Yes. It has to do with Sirius the star and ancient Egyptian astronomers . Where the star was located.
The astronomer/priests observed that Sirius rose with the Sun just prior to the annual flooding of the Nile. The appearance of a celestial object at sunrise is known as a heliacel rising. If you can see Sirius from behind the glare of the Sun, you know that the tears of isis are on their way on.As life-giving flood waters.

Although I’m all for the hot dogs on the grill thing.
Interesting. I had no doubt that you could answer my question. My dog is pleased!

Well, it does have somewhat to do with dogs. Sirius is part of the constellation Canus Major, meaning “greater dog” in Latin and over time was nicknamed the “Dog Star”.But it is the brightest star in the sky which is one reason the Egyptians associated it’s position with the rains that would come to flood the Nile. Part of the whole summer solstice thing. Traditions for tribes in the southern hemisphere see it as the start of Winter and used it for navigation on the southern Pacific Ocean.

Good morning D League

Expecting another typical day. Warm, sunny with probable thunder storm about 4:00 PM We are currently at 73° and may hit 90° by mid afternoon and then the rains will cool us down. I am going to spray my yard today. The grass around the lake can be a breeding ground for no seeums, skeeters and pests. The spray takes care of that and does not harm the lake.

Later.

Morning all
Left work early yesterday. Moved #2 and granddaughter back in... Hopefully she'll get it figured out. And her car wouldn't start...I think its just the battery tho. I will invest a little more time into that today.
Heat advisory.... I don't remember hearing about those in the 70's.
All I remember hearing is "it's summer, it's July, it's going to be hot and humid today." Climate change my ass.
I digress... bigger challenges ahead.
Do your best...

Good morning from ATX. Currently 79°F. Expecting 99°F or so later today.

Instead of hitting the pub tonight, I'll stay home. Plan on fixing a few things.

We'll check back later. Y'all behave.
Ah caviar. The food of kings and queens. We have a local favorite we call "fish roe" and it is always a special treat. Take these jewels, roll them in cracker meal and pan fry until golden brown and you are in for some good eating.

I was totally devoted to NASA. My father and mother watched the landing in my living room. The picture quality was too poor for it to have been shot in the desert.:joy:

I was sitting in our living room with my wife and mom and dad. I had a Polaroid camera and took a few photos from the TV screen. They have probably faded out by now and I haven't seen them in years. I think I will search for them for curiosity's sake.

That brings back memories. My pappaw ran a trot line across a little creek down the holler from where he lived in Bracken County, and he loved nothing more than harvesting fish roe from the morning's catch. He was rare for his time and place, a somewhat educated man who was a musician and school teacher before going to France in World War 1. When he got back he'd lost enthusiasm for doing more than keeping a small patch of tobacco that produced just enough money to keep his kids from starving to death, and fishing. My father loved him, but hated the poverty, and became an extreme hard worker. I trended back toward the middle...
