My parents still belong and go every Sunday when they're in town. Sadly the church is dying on the vine. Within the past 20 years they never made much of an attempt to bring young people in.My wife was baptized in Walnut Street Baptist in 1971.
The late great Jesse Owens. It seems that this great athlete also qualifies as a great philosopher. Can you name him?
[When asked about how he felt years after Adolf Hitler refused to shake his hand at the Olympics] I'm here. He's not.
We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.
Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust

A lifetime of training for just ten seconds.
The battles that count aren't the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself - the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us - that's where it's at.
Although I wasn't invited to shake hands with Hitler, I wasn't invited to the White House to shake hands with the President either.
Find the good. It's all around you. Find it, showcase it and you'll start believing in it.
One chance is all you need.
Life doesn't give you all the practice races you need.
For a time, at least, I was the most famous person in the entire world.
The only bond worth anything between human beings is their humanness.
I let my feet spend as little time on the ground as possible. From the air, fast down, and from the ground, fast up.
If you don't try to win you might as well hold the Olympics in your backyard.

- Saw a 4 or 5 car pileup last night coming home. Those bad drivers just can't figure it out.

- Carry on.
That's where that pileup was.Morning Don, be careful on GA400.
For 21 years I traveled up and down that road and what I saw could fill a book. Once I was doing about 80 in the middle of the night and somebody passed me so fast their tail lights were out of sight before I knew what happened. Had to be doing about 125-130. Just crazy. That's where that pileup was.
You paid the preacher!Good Wednesday D.
Porch. Coffee. Overcast. 68 degrees.

I never got to meet them but am to this day still in awe of them. A favorite memory was when Rocky Marciano beat an aging Joe Louis and sat at ringside and cried after doing so.
Years later while in the Navy I had a conversation with Dick Pettigrew about that incident. I couldn't under stand why he cried. If I remember right he said that he thought that Rocky had so many emotions going on that he just broke down.
I took that to mean that Marciano had to wonder if he could have beat a younger Joe Louis. I can't remember what Rocky gave for a reason.
Davy was big for his age.
Happy birthday warrior cat. I bet you can pull it off. And an early happy birthday to the Mrs.Was working heavy until noon today, office shut down and took me out to lunch. Turned 61 today and trying to get out of the office early, wife's birthday is Friday and we ride together almost everyday since she works at Ft. Sill as well so, buying her present takes sneaky skill. Going to go all stealth on them here in about 10 minutes and disappear.
He will enjoy the holidays also in Europe. Good place to visit during the holiday season.
