CI Wrestling Thread #56

Think this was discussed earlier - wonder if DB is the one hesitant to sign?

Keller: There’s gonna a book written someday by some of these EVP’s or someone else closely observing and we’re gonna learn about a lot of dysfunction. We’re gonna learn what a very short honeymoon period there was between certain key people in the company, who aren’t even talking to each other anymore. I think we’re gonna find that out. I know there are people in other wrestling companies saying The Bucks and Cody and Kenny it’s not gonna be long at all before they want to have nothing to do with each other. The honeymoon period is going to be short. It seems like it is. It seems like there’s some disengagement and people going off into their own that is showing up in certain ways...

Powell: If that is not happening, they need to clear up that misconception. I do think it’s happening... there’s a would-be difference maker who could go there that has that opinion that there’s all this in-fighting and this person for that reason is hesitant to go there.
That’s surprising because Meltzer would write the complete opposite, lol

but honestly, heating those Marshall quotes about the booking....

The new Bucks bio says “currently not on speaking terms.” Cody retweeted it. Dave addressed it and said it wasn’t true.

can’t believe ppl bought into something that was started by Cornette and his sidekick.

I talked about this before, for about five or six years 1999- 2004 I went to a number of IWA Mid-South shows including the King Of The Death Match ones. Back then I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, now I'm like why did I like that so much.

I want to go to their shows because I've seen all the great wrestlers that have been there in the past. But I don't want to go in hopes of seeing the next CM Punk and end up just paying $20 for a bunch of light tubes and the next James Elsworth

I went to a good deal of IWA shows between 07-12. Saw a lot of crazy deathmatches, but did see guys like Low Ki, Delirious, Cesaro, Ricochet, Chuck Taylor.

The weirdest show I went to was in the back area of the Rustic Frog strip club. I had fun at their shows, but don’t think I could watch them these days (if Ian is running it still).

He is (unfortunately), LOL

Rollins didn’t help Roman, he just came out and beat up Cesaro after the match. Roman / Rollins is going to headline Summerslam.

Deserves Dave’s lowest rating ever

he gave a match between the Bushwhackers vs. The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff -459.4 stars.

Bushwhackers (Brian Wickens & Robert Miller) beat Iron Sheik (Hossein Khosrow Vaziri) & Nikolai Volkoff (Josip Peruzovic) in 8:42. The Bushwhackers are both in their mid-50s while Sheik is 61 and Volkoff is 52. Sheik could barely walk. The heels came out with a manager called Nikita Breshnikoff, who is actually Volkoff’s real-life roommate. Sheik twirled clubs that looked like they weighed about ten pounds each. This 140-pound guy brought the clubs to the ring. Sheik challenged Hulk Hogan and Bob Backlund. Snow vs. Bossman suddenly looked like Benoit vs. Otani. Volkoff hit Sheik with an object and Butch pinned him. Sheik & Volkoff teased a split after the match. -459.4 stars (absolute zero, this is the worst match I’ve ever rated in my life)

It was promoted as a Lumberjack match with mystery lumberjacks. The PPV was sponsored by Batista's movie Army of the Dead and the mystery lumberjacks turned out to be the zombies from the movie.

But AEW's Blood And Guts set wrestling back 30 years...
Batista's response on Twitter was pretty hilarious, but not safe for work.

Speaking on AEW looks like Warner Media and Discovery are merging. Wonder if that could be beneficial to them.

I mean, that’s how you go out. Amiright? But I think they should do a little more. They were indie darlings right and AEWs first tag champs. Give em love and do a special for em. Not a whole episode like Brodie, but perhaps a 20min segment

At one time, the Mr. McMahon character brought in the NWO to "inject poison" into WWE, and nearly 20 years later it's Vince himself trying to kill his own product with movie matches, a never ending gothic Bliss/Fiend storyline, train sounds attached to a bullied strong man, and now zombie lumberjacks.

CM Punk was wrong. The WWE will be better once Vince is dead.

when you say movie matches, do you mean cinematic matches like Styles/Taker or do you mean the zombies playing lumber jack and eating wrestlers?

So it's hard to complain about anyone that takes a belt of Nia's uber untalented ass, but I have to say that Tamina's "splash" finisher is pretty awful. Right up there with Karrion Kross' elbow and/or choke and Braun's power slam.
