CI Wrestling Thread #56

There's definitely things that kill me in regards to wrestling and this is one of them. That list also includes

- Missing a punch and then staying crunched over to take the next move
- Standing outside the ring to catch the person about to jump into a crowd of wrestlers who then act as if they took a grenade blast.
- A finisher becomes less devastating when you become a heel.
It’s the power of God kind sir.
Also Pac is coming back and having a tag match next week. Pac and Penta vs house of black.

Didn’t someone who was champ win the rumble and pick their wrestlemania opponent or is that just part of the rules?

Dynamite did 1.1 million viewers and a .41 in the demo, second only to the Suns-Jazz game which did a .43

Also an interesting look at how Peacock is doing.

Studio streaming services are just generally going to have a tough time surviving unless they do like Apple or HBO with a catalog that's based on high quality and/or elite level franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, etc.

NBCUniversal and the like all saw the success of stuff like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu and thought they could make more money by taking their content in-house when, for the most part, they largely operate on a model of high quantity, medium to low level quality with very little original content. And these studios are largely putting out some pretty mediocre original streaming content on their platforms because their best original content is still going to make them more money on regular TV.

And PEacock's biggest problem is largely the fact that their biggest customer base, which accounts for wewll beyond 50% of its active subscribers, is Comcast internet customers who get Peacock Premium with ads for free and people who only subscribe to the free tier. They had over 24 million active subscribers in Q4, they only have 9 million paying customers. Not just active, paying customers (who make more money by watching ads), but 9 million total paying customers.

They can't see the big picture, all they see is short term dollars. Netflix has 222 million subscribers. If Netflix was a country, it would be the 5th biggest country in the world. You can get more eyeballs on a show on Netflix than you'll ever get anywhere else. Stuff becomes a massive hit on Netflix because it gets so many eyeballs on it. The Office became such a cultural sensation because it was on Netflix and everyone who was subscribing to a streaming TV service at the time was more than likely subscribing to Netflix. They make hits out of shows for almost no other reason than the fact they are on Netflix.

Now you slice off that audience into dozens of different streaming services, and you're capping the # of subscribers you're going to get. Which means less people are watching your content and they are paying a lower price to get it. That means less chance your content is going to become a hit. That means less chance your content is going to drive subscriber growth. If you can't grow subscribers, you can't get more money without getting investors you have to pay back and debt spending. And how long are the investors going to want to invest when you're always getting your ass kicked by Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney, and HBO Max?

Quality > quantity if you're going to be a niche service, which is basically everything outside of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime because the rest are already largely limited with what they can offer because they don't really do much in the way of licensed content, it's all what they own from linear TV/movies and original streaming programming.

In a way I think the services have influenced what people watch. I can't remember the last network show I watched religiously - off the top of my head it was 24, There are probably great shows on ABC/NBC/CBS right now but I'm unlikely to consider them becuase there is so much chatter about stuff on Hulu/Netflix/Prime/HBO.

Lee and Brock v. FTR is actually fun
AEW did a good job making all the losers but Julia Hart look good tonight without hurting the winners any at all, in my opinion. Twas nice for them to let Julia Hart get some offense in. She still didn't come off good by any means, but she also didn't come off as looking like a 100% joke of a wrestler.

Question about CM Punk. Would he have been as popular with an in-house song intro for him like everyone else in the company versus having a well established main stream song to get him over?

Admittedly, I know nothing about him. Katie Vick drove me away from wrestling and I didn't pick back up until after he was long gone. It just seems like a huge advantage to have the main stream song. The only WWE person I have seen with main stream music was Rousey.

I ask because from what very little I have seen of AEW, my favorite wrestler is Orange Cassidy. Because of his entrance music.

Living Colour was great opening for the Stones at the old Cardinal Stadium. HaHa you young punks. I heard Cult of Personality before you were even born.

I don’t think it would have mattered. Phil was never a top shelf worker and is overrated on the mic IMO. Had he not taken 7 years off, nobody would give a shit.

Did y’all see wwe was going to induct Jeff Hardy in the hall of fame but he turned it down
Apparently WWE had a second heart on releasing him when they realized what that means for AEW. So they reached out to bring him back and offered to put him in the hall of fame if he does return.

Edge’s song “Metalingus” is really damn good by Alter Bridge, lead by Myles Kennedy who also sings for Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. He also played Thor in the Mark Wahlberg movie “Rock Star” replacing the lead singer at the end of the movie. Dude can sing some metal.

Whys her last name not McMahon? She get remarried I reckon? Vince have a step daddy?

Hahahaha

How you going to end a universal title match on a PPV on a DQ? Especially after botching two of Rollins' pin attempts that clearly should have been three counts with the curb stomp and pedigree?

I’m not watching anymore of the Royal Rumble out of protest. WWE always got to be doing some stupid bullshit to ruin good things.

I'd drink a gallon of Kelly Kelly's piss just to see where it came from.

I may not hate a woman rassler more than Bianca Belair. I used to like her but she's so manufactured that it's nausiating. You can guarantee she's going to do that stupid skip while spinning her hair and every damn promo consists of "Gurlllll uh uh" or "You don't even go here".
