Great photo. Americana at it's best

It seems that this great athlete also qualifies as a great philosopher. Can you name him?

[When asked about how he felt years after Adolf Hitler refused to shake his hand at the Olympics] I'm here. He's not.

We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.

Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust

A lifetime of training for just ten seconds.

The battles that count aren't the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself - the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us - that's where it's at.

Although I wasn't invited to shake hands with Hitler, I wasn't invited to the White House to shake hands with the President either.

Find the good. It's all around you. Find it, showcase it and you'll start believing in it.

One chance is all you need.

Life doesn't give you all the practice races you need.

For a time, at least, I was the most famous person in the entire world.

The only bond worth anything between human beings is their humanness.

I let my feet spend as little time on the ground as possible. From the air, fast down, and from the ground, fast up.

If you don't try to win you might as well hold the Olympics in your backyard.

The late great Jesse Owens.

70.7° F and 96% humidity. It was overcast all of yesterday and we got on little dribble of rain, not enough to measure. We could use an inch or two.

Wonderful day yesterday. I went through a bunch of pictures from my wife's aunt. I love old pictures.

August is here and on the 8th the Cats play. Yeah!

  • Good Morning, D-Leagueanites.
  • 72º in Johns Creek. Raining LACPOAFR. No wind thank goodness. Gloomy.
  • 1st mug of Dark Magic down.
  • All posts read and liked.
  • August 1st. Hump Day.
  • That's it.
  • Ready for the Bahama Basketball.
  • Football also.
  • Saw a 4 or 5 car pileup last night coming home. Those bad drivers just can't figure it out.
  • Drive safely out there. Watch it!
  • Carry on.

a stupid joke for your hump day:

A teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her class.

She came to the part of the story where first pig was trying to gather the building materials for his home.

She read. 'And so the pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said: 'Pardon me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?'

The teacher paused then asked the class: 'And what do you think the man said?'

One little boy raised his hand and said very matter-of-factly...

'I think the man would have said - 'I'll be a son of a bitch!! A talking pig!'

Morning Don, be careful on GA400.

Excited about the smell of football in the air and the Bahama Trip. I am trying to wrap up all of my little projects to be ready for the seasons. Go Cats

I met Jesse Owens and Joe Louis at The Sands in Las Vegas in the 60s.[/Q

I never got to meet them but am to this day still in awe of them. A favorite memory was when Rocky Marciano beat an aging Joe Louis and sat at ringside and cried after doing so.

Years later while in the Navy I had a conversation with Dick Pettigrew about that incident. I couldn't under stand why he cried. If I remember right he said that he thought that Rocky had so many emotions going on that he just broke down.

I took that to mean that Marciano had to wonder if he could have beat a younger Joe Louis. I can't remember what Rocky gave for a reason.

Was working heavy until noon today, office shut down and took me out to lunch. Turned 61 today and trying to get out of the office early, wife's birthday is Friday and we ride together almost everyday since she works at Ft. Sill as well so, buying her present takes sneaky skill. Going to go all stealth on them here in about 10 minutes and disappear.

Happy birthday warrior cat. I bet you can pull it off. And an early happy birthday to the Mrs.

  • Heck yeah. HBD to Warrior and Mrs. Warrior Friday. Man. I wish I was only 61.
  • Talked to #3 a few minutes ago. It was 21:15 at his base in Italy. He likes his Sgt. duty he said.
  • He may be home for Christmas. Lordy I miss that boy so much.
He will enjoy the holidays also in Europe. Good place to visit during the holiday season.

Hey happy Birthday Warrior! Enjoy your day!

at unclear: How you doin'?

Still above ground and feel pretty good. Since we returned to the river bank here in Ky. this spring it has been medical procedures and tests. She had a hip replacement early in April and one thing after another. But it is getting better.

I just got a little over an hour walk on the river, the heat, bugs and rain behaved. Meant to post this earlier but his machine, forum, me? Wouldn't work together.

Hey hey! Golf today and then to a friends house. We took a ride to Boones and I picked up another pork belly for dietary reasons. [winking] Cut the skin off of it, cubed it, then made a fresh batch of bbq rub for it. Might be my best batch yet. Might let it set and marinate until Friday when I'll have time to do it up right.

Speaking of Friday. Dad has an appointment on Friday morning. That's the only time I could make it and I had to OK it with the dialysis people for him to come at a later time than usual. I have to coordinate all of his medical appointments and transportation needs. The people who are supposed to take care of everything are just not competent enough for my tastes.

I guess it's best that way because he's the only person I have to keep track of and they have many. It's worth it.
