CI Wrestling Thread #56

How many years til AEW goes under or is sold?
How many years will people keeping asking the same dumb question?

AEW isn’t going anywhere for a very long time unless something catastrophic happens. Tony ain’t selling his baby and they won’t go under.

A certain king dipshit gave them like 6 months when they first started. That goal post just keeps moving further and further just like all the other goal posts people set for AEW. They’ve hit them all so far.

Hell, I hope AEW sticks around for a long time. We desperately need some kind of alternative even though it's far from perfect. I can't even look at WWE right now. Those bastards broke me.

Settle down, Steve.

I certainly never said they’d only last six months. Ridiculous. They’re a fun option but many have tried and failed to match WWE. AEW will never be on that level. They can last awhile but you won’t be doing the wrestling hipster shtick 20 years from now regarding AEW.

They’re fun. They’re new. Hopefully they can maintain it but chill out on the absurd predictions.

Just posting facts here to digest…
TK dad told his kids they going to inherit a lot of money when he dies so he said spend some while he’s alive…

took 100 mil to start up aew
8 figure investment in video game
Rev was 70 mil last year although that was during a pandemic

so even if in red it’s not a typical business so prob won’t fold anytime soon since it’s tk’s money if he wants to keep doing it he prob will

You cannot compare a 2yr old company to a 40 yr old company and say well it’s no WWE. Of course it isn’t. But let us not forget that even WWE has almost filed bankruptcy in the early 90s. WWE is surviving on its name alone right now and not it’s product. But how long will that last? People forget names, that’s been done before. Will AEW become the next big wrestling corporation? Probably not, but who knows. And who cares. Enjoy the show instead of asking when someone is gonna fold. Cause it could be anyone.

AEW needs international penetration and exposure. That doesn't happen overnight. WWE's long-cultivated popularity overseas gives them a huge advantage over all competitors.

In addition to HIAC tonight we have the finale of Most Wanted Treasures with Ric Flair looking for stuff.

Finished the Andre one, it was interesting and Sonny Onoo came off like a big d-bag.

Sorry I didn’t mean you on the six month deal. I meant Cornette.

And it’s not ridiculous. Hell tna has lasted over 20 years and they’ve been horrible for over half of it with people not even being able to find the channel they’re on. If you think AEW can’t outlast that then I don’t know what to tell ya.

I haven’t watched AEW since before the last ppv because these Friday shows have seemed like complete filler. I’ll be ready to watch them when they’re back to touring and on Wednesday again. Doesn’t seem like I’ve really missed much these last several weeks though.

Speaking of which, they’re close to signing a tv deal in India. It’ll be a tough market to crack because everyone over there jacks off to Reigns for some weird reason. But if it catches on there then that would be a big boost.

The perfect storm already happened to put AEW out of business and it didn’t happen. Most any other company just a few months into existence would have had to shut down or disband when the pandemic started and all the touring and ticket sales stopped.

AEW weathered that storm and came out of it in as good or better shape than they were going into it. Plus they only let go of 3 people the entire time. 1 for behavior and 2 due to travel restrictions. Not to mention they kept half or more of the indie wrestles afloat with matches and paychecks with all the dark matches.

Agree about Miro, why they wasted his first few months is beyond me.
AEW plans long term on a lot of things and rarely veer away from the plan unless something happens out of their control. They had Darby beating Cody for the TNT title earmarked for a very long time. So they couldn’t put the tnt title on Miro right away and they didn’t want to have another big signing get put in an AEW title match only to lose.

So they basically had to stall for time to let Darby have his title run. The stuff with Miro and Kip wasn’t great but they did keep him very strong the entire time. He’s still yet to be pinned in AEW.

So now WWE is so bad they're taking the worst ideas AEW has? A crash pad for a choke slam onto a table? I'm lost... I'm literally lost...

Idk what that one post about Reigns was - pretty strange - I’m not a reigns fan by any means but he’s the best thing going right now. Everything he does is just working and gets better prob b/c Heyman is involved.

You’ve got to be born in the late 90s at best. No way you’re older than 21.

Well let's see what have I missed over the last couple of days. Whoever was asking about Dynamite IMO the first Friday show was really good, the last two didn't do much for me.

Friday's show did 522,000 viewers up from the week before. Think they are saving up for this Saturday and then the return to the road.

Is Nikki Cross Molly Holly 2.0 now?

Toni Storm came out as Bi, so there's that.

And 25 years ago today Austin 3:16 was born.

In what's probably the least surprising news ever, PWInsider is reporting WWE will run MSG in New York for Smackdown on Friday, September 10th.
Of course AEW is running Newark, N.J 9/15 and Arthur Ashe Stadium on 9/22

Decided to buy tickets for the OVW PPV on Saturday. Anyone been to a show yet since Matt bought it?

I was just having an AEW fan boy moment since that was all that was on Twitter yesterday. Reportedly WWE has had a hold on that date since December. Hadn't even thought about the next day is the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

Rumor is more WWE cuts are coming as soon as today.

I haven't been to an OVW show yet but would like to.
