CI Wrestling Thread #56

It would be Vince McMahon level stupidity to ever put the AEW title belt on Lance Archer, which is why it makes zero sense why he is getting a push with the champ. Let him have a run at the TNT belt instead. That's about what his peak should be.

Rumors - some already discussed on here - sad Balor didn’t go to aew

How many tv appearances did this guy have in AEW? Seems he was there long enough to have a cup of coffee. Guess he has burned bridges with WWE and AEW.
Dude had two strikes and a foot out the door but TK still gave him a chance, and he STILL effed it up royally. You know his next retirement is imminent.

Following on from reports that further AEW talent departures are expected after news that Peter Avalon's contract has expired and Lio Rush's is about to, details on a trio of wrestlers working on soon-to-expire deals have emerged.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports that Marko Stunt, Joey Janela, and Brian Cage all have deals that are due to come up soon.

Janela's situation was already well-known. 'The Bad Boy' himself has previously commented that his contract is due to expire in May, quipping that he "needs to step it up."Recently, Joey told Fightful that he enjoys working with AEW and wants to stick around.

Cage, meanwhile, has not been used on AEW television since October 2021, though he has been active on the independent scene for such promotions as XPW, VxS, and REVOLVER. Johnson notes that Brian has been backstage regularly since then, however.

Like Janela, Stunt has been with AEW since its first year of operation, 2019. He had been attached to Jurassic Express until recently, but hasn't wrestled for them since September. He has quietly disappeared from his televised role, with Christian Cage now featured alongside Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus on television.

I think XPW ran one show and had less than 200 people attend. They had a show in California last night, heard nothing about it.’

Pretty cool, Edge came to check out the match between FTR and the Rock and Roll Express last night. Apparently went about 30 minutes and was really good.

GCW PPV tonight was a let down. The trios match and ladder matches were good. Everything else was a letdown. It all went downhill with that records promo by Allie Katch, which was awful, excessively repetitive, and was completely devoid of charisma and energy.

Cardona’s match was beyond overbooked, the **** was the point of having Virgil, Seoggke, Mark Stunt, and that really large guy get involved?

They had Ruby Soho and Jeff Jarrett win over their regulars instead of putting them over, what did that possibly accomplish for the future of GCW?

Having to replace the ROH title match with Lio Rush vs. Christian Blake was disappointing.

Moxley vs. Homicide ended up largely being uncompelling.

They completely ruined the main event by having zero idea how to pace a show. That match lasted like what, five minutes? And they give the belts to Nick Gage (understandable given how over he is) and Matt Tremont? Come on man, you couldn't find Gage a better tag partner than the #358 ranked singles competitor by PWI?

He doesn’t weigh like 250+ so he doesn’t matter to Vince. If Shawn Michaels was some young guy rising up the wrestling rankings today and joined the WWE, Vince would have him jobbing out to all the big guys.

I halfway understand him not liking Adam Cole because of his physique. I don’t think it should matter but at least it makes sense. Finn is shredded though.

Guessing Finn was part of the first wave of plucking njpw/roh talent - pretty much ever since Seth hurt him on raw they pretty much wrote him off - really sad he hasn’t gotten a feud with AJ or went to aew

i saw a gif on reddit showing all of the winners of the Royal Rumble celebrating their victory. And good God does Alberto del Rio stick out like a sore thumb
By far, my most hated wrestler ever. I loathe him. I loathed him when he was in the main event scene. Taking the title off Punk to give to Del Rio in L.A. just because he was Mexican was awful. Any time they do the pandering because of someone's race is just the worst. Who was pining for Del Rio or Mahal to win the WWE title?

Del Rio and Sheamus winning the 2011 and 2012 Rumbles were such a disappointment.

I may be misremembering it but I feel like Del Rio had a lot of buzz behind him then. I know he was decent in the ring and as a kid at the time I hated him because he was such an asshole on the mic....off course I later found out he was just an asshole in general.

Got about 60 pages left in this Moxley book. The book is in no order and jumps around all over the place. He did a lot of drugs and parting. The death match stuff is not my scene. His childhood stuff was super interesting.

Circus 2011 while doing the dark matches a year before The Shield debut, he said Daniel Bryan told him to never ask for advice from anyone there because inevitably it will be bad and when you don’t do it, you will get heat.

Ambrose had a lot of heat before debuting because after one of his dark matches he got stiffed and concussed (didn’t say who) and he MF’d him in front of the main roster in the back but Ambrose had no memory of it.

Rollins also said Punk told them before their Shield debut that people were in Ryback’s ear to not sell for The Shield (Ambrose said Ryback was a good guy and that wasn’t a problem but just in case, they were going to beat the shit out of him). The Shield power bomb was just a pragmatic thing, never intended to be a finisher.

The AEW "explosion" was the most embarrassing thing said it made him want to put a gun in his mouth (hyperbole). Tony was telling to cut a promo to try and save this! LOL. "Everybody said we couldn't trust fireworks" and now he felt like a teenager got jerkin off.

- Said the house shows are the most fun (As a fan, I easily agree) and was usually left alone. Then Vince watched a post Christmas house show at MSG and was mortified. Said Vince started infiltrating the house shows and telling the producers 30 minutes before bell time for Mox to say these dumb promos and try to script the entire match.

Totally disagree here. And Finn isn't exactly a young guy rising through the ranks. He's peaked. Shawn was a better worker, better promo, was way more over than Finn is capable of being. And that isn't a slight on Finn - but comparing him to one of the top 2-3 of all time seems a bit off.

kinda OT, but since was mentioned…

Why does Finn Balor always do that stupid pose in pics with his arms to his side, making him look like a dildo?
