By the time Summer was over one's feet would be as tough as a pine knot.
I have seen the sun beating down on a black top road so hot the tar was melting. Then we would walk across it like it was as cool as the inside of an ice box. Tar would stick between our toes. If we had been in North Carolina we could probably be called Tar Heels. Ugh

Just watched GS go 4-0 with Portland. Curry avg 36.5 That was without Durant and Cousins. They were behind 17 again tonight and they play like champions. So looks like my favorite 2 teams will get to the finals. GS and soon Milwaukee. Get to see more of Bledsoe. Plus the Greek freak. Should be a good series although the Greek looked very tired his last game. Hurry up BBM. FCC.

Morning D-League, rain, rain, rain. This has been the coolest and rainiest spring in recent (22 year) memory. Been retired from the Army here 22 years 1 July and we have not had this much rain or had as cool a spring as we are having now. Like the coolness but the rain has put a damper on my fishing.

Good morning D League

We have a big full moon in the sky and it is as bright as a star. Nice morning with .current temperature at 70° we are looking at a high of 88° with clear skies. Towns to the East of us and more inland will hit the 90's. I have about a half a dozen trees that need a little work and fertilizer so I am going to do that before high noon. I was out earlier and the humidity was not bad.

The man on the radio said today was National Waiter and Waitress Day. There you go. If you are a waiter or waitress have a nice day and I hope all of your tips exceed 20%. If.........

Have a great day all and how about our newest football commitment. When you bring someone like that on board you are running with the big boys. Oh how I want a good football program. I am one of the strange UK fans who enjoy football over basketball. Maybe it is because of the tailgating or something like that. Go Cats. And keep up the recruiting while we are hot. .

President Trump's fault according to the Dems.

Well, Saturday was our 23 years anniv. and Sunday was middle daughter's 21 years birthday. So, it's Saturday and daughter calls to wish us happy anniv. and wife gets this blank look on her face. We both forgot. That bailed ,me out that she had forgot also. I ran to local card and flower shop.

Now, later I asked her if she wanted to go out and eat. She said that we couldn't afford it and she had rather eat dirt than go any further in debt. About that time as me and her were sitting on the front porch by ourselves, our 18 yr old opens the front door and asked what we were having for supper. At the same time, me and my wife turned around and said to him, "dirt". He shut the door. True story. FCC.

My kind of people

Good morning D League. The East was blessed with a cool, clear, humidity free morning so I walked around for an extra hour downtown in DC. Won't have that luxury long. I can't stand to go to work feeling sticky from the humidity, so I limit my work-day walking from late May to late September. I passed this simple stone today about the size of a large work desk that had the name Franklin Delano Roosevelt carved into it, on a small wedge of grass next to the National Archives building. Then, half obscured by bushes, I noted a little sign that explained it: The year before he died, Roosevelt was talking with Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, who was a friend. And FDR told him, when I die, if they want to memorialize me at all, make it with some object - stone, granite, whatever - about the size of my White House desk. And so, that's what they did for the longest serving president. Sorry for another tedious anecdote.

Austin, how do I get on your retirement plan? I'm tired of working, but I have no gift for finding money, and like all of you, no one has ever given me any.

Yeap the weather is global warming. No matter what happens it is global warming. If it is hotter than hell it is global warming. It you freeze your ass off it is global warming. All of this will be fixed as soon as Bill DeBlazio is elected. Hell you wan't even need electricity because you will not be able to afford it.

Thanks. I did not know that.

FDR was my dad's hero.

Here is FDR's tombstone at Hyde Park. I was last there in 2002 when I took this picture.

IMHO, "tedious anecdotes" are what make the D interesting.

Auburn police shooting suspect caught after manhunt

AUBURN — A man who opened fire on police responding to a domestic disturbance report, killing one officer and wounding two others, was arrested on Monday and charged with capital murder, authorities said.

Grady Wayne Wilkes, 29, was being held without bond in the shooting death of Officer William Buechner, who had been with the Auburn Police Division for more than 13 years.

Wilkes also was charged with attempted murder in the wounding of officers Webb Sistrunk and Evan Elliott, said Police Chief Paul Register. Both are expected to recover.

This undated photo released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency shows Grady Wayne Wilkes. Authorities in Alabama say Wilkes, killed one Auburn police officer and wounded two others. District Attorney Brandon Hughes said authorities would seek capital punishment: "If you shoot a police officer, we're going to seek the death penalty, absolutely," he said.

The chief described Wilkes as a former member of the military who was working in the area and hadn't had previous contact with police. The "Blue Alert" sent out after the officers were shot described him as wearing camouflage body armor and a helmet.

But with helicopters hovering overhead, he didn't get far. An intense, overnight manhunt led to Wilkes' arrest about nine hours after the shootings, less than a mile from the Arrow Head Trailer Park, where the officers were hit. Information from a citizen helped police and U.S. marshals take him down.

The chief called the arrest "relatively uneventful" and said no one was injured bringing him into custody. A booking photo released by police showed Wilkes with red marks and apparent bruises on his face, but a police spokesman did not respond to an email seeking information about his appearance.

The person who called police wasn't hurt, the chief said, but Wilkes also was charged with domestic violence.

Court records weren't available immediately to show whether Wilkes had a lawyer. Register wouldn't comment on details of the investigation.

The Lee County coroner Bill Harris said the officer who was killed died in an emergency room.

"This is probably the worst day of my time here," Register said. "Words cannot express the loss for this family, our family and this community."

Gov. Kay Ivey decried the violence.

"This is so tragic and so useless. I'm just heartbroken," she said Monday during an appearance in Montgomery.

A woman from Coffee County, located south of Auburn, had asked a judge in November for a court order protecting her from abuse by Wilkes, records show.

She wrote in a court document that Wilkes, who had an Enterprise address at the time, sexually assaulted her while she was incapacitated, and she feared he would harm her after learning she was pressing charges. She is married to another man.

The judge refused a protection order following a hearing in January, ruling that the woman didn't have a "qualifying relationship" with Wilkes, whom she said she did not know before the alleged assault.

There is no record of sexual assault charges against Wilkes, who records show doesn't have a criminal record in Alabama.

Sawnee, thanks for posting that. Wonder what the training involves?
I found this interesting article that gives you an idea what they have to do. Starting salary is about $12.00 an hour but the perks are many. Many famous people come by and in the past people like Elvis Presley, Jimmy Buffet, etc have been among the celebs. Hope this link works.

Fully transforming into a mermaid can take up to a year.

First, aspiring mermaids show up to open tryouts, which occur about once a year, or as needed. To qualify, the women (or men, if they’re princes) must be at least 18 years old and be able to swim 400 yards in under 15 minutes, which proves to be a challenge.

After qualifying, there’s training. An important part of that is becoming scuba certified so the mermaids know how to use the air hoses and understand safety protocols.

The mermaids also have to learn how to use buoyancy to their advantages. A deep breath in allows them to float up. Let it out, and they’ll sink down.

But training is just the start — mermaids must master the underwater routines. The Ferris wheel is the most difficult move. For this move, the women drop their hoses, grab each other’s tails and create something like a Ferris wheel as they swim in a loop.

Hey Bert! I didn't think about 5/27 being a holiday. If you'd like to reschedule then that would be fine with me. I'm flexible. And if everything is still on, then don't think you need to feed me one of those magnificent steaks I have bragged about to everyone in earshot since I was blessed with its life changing mouth feel and taste the last time I was there.

Working on a bottle of bourbon. Might be a keeper.
