AgreedThis place sure beats the hell out of the others. Need it sometimes, thank you
AgreedThinking about Ymmot's Daddy and Sawnee Cat. Prayers for both guys. God, please be with them and heal and nurse them.

I'm more of a lurker & a liker, not much of a poster. Everyone have a good day...wishing nothing but the best for you all.
Rooster's ability to be the first one atop every page with a train pic is mind boggling to me...no matter what time of day or night. Is it just me...?
Daughter #2 has an appt with the Dr this afternoon...possibly scheduling c-section very soon. I think I'm about to be a Grandpa...
Glad your Dad's procedure went well!
Bummer about the receiver. Can you send it back for a full refund? If you get stuck with postage then as you probably already know it could be expensive. One option is to use the broken receiver as an external phono preamp. There's a good chance that this section still works. Just plug your turntable into the broken receiver 's phono in and then run a cable between the Marantz tape out and your other receiver. Any input will work (tape in, aux, cd, etc.). Maybe you can bargain with the seller if they know it's broken.
Thank you! Good morning everyone. It's a little windy here but it feels good. Got a plane to catch around 3 and I can't wait to visit California. Its always been on my bucket list.
I bought it off of shopgoodwill so there is no returning it. Next thing I'll do is hook up an antenna and see if FM works. It won't. Might take it to Magnetic Tape and let them fix it.
I'm glad I got to go to Cali when I did because I certainly have no desire to go there now. I did two years there, 82-84 and saw a lot of stuff from the top to the bottom, left to the right. I was also there in 81 but only for about three months and didn't venture much beyond the Lodi/Stockton area up to Sacramento and over to Santa Cruz a few times.
Lol. I lived there 4 years while my wife got her Doctorate at UCLA, best place i ever lived and regret leaving still after all these yearsCulture . . . overated. Economy . . . bankrupt. Coastal ecology . . . an interesting ecological black hole.

We left because my wife missed her huge family. We still have friends out there but I’m at the point in my life where even if I could afford to live in the nice areas, I don’t feel like ever moving again. But evidently you can find affordable living out there still, they have about 40 million citizensAce, I moved to CA (Ventura) in 1976 and l left in 1982. CA was a great place to live then. I returned in 1991 and stayed till I retired in 2007 (Bakersfield - could no long afford to live on the coast). The decline over those last years was bad enough to cause me to retire to AZ. The ten years since I left have seen the CA decline continue on steroids.
CA is still OK if one is wealthy and can live and work in the wealthy enclaves.
Both are awesome, but the water is cold as heck. Last time I was out there was on a 4th of July weekend and we stayed in Laguna beach. The water was so cold I only got in up to my knees. When we lived there we were young and didn’t care how cold it was. LmaoYea I have no interest in living there but I've always wanted to check out their beaches and women lol

I thought a few car fans here might be interested in this: I got to drive the new Tesla Model 3 yesterday, thanks to a friend who got one to try out through his work.
I'm a big fan of the internal combustion engine, and remain one after this experience.
But this had some interesting features.
It is as near to driverless as a car can be right now, I'd say. In fact, synched to a garage door opener, it'll exit the garage by itself and meet you on the street. That was cool. And it does come pretty close to driving itself, though you wanna keep your hands on the wheel. Instead of a key or a fob, you have s black card about the size of a credit card that turns it on. No dash board -- all the controls are on a 15-inch flat computer screen. That takes some getting used to.
The headline for me: I'd never driven a totally electric car, and I was stunned at the acceleration from 20 mph to 70. It literally pinned me in my seat. Apparently bypassing all the moving parts between spark plug and transmission is an advantage.
It gets about 350 miles on a charge, and an icon shows you all the free charging ports around -- quite a few in the DC area.
As I said, it is not for me. But I wouldn't be surprised if in 20 years electric vehicles are very common. This thing is not a toy.
Good question Chief. I asked it too.How long does a recharge take?
Good question Chief. I asked it too.
And it'd be a drawback if you are traveling more than 300 miles (the limit on a charge.) It is basically an overnight deal to charge it all the way on a normal rate of charging. You can get a partial charge that'll take you about 100 miles in 45 minutes or so. Tesla has some stations that'll do a fast charge -- relatively speaking -- of, I think, about two hours for the full 300 miles. But that's a hell of a wait.
Bottom line -- the 525 mile drive I make from the suburbs of DC when I go to Kentucky to visit family would be a lot harder than a quick fill up half-way while my family grabs a bite, which is what I do now.
Sounds like a sensible deal for 95% or more of the time. Sounds like the average driver would only have to recharge at home about once a week. A longer-distance drive would require a second owned or rented vehicle. We senior members of the D won't be getting one but some of our junior members probably will.
Mrs Starchief and I are just gonna stick with what we've got.
I could be way off here, but I think someone told me before that when the batteries finally wear out, a new set cost about 4 grandGood question Chief. I asked it too.

Not only is the water cold but the beach communities are chilly and overcast until midday (if not all day). I lived within sight of the ocean. When I decided to buy, I bought in Santa Paula. It is ten miles inland and the weather was perfect. Ten miles farther east and the weather was downright hot.
Went down this morning to check Dad out of the hospital. Just got home. Those folks must get to charge for an extra day if you stay past 1600. He's got a clean bill of health for now. He has to take Plavix for a few weeks due to the stent. I can already tell he's breathing better.
When I was there it was unusual to see an unattractive woman and if you did you could assume she was there on vacation.
When was this? 10 or 50 years ago?
I was in Pismo Beach and the first day there I ran down the beach and into the water. I might have made it up to my waist and my feet were hurting because the water was so cold. I think it was 54°. I asked someone there when it would warm up and they said it was as warm as it was going to get. Pretty to look at, but not to touch.
I would say this aspect hasn't changed.
Hello everybody from the 4th Floor. I am feeling fantastic after 3 hours of surgery. The surgeon had estimated 90 minutes but said the mass was much larger than the scan led them to believe. Now they are flushing out my insides with at least 8 large bags of a sodium solution. As it goes through my bladder it gets clearer. It started as red and now looks like pink lemonade.Hope that Sawnee Cat is resting easy right now.

Best of all no pain and no pain medication. I may go home in the morning if clear. I will be home in front of the 60 inch for Saturday's UK game.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers. God certainly heard them. I could not be more pleased with how things are turning out. So I keep the faith and my God is great. Thanks D League. I appreciate y'all, yes I do
Good news, grandpa.Just got word, baby scheduled for...get this...Labor Day. Going for regular delivery, not c section. That is good news.
