CI Wrestling Thread #56

I thought that show sucked. Rumble was predictable. No nostalgia participants. Don’t give a single damn about Bad Bunny or Johnny Knoxville.

WWE is simply not a good product right now.

I really hope Vince does something with Austin Theory. I know a lot of people don't like Cornette but he's spot on with this kid. There's no denying Corny's eye for talent. This kid has the work rate, look, charisma, and work ethic to really be the one to carry the company through the 20's. He and MJF are probably the two best up and comers in the business. MJF blows him out of the water on the mic right now, but Theory is the superior talent. They are 24 and 25. Throw in Rex Steiner who also is 24 and you really have a nice foundation to build on (especially if the Federation can get MJF down the road.

Like Jim said, he thinks Theory right now is better than Hangman (not disparaging Page at all) who AEW has as their world champion. That said, it's untellin if WWF will be able to or even know how capitalize on that. With the likes of Roman, Macintyre, Lashley, Lesnar, and to a lesser extent Orton still performing at a big time main event level, Theory will still have to pay his dues and work his way up the ranks opposed to a Steiner who I think has already has the rocket strapped to him and they're just letting him get his feet wet before coming up. The fact is the pieces are there for a really good product. That's not even counting some of the promising stars like Kofi, Big E, Riddle, etc. They just need to find someone who can carry the company forward. Someone with a real wrestling mind needs brought in to work alongside the folks with the entertainment minds. Too much old school well taught talent to be wasted away with shitty booking and storylines.

Sasha is insanely hot, but I have a thing for tiny blondes. Give me Tay and Alexa.

I don't know what Sailor Moon is, but I got a heavy anime vibe

Pwinsider reporting Riddle was originally scheduled to win the Rumble. However plans changed close to 20 times over the weekend before they went with Lesnar winning.

ROH is starting a Hall Of Fame, the first two people to be inducted are the Briscoes.

Why do I feel this is the creative team of WWE?

Also it’s pretty sad Shane McMahon who the fans basically booed him off of television they couldn’t stand him so much a few years ago got a spot in the rumble but Cesaro and Balor couldn’t

WWE employees whose primary job duties are NOT wrestling should be required to forgo their chance to wrestle as a term of employment.

Nope, nvm. I tried. I can’t watch this. A scooter race to see if they get a title shot? Gable and Otis don’t even win matches! How are they the tag champs?!

Typical WWF booking of a show. Starts out Hot, stays pretty solid then all of a sudden out of nowhere, they completely overshadow the show with dumb shit like a scooter race between a job guy who is somehow a champion and a potential superstar that they have doing hokey shit with computer generated birds flying out of his ass. The Lashley/Lesnar, Theory/KO stuff is great. It's just forgotten because of the dumb shit.

It's time to retire that ignorant ass 24/7 belt too. It was funny for the first few months but now it's puke TV.

Went to mania last year and it’s crazy how big of a star Bad Bunny is. I actually enjoyed him and he came out on fire with a huge pop after his match even though it had a terrible build up.

From the dirt sheets: Shane McMahon heat
By the time they had that wrestkemania match, I was kinda over modern wrestling anyways, but when Shane was allowed to go toe to toe with the undertaker…

I don’t do ratings, stars. Etc, but that was the worst match in wrestling history. I’d rather watch a compilation of AEW, PWG and GCW than ever see that match again

Man, I just don’t get why they are pushing Theory so hard. He’s forgettable in the ring and has an annoying gimmick. At least they let Riddle get a big win over Otis.

I don't normally watch Ethan Page's vlogs, but the most recent one was shot at Toy Vomit here in Lexington where he, Danhausen, Swoggle and SRS went toy shopping. It's pretty entertaining if you have 30 minutes to watch.

As per Mike Johnson of PWInsider Matt Riddle was originally scheduled to win the Royal Rumble match.

Johnson wrote, "Plans were changed over the course of the week a ton of times with the final decision to have Brock Lesnar enter and win as a surprise. At one point, there was a pitch for Randy Orton to win as well, but Riddle was the frontrunner until the switch to Brock was made.”

Another report said that the Rumble match was apparently changed more than 20 times on the day of the Rumble and instead of having it booked to get someone from the roster over the idea was to get Shane McMahon over. And to make Lesnar look really strong as according to WWE those are the two biggest storylines headed towards Wrestlemania. Shane is scheduled to wrestle in Saudi Arabia and at Mania.

Another report states that when the pitch was made for Orton to win the Rumble since it was in his hometown Orton had turned down the offer and suggested that they revert to the original plan of Riddle winning since he is the future. Orton apparently did everything he could to get Riddle booked to win. Or at least be the last person to be eliminated. However apparently since Brock Lesnar personally does not like Riddle he disagreed and thus plans were scratched off.
