Opened up the egg a little and temp is up to 260° now and holding steady. Butt is at 180°. I'm delivering most of it to some people for their lunch today and it looks like everything should be on time. I'll probably keep 3lbs or so here.

Just realized as I was typing that, I forgot to put any onion powder in the rub I made. I put onion flakes in there. Oh well, I doubt anyone will take a bite and remark about the lack of onion powder. It's been on 15 hours now.

Well, in that case maybe I will just go ahead and hang on to your birthday present.

How good is this bourbon and what is the price.

Tell him to pack light, shave EVERYDAY(I tried to skip it one day), and to not look around in formation( we always had a DI saying "Hey you in the camouflage", and someone would look everytime. Anyways, tell him good luck for me, and ESSAYONS
.
Btw, here's some videos of what he can expect at 43D Reception(Grant Hall):

This first two are of the actual Fort Leonard Wood Reception:

They are lucky the one in my avatar is not their DI, I heard he was crazy. Well, that is what other Drill Instructors told me their privates were saying. Here is a little secret.....It was by design.

Good morning! Just heard my wife grinding coffee beans. Won't be long now.

I put 15 lbs of pork butt on the egg last night at 1800 and it's still on there now. Last time I checked it it was at 170°. I think I might have cooked it too low and slow. Had a dome temp of about 210°. Thermometer might be lying to me more than I thought though.

Mowing grass is a priority for the day.

Try to finish speakers.

That's enough.
Did that yesterday after work (mowed and weeded the grass) so I could have the next two days for rest and fun.

Beautiful day in the DMV (DC-Md-Va) My wife and I knocked off an 8-mile run, with limited humidity dragging us down. Now she wants me to help her pick out a pair of glasses. That, my friends, is dangerous ground.

I hope the coming week sees the Cats lock in Reid Travis and turn their attention to the Bahamas.

It was released this spring, sold in such a limited quantity that most of us have no hope of seeing it let alone buying it. Just 710 bottles were filled, shipped, and sold by retailers. That’s a tiny fraction of what typical Pappy Van Winkle stocks look like in the fall. The reason the release is so small is there were only 11 barrels of this quarter-century-old bourbon.

The bourbon was distilled in the spring and fall of 1989 and stored on the lower levels of a metal clad warehouse built in 1935 at the Van Winkle family distillery in Shively, Kentucky. In 2002 the barrels were moved to Buffalo Trace Distillery, where they continued to age for another 12 years on the lower floors in Buffalo Trace’s brick warehouses. This is original Van Winkle from the long ago closed distillery. Which is unheard of.

The box is made of the barrel staves that held the bourbon.

Suggested retail price $1,800.00

Current asking market price $12,000-$16,000

Is that the butt temp or the heat index today in Louisville?

Not much difference in the two today.

Can't wait for ymmot to deliver my pork butt!:D

I delivered it to the people. They were very happy. Excellent bark after a 16.5 hour cook.

I've never been much of a train fan. Yes, I was drunk but I remember the day my mom got out of prison and I went to pick her up in the rain. But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck - she got runned over by a damned old train. :joy:

That's a heck of a story, darlin.

Train yards were high adventure, great risk, great reward. . . worthy of Momma's switch.

Wow, maybe I can find a well to do friend who likes to share. There is this Canadian I have heard of....

He probably bought a case of it.

Ymmot, Bert has a tanker full he took as part of his retirement when leaving the CSX. CSX doesn't know about it. It's buried behind his guest house in a charcoal wood lined tanker.

He's almost a billionaire and that doesn't count the money the USRRB sends him and his wife every month. LOL
