My father past passed this morning. The peace is a blessing. He lived 86 years his way, and was very private about it. Note I rarely speak of him. Out of respect I might add. I normally post about the family deep country wildlings like Bert. Here is a single linky about the paternal side. Linky Everybody knows too much about the family as it is.

Good Morning D League

It is currently 74° and we should see close to 90° this afternoon. This weekend our little town is having "Christmas in July "with the main focus on a gun show. They will close Main St for outdoor vendors to show, sell and trade guns. There will be 141 tables. The sheriff promised a snow machine to help us get in the spirit. I predict the snow will be a big puddles 3 seconds after it hits the ground. It might melt in the air before it hits the ground, if so we can call it a rain machine.

Take care all

Good Morning D

Sorry for your loss Rooster...prayers and condolences.

Morning all.
Changed out the battery yesterday in #2's car. I'm skeptical that was the issue...it was only 2 1/2 yrs old. I'm afraid it's pulling a charge somewhere & draining the battery. Another wait & see. She's got jumper cables in the trunk now.
Mowed the front yard last night with a little help from the redhead. Gotta do the back today after work. Then I'm gonna head in to the west side and listen to one of my favorite local bands. They've played at Stevie Rays a few times. Next time they're are gonna be there I may go and try to meet some of you that are in the area...if your interested.
Do your best or don't... no pressure. It's Friday.

put a 2" shim in there to even you up. Then you won't be walking in a big circle.
My father passed this morning. The peace is a blessing

Hard to laugh & cry at the same time...but it happened.

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning here. Temp is hanging around 68° with a slight breeze coming out of the west. Of course, the breeze is coming out of an air conditioning vent and there is no way I'm venturing outside until it's absolutely necessary.

Heat index could hit 110° for the next 3 days.

@OldEvilleCat I'd be happy to meet up at Stevie Rays sometime. My wife and I have gone there several times to see a friend of ours play.

Yeah, I doubt that the battery was done. Clean the cables. Check the alternator.

Sorry to here that Rooster. While the peace is a blessing the pain will still be there.

It was a ripe old age for a farmer too. When they hit their 60s they were about done. FCC.
I do not remember either of my grandfathers nor my dad's mother.

Dad's father died at 74, his mom 73.
Mom's dad died at 64, her mom at 70.

I did enjoy my maternal grandmother until I was 14.

I lost my dad when I was 29, he was 73.

I never knew my paternal grandparents (or hardly any of his family) nor my maternal grandpa. Only my maternal grandma and she had zero interest in her grandkids.

We were and still are a very tight knit family. My mother's father died at 67 but my grandmother on mama's side died at 86. Grandpa on daddy's side died at 86 and was breaking horses the Friday before he died on Sunday. His wife, my grandmother died at 90. My mother lived to be 95 and my wife's mother is alive at age 95 living in Berea, KY.

Both sides of my grandparents were from the country and instilled a work ethic. My maternal grandmother did not believe in play. It was work, work, work and if she found you with nothing to do she would bring you a basket of green beans to string or some corn to husk. Her mother was a German immigrant who came to America in the 1850's and it was work or starve in those days.

Daddy's side was different. They encouraged play, especially sports with a ball and riding horses. Now they grew a huge garden and had livestock so there was work to do but once your chores were over somebody would bring a bat and ball and the cow pasture became a baseball diamond. Or you could shoot hoops on the basket nailed to the barn door. As long as you pretended to be playing for the UK Wildcats. That was mandatory. And if it was getting dark, some uncle or aunt would play some music and we would all sing along. Usually gospel songs and bluegrass. Then at 5:30 in the morning it would start all over.

Today all of my living cousins are still in touch and we have family reunions. We are scattered from the East Coast to the West Coast but our blood line continues and we are still family.

Sorry to hear about your father Rooster. That's always a sad time. My wife recently went through it. Be prepared for a delayed response. She was initially fine, then about a week later it hit her.

I slipped over to the National Mall today and enjoyed the 40 or so tented exhibits celebrating the Moon Landing-plus-50. I'm not a raging science geek so a lot of the stuff was aimed at other people, but cool stuff not only on the Moon missions but on the unmanned Mars missions and on future NASA projects. I know you all enjoy talking about growing your 'maters. Well I talked with a NASA scientist who told me they were going to start growing tomatoes in the space station this fall, in some sort of plasticized synthetic soil, as I understood it. They are already growing lettuce in space. I told the guy they were a Poland China away from a BLT, but he didn't get it. Anyway, one of those times when despite the BS, Washington is a good place to live.
