Thanks, that was a very interesting interview by Kyle Petty. I agree 100% with your thoughts on owners running multiple cars. You end up with "teams" who answer to the owner rather than running the race wide open to win. I realize I am old school because of my age but I remember when Stock Car racing as we called it then was pure in form. Every car did not have to be like all of the others on the track. You could race a 40 Ford against a 1952 Hudson Hornet. My childhood hero in racing was "Fireball" Roberts because he was a local racer from Florida. All my buddies followed him too and I saw him race on the dirt at Daytona Beach before the big super tracks were built. It was pure racing. A man could go down to the Ford Dealership buy a car, "soup it up" as we called it back then, qualify it and run the race. It your car against the field. Fords, 88 Olds, Hudson Hornets, Pontiac any brand you could get qualified. But those days are gone forever and I realize it Although you can still find a little of it on the dirt tracks down here. There is a little town not far from Inverness, Florida that has a race track on the fairgrounds and they still do it right. But like everything in this world it is driven by money and I guess NASCAR sold out when the $$$'s were thrown at them. I just wish they were more fan friendly. Number 22 Ford right out of the showroom and souped up.@Sawnee Cat check out this video. I just finished watching it and it's very interesting about NASCAR and the beginning of the Childress era.
Personally, I think Richard Childress has done as much to kill NASCAR as anyone. Owners running multiple cars was the beginning of the end.
I remember watching a race on the beach in the early 50's behind a rope. I was 9 years old and we lived in Vero Beach. There were men walking up and down warning us not to go out on the track. Trust me that was the last place this little boy was headed. One thing I remember it was loud. Fun times and a simple life no doubt. Some of those cars were gettin it down the beach where the sand was packed.
I watched the rerun of the Eastern Michigan game and paid particular note of the QB after Terry was injured. Watching that again gave me a feeling of confidence in our quarterback position. I did a little research on Smith and found out he made All State two years in North Florida. He had a baseball scholarship offer from Alabama which tells we a couple of things. One he can throw a ball and he has athletic ability. He was an option QB in high school and he can run. Maybe not as flashy or as quick as Terry but I think he will get the job done.
Finally he has some experience. I think he will be a good quarterback this year.
I'm all in on Sawyer Smith. How many times have we seen a backup come in for other schools and not only not miss a beat, but exceed prior output? He's a hoss and all these first string reps he's getting will get him synced up with the receivers. I wouldn't call Wilson deadly from deep either.
Beat Florida on Saturday and we'll have smooth sailing for him to get his legs. Hopefully this adversity translates into vigor and our Cats duct tape the Gators mouths shut.
Times are good for the Austin family!Wife just drove home in a new, silver 2019 Nissan Rogue. Yikes.
Our 2013 Frontier is also on the way. Dealer held it for service.
Racing the way it was meant to be.Here is a little clip of racing on Daytona Beach before the Super Speedway Track. This was 1952
Geeze, what could go wrong?
Thanks. Well, sort of. I must move the gate back about 3 feet to get both vehicles under the carport. Wife's brother will assist with that project.Times are good for the Austin family!
Love that flick! That crash with the white car was real. Dude was on his way to work and didn't know they were filming.
To Live and Die in LA has a helluva chase as well.
Love that flick!
Oh yeah. Jane Leeves. Remember she played the virgin on Seinfeld too.Me too. Had no idea what it was going to be when I first watched it. First time I'd seen that ugly dude whose name I can't remember. Remember the threesome scene with his girlfriend and the other girl? Well the other girl went on to play Daphne in Frazier. Quite a different role.
A friend of mine that I Studied martial arts from and with since 1988 and help teach at his Do Jo years later after I retired from the military died Saturday from cancer. He was an associate pastor for years at a church in which he used as his Do Jo as well which was in a poor neighborhood. The church allowing him to use it kept the cost down which made the cost around $25.00 a month per person. I will attend his funeral which will be held at the FT. Sill National Cemetery tomorrow morning here in Elgin OK. All practitioners of the arts are requested by his wife (who is also a 6th degree herself) to wear their karate uniforms.

Thank you, he really was a good guy, always courteous to everyone. Just let one of the guys I work with know I will be out tomorrow morning to go to the funeral and when I told him who it was, he remembered Zip from the VA clinic on Ft Sill and said every time he went in, Zip was his caregiver. He explained to me that he was always so friendly and made sure that he understood everything about the meds he was prescribed and went the extra mile to help. That was his nature even with the students we have. God called a good one home.Thoughts and prayers. It is never easy to say a final good-bye to a friend. We are sorry for you loss Warrior-Cat
