Chris Mack’s Drunken Post Game Video UK vs UL

BOZICH | Kenny Payne says Eric Wood, Chris Mack made video celebrating Louisville win to tease him

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kenny Payne wanted to make several things perfectly clear.

The video that former University of Louisville football player Eric Wood and men’s basketball coach Chris Mack made appearing to dis Kentucky basketball John Calipari was a joke between friends, intended to tease Payne.

Payne said that Kentucky basketball was great before he joined the program and will remain great now that Payne works for the New York Knicks.

And, Payne said, Calipari is a close friend and longtime mentor. Wood is also his buddy and was just giving him a hard time.

"Eric doesn’t deserve any grief for this," Payne said in a telephone interview Sunday afternoon. "It was a joke.

"Eric is a friend of mine and he was just having fun. He and Chris were happy that Louisville won the game (against UK on Dec. 26). Eric was just teasing me."

The story and video made waves on social media Saturday evening after Drew Franklin of Kentucky Sports Radio posted it on Twitter.

In the 33-second clip, Wood is filmed screaming into the camera. Mack is in the background with his hands on Wood’s shoulders, occasionally yelling. Payne said that the video was shot by Troy Hanke, a Louisville businessman who is a friend of Wood and Payne.

"Hey, hey," Wood shouted. "Kenny Payne won those games."

"Yeah!" Mack shouted. "Yeah!"

"Kenny Payne is gone," Wood said. "You know what Kentucky is minus Kenny Payne? 0-1. 0 and forever."

"What?" Mack yelled. "What?"

"Cal will never, never beat U of L again. NEVER," Wood continued. "Kenny Payne is with the New York Knicks ... U of L vs. UK minus Kenny Payne, 0 and forever."

The video appeared to be taken on the evening of Dec. 26, because an NFL game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins is playing on the television in the background. Those teams played in Las Vegas that night.

Earlier that day, U of L defeated UK, 62-59, at the KFC Yum! Center. It was Mack’s first victory in three tries against Calipari and Kentucky. Calipari’s record against U of L as the UK coach is 11-3.

Payne said that he and Wood have become friends and golfing partners over the past five years. They're both former Cardinal athletes. Payne played basketball from 1985-89 while Wood played center for the football team from 2005-08, before joining the Buffalo Bills. Payne said that he did not remember if Wood sent him the video that night or the next day.

"I didn’t even look at it all for a few days," Payne said.

Payne said that he did not share the video with Kentucky Sports Radio and was not certain how they obtained it.

"I have no idea (how it became public)," Payne said. "It was obviously done as a joke. You’d have to be blind not to realize that.

"Kentucky basketball is the most prestigious and successful college basketball program in the country," he added. "I was blessed to be a part of it for a decade. More than that, I was blessed to work for Coach Cal, a Hall of Famer who is a great friend and mentor. In no way would I ever think that Kentucky’s success was because of me.

"It was never about me when I was at Kentucky. I was the one blessed with the opportunity to work with the coaches and the players there. That was just Eric trying to have fun with me."

Payne left UK in August to work for Tom Thibodeau and the New York Knicks, who have become one of the surprise success stories in the NBA this season.

The Knicks finished 21-45 last season, their sixth straight losing season. They’re currently 14-16 this season, on track to make the playoff as the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Four former UK players — Julius Randle, Nerlens Noel, Kevin Knox and rookie Immanuel Quickley — are on the Knicks' roster.

The only ones who look bad from this are Mack and UL. LOL.

Man, that sounds awful. Tinnitus in both ears has to be torture.

My wife says it feels like she's on an airplane and she can't get her ear to pop. There's presssure and she cant relieve it.
Actually gotten used to it since it started so early with me. Just dealing with the hearing issues , and like your wife, the constant pressure, it’s hard. But for me, it is what it is. Hopefully theirs something that can help your wife now, or down the road. Pulling for her man. And you sound like a great husband to her. Guarantee that is worth a fortune to her. My wife is great about dealing with my problems and helping, don’t know where I’d be without her, so y’all hang in there.

I’m not sure if this has already made its rounds, or is just being leaked. Here is a video of drunken Chris Mack and a former UL football player after he finally won his first UK vs UL game to the worst Kentucky team in history...by 3.

