"DeMarcus Cousins intends to sign a contract extension with the Sacramento Kings worth an estimated $207 million over five years.

Cousins and the Kings have discussed numbers and a deal will be done in the offseason barring a late change in direction by either side."

Under the new CBA, Cousins is in line for the league’s designated player exception, which allows Sacramento to give their franchise cornerstone an additional five-years on top of his current deal, keeping him with the Kings through the 22-23 season.

Cousins can sign for a starting salary up to 35 percent of the salary cap.

Cousins previously signed a four-year max contract in September of 2013 that was set to expire in 2018.

Damnit. DMC is my alltime favorite player and this makes me sad. He will never be thought of as one of the greats if he stays there. They will never win anything. That money will come and go but his legacy will last forever. Go to a contender and get paid there DeMarcus.

I hear what you're saying, but even if the money won't last forever for him, it could last a really long time for his family and friends.

He could always sign elsewhere after this contract ends to chase championships.

And any real NBA fans and experts know how insanely good he is, even if he plays in Sacramento.

A good argument can be made both for and against taking this offer. There is really no wrong answer, just a matter of personal preference for Demarcus.

Will be one of the richest losers of all time...congratz!

I would just go to a different team and take a slight pay cut. You're cashing out whether it's 40 M a year or 37 M. It'd just be hard to play on a team that's has 0 chance year in year out. He needs to team up with Wall now that'd be something

For all the talk yearly about the Kings wanting to trade big Cuz I can't see them putting that type of money on him. I honestly thing he is the most productive big man in the NBA but he does need to clean his attitude up. He gets a bad rap from past outburst but he brings alot on himself.

I'm all for making money, but Boogie is on a Carmelo path.

Absolutely a travesty that Carmelo never seemed remotely interested in anything other than being the highest paid player and getting his check in addition to getting all the buckets.

This type of thing really deprives the franchise, player, and game of some real opportunities.

"well these big deals are in place to keep big players in small markets"...does that really help the game?...Sac town keeps a star, but can't win with him a lone. You can piece together a decent squad for 200 mil.

If Sac and Boogie part ways an opportunity opens up for two good things to happen. Sac has some cash to really build something and a great player has the chance to join a better situation and make play off runs.

Same goes for AD in new orleans...he and new orleans are going to really limit themselves. I'm glad he is a break the bank talent, and I'm glad new orleans wants to pay him but that perpetuates the problem in the NBA.

I'm not necessarily advocating for super teams. I don't think Boogie or any star absolutely has to or should join a "super team" but just a better team. Don't leave Sac, or NO for Cleveland or San Diego both of whom already have 3 superstars...maybe look at Toronto or Washington...play off teams that are a Boogie or AD away from really taking the next step and being legit challengers...

Of course it works the other way as well...instead of staying put and maxing out, stay put and leave a little cash for the brass to go out and find you some help. In Boogie's case, I think the situation is so toxic because boogie is hard to handle and he and the management don't seem to work well together, I think it's best for both to part ways.

The only loser in this is the Kings. Cousins and his are set for life. Kings well.. you get the best big man in the league. What are you going to do with that?

Cousins is making the right move here.

Over 40M a year.

What a time to be alive.

At the end of the day when the Kings are still awful through that contract and he's on the down slope of his career, no one is gonna remember how much money he made. They'll just remember if he won. And he won't.

Yeah but think of the beer he can afford to cry his tears into...

There is no doubt Cuz is the most productive big in the league. He is putting up HOF numbers. And some of his advanced numbers are ALL TIME GREAT category, stuff that no one has done. Its a shame that A: Sac has sucked and B: his troubles. He should be a superstar fan wise.

Yeah but the real question? Will George Karl get to cut Boogie this time? He still knows best.

$207 million is always the right move. At the end of deal he'll be 32, which is not that old for a NBA big guy. He can still get on with a contender and maybe win a title. And I'll just say, as much as we all value titles, I don't know if most of the players really care that much. I'd take over 200 mil if it meant I never got a title. I'm just surprised he stayed because of how unhappy he seems with the team. But again... 207 million.

Maybe he loves the city of Sacramento. Maybe he is more worried about being happy than winning.
Maybe he isnt concerned with his legacy.

He is a quirky dude no question. You're right that he will probably fade away when he retires and nobody will remember him because he played for a loser franchise. If he signs this extension I think it speaks volumes as to what is important to him.... And it has to be more than just money because he can get paid anywhere.

Either way, 40 mil a year to play hoops. Unreal

You guys really think folks wont remember him? The sameway we forgot Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Stockton, Barkley(i know we cant forget him) Dom wilkins,Gervin, Reggie Miller, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton. And guys like Vince Carter, McGrady, Carmello, Iverson for the current era of players that havent and most likely wont win championships Winning is something by all means and DMC hasnt but in the end there is only one champ.

I'd do a lot less than playing for the Kings for 207 million dollars.

There has been lots of great players who never sniffed a title. And for everyone saying how shitty the Kings are, and they are...where do you want him to go for 200 mil? The Cavs? Warriors? Lmao Where do you think he will be any better off that can pay him what he's worth? There's only a handful of teams that have a legit shot at a title run and none of those can afford Boogie without dumping a shit ton of stars/quality players which will you guessed it...make them really no different than the Kings are now. By all accounts, Boogie loves Sacramento and the community that he is very active in and if he hated it so bad, he'd leave. Him accepting 40 million a year should make NO one "sad."

Isn't it weird in this country that it is perfectly ok for multi- millionaires in entertainment and sports to have unions , but it is the most terrible thing going for some folks just trying to make a living and raise a family to belong to one...only in America and I'm a Republican before you start.

Why in the heck would Cuz care who remembers how much money he made? Cuz should only care about how much money he keeps. That part does not make any sense. Oh well...

Big mistake for him in my mind. He would get rich anywhere else in the league and have a chance to win a title as well as make a long lasting name for himself. Would he get as much as this deal, probably not but how many tens of millions do you need to satisfy your needs in this world. Wish he would rethink and maybe take less (but still a boatload of money) from a better team with a chance to be competitive. Go to Boston, Boogie!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave Sacramento for Boston...guess you must love winter!!!??

I would think he has reasons outside of just the money. Even if he doesn't that's way more than anyone else could give him.

Cuz has shown his true colors already. He is about the kids. No better calling than what Cuz is doing unless you are a PT type...

And by the time he pays all those insane California taxes he would prob be better off playing for less in a different state. He'll he could go to Florida and play for the Heat for 25 mil and come out better.
