed away the morning of April 3rd 2012. Yes just hours after UK won number 8. My victory celebrating was cut short. She raised me on UK basketball since I can remember. Got the call from my brother at about 8:00 am that morning and called my step father and the only question I had for him was "Did she watch the game?" He said: "You know she did.". I then said: "good, at least I know she died happy, I will be home in a couple of days". Sept 23rd is her birthday and it hits hard every year.

Release the guilt and try to find a bright point if you can. I had to for myself and the Championship Game helped.

If it helps you at all I still remember telling my dad how good AD and MKG were going to be. I'm so happy for your mom to go out on a high note ( i hope thats not insensitive.) I had a 1996 makers bottle ready to pop on our championship night but couldn't do it bc I wanted to remember him every time I looked at it.
Cherish the memories because they're priceless.

Not insensitive at all, I was thinking the same thing at the time. I have since told my wife that there where three ways I would like to go. Sliding into home and hearing "SAFE!", a UK Championship just before or, hearing her saying "Oh Baby you're the best!" She replied jokingly: "The first 2 are a possibility".
