CI Wrestling Thread #56

Also, AJ Styles did not invent the move that is called the "Styles Clash," nor does he somehow "own" the move. Yes, he has made it famous, just as DDP made the diamond cutter famous, and just as SCSA made the stunner famous, but the move itself was around before these wrestlers gave them a catchy name. That doesn't give any of them IP rights to the move (although the name of the move can be trademarked).

So the only thing that I find problematic is that the announce team actually called it the "Styles Clash." BUT when Styles went to WWE, he specifically held onto the rights to "The Phenomenal One" and "Styles Clash," and I'm guessing Kazarian/AEW obtained permission to use the name of the move directly from Styles.

Good point

More like Stupid F....

(I'm kidding Zay)

Thought on music...

If I (as a pretend promotion) could get "real" music for just "a little more" than original music? Absolutely. If it cost a lot? No. Why? Did Punk draw more money because of "Cult of Personality"? Nope.
Speaking of Punk what is the latest rumor regarding when and where he will show up to wrestle? I mean I don't blame him for retiring if he doesn't need the money because let's be honest, if I were married to AJ Lee I wouldn't ever want to leave home either.

OC (Where is My Mind) and Jungle Boy (Tarzan Boy) have licensed songs that fit them well. However, I didn't care for Wild Thing as Moxley's theme song. It's a good classic song, just doesn't match his character well. Would be better to license some hard-driving heavy metal song for him.

AJ Lee was great. But would she work well in WWE now, what with the emphasis on actual wrestling rather than "Divas?"
If she walked in tomorrow she’d easily be in the top half of the women’s roster just based on her mic skills alone - sure she’s probably would have to work on her move set a bit but she has a uniqueness that’s needed on the main roster.

Interesting news if true. Cody is never on BTE anymore but is all over Sammy Guevara's blog every week.

As one of the commenters said like it or not in WWE Vince has the final say on things. Wonder if TK will step up and do that.

If they want to keep Wild Thing they should use the version by X from Major League. That's was Onita used.

Reading Twitter after Cody’s promo made me sick. The amount of people trashing it blew my mind. It was all due to Cody being proud of America. I get foreigners not caring for it but the amount of Americans I saw trashing the promo and the USA was crazy. There’s a lot of people that don’t deserve to live here.

As for the styles clash: SCU/Bucks/Good Bros all have a very long history with AJ. It fit the story perfectly.

And the same rumors of Cody vs the Elite came up back in December of 2019 as well. Some said it was why Scurll didn’t sign with AEW. I think it’s just bs that people are using for clicks. Use the fact that Cody has only been on BTE a couple times in the last year and people buy into it.

Welcome to socialist America

I talked about this before, for about five or six years 1999- 2004 I went to a number of IWA Mid-South shows including the King Of The Death Match ones. Back then I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, now I'm like why did I like that so much.

He is certainly up there. I've seem wrestlers do some incredibly stupid crap for very little money. Luckily not in person. But watching people jump off of balconies and hit each other with weed whackers for what was probably $50 at most is dumb.

Hell I still think Mick Foley is dumb for flying off the cage and I'm sure he was well compensated for that.

If they were going to do an episode on death match/garbage wrestling, why not have the subject be Terry Funk? At least we all like him. I was honestly embarrassed as a fan watching this clown's episode.

Think this was discussed earlier - wonder if DB is the one hesitant to sign?

Keller: There’s gonna a book written someday by some of these EVP’s or someone else closely observing and we’re gonna learn about a lot of dysfunction. We’re gonna learn what a very short honeymoon period there was between certain key people in the company, who aren’t even talking to each other anymore. I think we’re gonna find that out. I know there are people in other wrestling companies saying The Bucks and Cody and Kenny it’s not gonna be long at all before they want to have nothing to do with each other. The honeymoon period is going to be short. It seems like it is. It seems like there’s some disengagement and people going off into their own that is showing up in certain ways...

Powell: If that is not happening, they need to clear up that misconception. I do think it’s happening... there’s a would-be difference maker who could go there that has that opinion that there’s all this in-fighting and this person for that reason is hesitant to go there.