If this isn’t example A of what a “Louisville man” is, then I don’t know what is.

The funniest part of that video is that they're listening to Toto while going on that rant. When I here the song Africa I instantly get relaxed! lol

Mack would double down on the stupidity of the situation if he said anything at all to try to defend the video. He should just shut his potato headed pie hole and hope it goes away. He's only going to make it worse for himself.

once we kick that ass in rupp the video will be played so much that every time he closes his eyes the video will play on his chrome dome like a drive in theater.

Mack was hugging all over that screaming dude!
Strange 🤔
Yeah, I was noticing this as well. He looks like a little punk, as someone above said- like a freshman frat boy. He looks like a scared kid who picked a fight with a bigger guy who is hiding behind someone and running his mouth while the other dude does most of the talking. Which one of these guys is the head coach of UL and which one is the little pissant? Hard to tell from this video. What an embarrassment! Wow!

You know what the ultimate payback would be? It's a huge longshot, but if this UK team somehow got into the tournament and went through UofL, KU, UNC and anyone else that pissed us off this year… .can we expand the tournament so we can play 13 games? Haha

Wow....so I downplayed this at first because I give zero effort about a coach drinking and celebrating responsibly.

Hadn't considered the Covid angle. And I'm. It saying that as a coronabro, I couldn't care less about the masks and what not.

My issue is the players they've suspended from soccer and what not, the basketball games they've canceled, and now it comes out their AD was at this party.

Take one side or the other on it. But be consistent. Partying down and then suspending players and canceling games for PC reasons is complete hypocrisy. That is worse than any perceived sleight of Mack towards UK.

Yep, exactly. Its a terrible look. I personally do not give a rip about them having a party or not masking up or celebrating beating us. Every last Cat fan on here would be defending Cal or the players if the roles were reversed. Thats truth and we all know it.

Its the hypocrisy of booting soccer players, canceling basketball games, etc. Just stand up and say eff it and deal with the media fall out. I could at least respect that.

Nah, I don't know. I certainly wouldn't think very highly of Cal if he was acting like a dumbass hype man behind Ryan Lemond, while talking shit about a school that has owned us since the beginning of time. That was such a bad look.

Mack is looking more and more like a clown. UL keeps looking dumber and dumber. He had to call Cal with his tail between his legs and ask for forgiveness. He says Cal gave him some advice he would keep between them. I am guessing it is something like, Don't write checks your ass can't cash. See you next year at Rupp post-apocalypse.

They hate us we hate them who cares what mack says we have beaten them pretty handily always.
Please see it for what it is. No one should explore for explanations. It is a true POS representing a POS University. Way to go go Mack, It’s a Family Tradition. Hate you guys almost as Indiana... Keep on trying though, I think you have a real potential for being a true piece of Sh’t. You’re almost there Buddy.

Ain’t gonna lie, I love seeing this. Just the type of thing that will light a fire under Cal’s ass. If it does, Mack just signed his own death certificate. A motivated Cal is not good for the opposition.

What pisses me off is that I know Cal can coach. Just seems he’s gotten complacent. Hope this flips the switch. I believe it will. JMO. GBB!
I hope so as well!

That isn't germane to the point I made. Its not about whether he looked like a douche, we all agree on that. Tell me with a straight face you didn't enjoy UK Twitter trolling UT this weekend.

When these 2 get together it is cinematic magic as long as the fat kid from Bad Santa doesn't sniff Powder.

And we have reached a point in our culture where the coach not wearing a mask is considered to be the bigger issue than the coach being drunk.

I hope somehow both teams make the NCAA and we get a chance to set things right, by stomping their miserable, third rate ghetto commuter school, lying, cheating, cry baby a$$ into the floorboards. Prove to them once again they are nothing more than our prison bi**h.

Are coaches not allowed to drink(even get totally blasted) at home? He wasn't on the job.

While I agree with you, I'd say there's a difference between a coach being drunk at a private Xmas party celebrating v what we saw here with Sutton sipping on the sideline or Gillispie. Theres being drunk and being A drunk 😅
